Drake's horse, dubbed Dusk, was panting by the time Drake managed to push the beast up a rather steep invoicing hill. He could barely see the top of what was supposed to be their cave; dusk had nearly settled and a rough wind had kicked up. Dusk's hooves finally reached steady ground and he tossed his head slightly at the sight of the cave. Drake patted the horse's sweaty neck and urged the wary beast into the cave. He slipped off of the saddle and kept Dusk near the front of the cave, so the horse could get some fresh air. The harsh wind seemed to scare it so Drake didn't bother tying him up. "It's getting rough out there," Drake said with a frown.

Drakine leaned forwards over Oreo's black and white mane as the pinto stallion walked up the hill behind Drake and his steed. Her black eyes narrowed slightly to sheild them from the rough wind that was picking up. She straightened slightly when Oreo reached level ground before dismounting and leading the pinto stallion to the cave entrance. Once inside, she loosed the buckle that held the bit in place. Oreo worked his jaw and let out a shuddering huff in relief. Ground tieing the stallion, she moved to the saddle before loosening the buckles slightly to give Oreo a bit of comfort. The stallion's velvety lips pressed against Drakine's forehead in a kiss before he lowered his head. Drakine smiled slightly before moving over to Drake, hearing his comment. "Might be a storm," Drakine said as she inhaled the scents. "Probably a natural one."

When the horses were safely inside, Drake leaned against the wall ofthe cave and looked around. His haze rested on a dusted pile of old firewood. He blinked and hefted a few pieces before setting them on the ground and glancing back at Drakine. "This is probably here for travelers like us," he said. He sat down next to the unlit blocks, knowing Drakine would light them. He opened his bag to search for a few power bars and he grasped one, frowning when he realized it wasn't food. That frown turned into a grin as he realized it was a deck of cards he held in his hand; they were from his last trip with Storm. He looked up at Drakine with a grin. "You play poker?"

Drakine watched the outside world for a few seconds before turning to Drake who had already set down some firewood for her to light. Moving over to the wood, she held her hand out -- palm up -- over it before a small flame appeared. Quickly, she overturned her hand as she brought her arm back to her side. The small, black flame fell on the wood and caught quickly. The black flames slowly cooling to the orange-yellow of normal fire. At his question, she glanced across the flames to meet his grinning face. Cocking her head to one side, she replied; "Never played."

She wouldnt back down from a challenge; Drake knew that. He pulled out the cards and swiftly counted all fifty-two. After that, he shuffled the cards absentmindedly as he watched Drakine. "I'll teach you five card poker. I believe it'll be the easiest to learn, but we're going to add an extra challenge to the game." Drake flipped five cards over and placed them in front of him. Then he gave Drakine five cards, face up, and set the deck next to him. "Alright. So every hand is valued differently depending on your cards. Pairs of two are the lowest besides having just once high card. Then there are three-of-a-kind which is just three of one number. Four of a kind is,obviously, the same number in one suit. Those should be easy," he said. He pointed to the ace, two, and three, all in clubs that was in his hand. "If I get a four of clubs, that's what we call a straight." He said that while pointing to the other clubs. He went on to explain the workings of high cards, low cards, and flushes. After that, he swept up the cards into his hand and shuffled the deck again. "We'll play one hand, then I'll tell you the twist," he said with a wink as he dealt the cards. Ooc; Have her do well the first hand so she feels confident with 'the twist'? And take to email now? :o

Drakine moved to sit next to Drake, but far enough away so that the cards weren't cramped together. She listened to what he explained, only comprehending atleast half of it. Poker wasn't usually what she played when she played with a deck of cards. It was mostly solitaire and the random bits of card tricks she did to amuse the younger kids at the school. She watched as he shuffled the deck after collecting all the cards. "We'll play one hand, then I'll tell you the twist." He had spoken it with a wink while he delt the cards. She cocked a brow at that as she wondered what the twist would be. OoC:// Sure to the first question. And after he tells her the twist for the second.

Ooc; Okie dokie. xD Bic; Drake swept his cards up in his hand and kept his poker face on as he surveyed the rather crappy assortment of cards. He literally had nothing: two of hearts, king of spades, jack of clubs, seven of diamonds, and six of diamonds. He guessed he would bet his money on getting either the eight of diamonds or the five of diamonds. Though the probability of getting a card like that out of the whole deck was slim, he had nothing else to do. He put down the jack and the two, and withdrew two cards. He frowned only slightly when he saw the cards, left with nothing in his hand. He glanced up at Drakine. "You can throw away up to two cards," he said as he shuffled the deck idly with his hands.

OoC:// Dude, card suits are; Diamonds, Hearts, Spades, and Clubs. Never heard of the Jacks suit. But it is a card name... BiC:// Drakine picked up the five cards in front of her and fanned them out in her left hand as the fingers on her right tapped the floor of the cave. She kept a completely blank face as she serveyed the cards in her hand. She had the ace of clubs, king of clubs, queen of clubs, seven of hearts, and the king of diamonds. In her mind, she reviewed what Drake had told her about the different hands. She would need the Jack and Ten of clubs to have a Royal Flush. Though, she knew that the odds of getting those two cards were slim to none. She put down the seven and the diamond king before drawing two more cards. Fanning those out in her right hand, she gazed at them and cocked her head slightly before placing them with the rest of her hand.

Ooc; LOL I meant jack of clubs. xD That's what I get for watching tv and rping. I'll go fix that. Bic; Drake tried to watch for any flicker of recognition or thoughts in Drakine's eyes, but he found nothing in her clear face. He watched as she withdrew two more cards and still, nothing was shown on her face. They didn't have anything to bet with and he smirked to himself at that thought, pointing to her to lay her cards down. "I got nothing," he said with a frown as she scratched behind his head. "You?"

Drakine cocked her head to the other side, her black eyes still on the cards in her hand. In addition to the clubs, she had added the death card and a lower number spade -- five. In the end, she didn't get what she had hoped for. Though she didn't get her hopes up about the matter anyways. At his gesture, she layed her cards down with the suits facing the ground. They were also overlapping a good deal. She shrugged at his question. "Depends on the definition of 'nothing' since I am still new to this game," she said. Drakine would flip over her cards when Drake showed his.

"Alright," he said as he laid his cards down in front of him. "I have a high card and that's about it," he said as he leaned against his pack, not shivering when the cold floor met his palms. He took his shoes off and put them at the edge of the cave, wanting to warm his cold feet, socks slightly damp from the rain before.

Drakine glanced at Drake's cards for a seconds before flipping over hers. It revealed the three high clubs, the death card, and the five of spades. Her fingernails drummed on the stone floor for a few seconds afterwards. [[ :d Thoughts are fleeing me... ]]

"Not bad," Drake said as he reviewed her cards. He swept up both of their hands into his and added them to the deck, Picking up the deck, he leaned back even farther and cocked one brow as he set his gaze on Drakine. He shuffled as he thought and smiled to himself as he looked at her, letting the silence drag on for a few moments. "Now. Since we don't have anything to bet with, how's about we use our clothes?" he asked with an arch of his brows, a challenge clear in his eyes. He kept on shuffling and hoped she wouldn't manipulate the fire to consume his vulnerable feet.

During the silence after Drake had collected her hand, Drakine had shifted her sitting position so she was sitting indian-style with her elbows on her knees. Though, she had her right hand supporting her head, her palm curved around her jaw. Her black eyes watched the flickering orange flames of the fire before the slight shock of what Drake had asked made her head slip off her hand. Snapping her head so her eyes were focused on Drake, they narrowed slightly at the challange in his blue eyes. "So like strip poker?" she asked.

"That sounds about right," Drake said as he cocked his head slightly, a smile tugging at his lips because he knew she wouldn't back down. He blew the cards from one hand to the other and held out the deck to her, brows arched with her unanswered question. "You scared?" he asked with a grin, but his words were soft. Ooc; Email? o3o

Drakine narrowed her black eyes as her brows furrowed together. She snatched the deck from his hands shuffled it once. "F*ck no," she growled as she dealt out five cards to both Drake and herself.

Drake wanted to grin from ear to ear when he spread out his cards before his eyes, but he had a practiced poker face. He stared at the high straight flush in his hand, starting at ten of clubs and ending with the ace of clubs. He'd use the ace as a high card, of course, and he put his cards facedown on one knee to look at Drakine. He looked at the deck--she was dealer this round, obviously-- and waved it off. Ooc; *pokes above question xD*

OoC:// D: Why didn't I see that after I posted? -headdesk- Anyways, after this post. BiC:// Drakine set the deck down and picked up her cards. One brow cocked upwards and she barely repressed a growl. All crappy cards. Great. Seeing Drake wave off his turn to deposit and draw two, she removed to two lowest cards in her hand before added to more. The ones she added were higher than the two she pulled out. But none the less; crappy.
