"Dam.n," Shaaka muttered as the broken glas.s cut her hands. The blood spattered onto the rotting wood of the windowsill, staining it. The girl hoisted herself up and slid into the abandoned house. It had been closed for months now, ever since the people who lived here had been busted for doing meth. Shaaka took off her backpack and pulled out a roll of gauze and begain wrapping it around her hands to staunch the bleeding. The room was dark and drafty, but that could easily be repaired. All the furniture was still intact, even if it was overthrown. A spider hung from a single thread; she batted it away easily. Shaaka took off her big grey trench-coat and laid it down over the broken glas.s so that none of the pack would get hurt if they came in. "What do you think, Lin?" she called out the window. "Do you think this would make a great meeting place for the pack?"

Kaze was walking around and came across the scent of blood not just any blood his mates blood walking over to the abandoned building a sleeping Kazumi on his back he looked around seeing the broken glas.s he sighed before walking over to Shaaka "are you ok?" He asked her his voice deep with age and wisdom. Taking her hand he took the gauze off and took the glas.s out of her hand before wrapping it up tightly so it would stop the bleeding and wouldnt hurt her. He then walked over cleaning up all the broken glas.s and broke the rest of the window so no one else would hurt themselves and desposed of all the glas.s.

Kaze looked at her "so you think that because i love you and dont want you hurt that im treatign you like a little kid?" he asked her tilting his head.

Kazumi woke up from her brothers back and looked around before nuzzleing her head into his sholder scared not knowing where they where.

Kaze smiled abit a smile only two others have ever seen and they where Shaaka and Kazumi, walking over to Shaaka he hugged her "i cant help it i dont ever wnat you hurt" he said nuzzleing his head into her neck a sigh of affection.

Kazumi looked up seeing Shaaka she smiled she liked Shaaka.

Shaaka grinned as she hugged him back. As she did, her cellphone rang. It was one of the few presents her parents had ever given her on her birthday. Her birthday was one of the few days of the year they were actually sober. "What?" she answered, pulling away from Kaze.

"Where are you now?" Hayato growled. Hayato was Shaaka's twin brother. They weren't very close, but Shaaka actually called him now and again to let him know where she was. Hayato was a falcon-shifter, and wasn't a part of their pack.

"What do you want, Hayato?" Shaaka sighed, closing her eyes.

"I just thought you might want to know that Dad died yesterday."

"And why do I care?"

Hayato swore loudly. Shaaka pulled the phone away from her ear, but she could still hear him shouting over the line. "Because he gave life to both of us, you moron? Because I'm stuck with all the funeral arrangements because you're off roaming the streets with your good-for-nothing boyfriend? Because Mom's actually sober for once and you don't seem to give a dam.n- zzz...zzz...."

Shaaka turned the phone off and chucked it into a nearby dumpster. "And this is why I never go home," she muttered, half to herself.

Kaze looked around "its perfect" he said smiling at her before looking confused" she must be around here somewhere" he said looking around.

Kazumi jumped around on the couch giggleing.
