Before Pride could think up a convincing lie not to have Sloth trudging around in Linka's backyard, the girl had made her way out the door. He knew she would get bored pretty easily out there and maybe even go home for the best case scenario. Instead of dillydallying on Sloth's idiocy and uselessness any longer, Pride seated himself again. Linka truly didn't seem to have any trouble with Sloth being there, even if she was uninvited. Is there anything selfish about her? he asked himself.
It slipped Pride's mind that Sloth could just as easily accidentally exercise her dark energy on plants the same as she would people. So while she patted and touched almost every figment of plant life in Linka's backyard, Pride simply laced his fingers together, perched his elbows on the table, and let his chin rest on his hands. "She can be quite the handful sometimes, follows me everywhere I go."
He shook his head. "The meal was very generous of you." Generous. He ignored the voice in his head. "I think it's about time I'm--we're on our way though." He ended his sentence with a sort of hesitancy and ended up running his fingers through his silver hair. Pride was battling with his nature, his very core, at that moment. It would just be perfect to invite Linka to his mansion, flash his property, flaunt his valuable belongings in her face. To be proud of what he owned, arrogant to the feelings of others. He hadn't spread his sin around today and it was becoming a bit too much...
"Yes, I think it's about time we go." The words came out of his mouth before he could stop them: "Perhaps tomorrow I can come by and pick up some flowers for my other sisters?"

Another smile appeared on her face and she shrugged. "I'd love to have a little sister. I think it's cute she follows you around," Linka looked out the window to see the leaves of her bushes moving slightly as Sloth made her way around her garden. "Oh it's nothing." And Linka waved away the thank you and standing up out of politeness, she watched him start to leave.
Upon hinting a return, the smile returned to her face and Linka said. "Oh you have more family?" She liked hearing about other people's family. She never had one herself, but learning about other's siblings and parents and cousins always interested her. "That would be wonderful. What are their favourite flowers? I can probably get a bouquet ready for them..." Linka's thoughts went to the flowers and planned out which ones would be ready for picking and which ones had enough for a bouquet.

"That would be wonderful. What are their favourite flowers? I can probably get a bouquet ready for them..." Was she kidding him? Pride could have sworn this human was here just to torment him. So giving, so compassionate, it was driving him mad. Being around someone so virtuous was going to take its toll on him. Really, he should just reach out right now and grasp her hand and watch as all of that tenderness bled away.
Pride shook his head. "I'll have to ask them. Don't trouble yourself," Pride said. Sloth poked her head back in from the back door. She held a weird-looking blue tle="" target="_blank">flower in her hands, or what Pride thought was strange. The man didn't especially like flowers anyway, so what did he know. Sloth certainly fancied it. She tucked the flower under her shirt collar, where the petals poked out to tickle her neck.
Pride almost snorted when she dragged her heels as she walked over to him. True to her nature, Sloth was lethargic, slow, and otherwise useless. She leaned against Pride when she crossed the room over to him and closed her eyes. Now he'd have to carry her home.
"I'll be back tomorrow for the flowers then, Linka," Pride said as he bent down to scoop his sister up. He glanced over at the lily Linka had 'saved' and then looked back at her. "I'll just take the lily home tomorrow too," Pride said and nodded as he started to head for the door.
"Until then."

A smile appeared on her face as she saw the flowers tucked into her shirt. They were one of her favourite flowers and the colour was splendid. "Welcome back," she said softly, smiling to her pleasantly. "It looks like you found a pretty flower! It really matches your pretty eyes."
Linka watched as the small girl shuffled through her home and a look of concern came across Linka's face. "Is she well, August? She seems tired or sick." Linka knew enough about plants to know the basics of herbology, but not enough to give a lasting cure, but enough to abate death or a fever until a true healer came.
August didn't seem too disturbed by her condition, though. So Linka let it slide, though watched her a bit curiously. As he got up to leave, Linka stood as well out of respect and smiled, looking to him and said. "I'll be here tomorrow. I might be in the back so just come in when you arrive." Linka pushed in both chairs and took both plates, placing them gently by the clean water basin to wash later. Before he left, Linka turned around from the counter and said. "Thank you for the company, August. It's not often I have company, but yours was enjoyable." A sheepish smile crossed her lips and her cheeks turned red a little out of embarrassment. She never spoke like that, but it was how she genuinely felt.

Pride heard Linka's departing words but he told himself he hadn't. Stubborn he was, of course, and he refused to accept that his being there tomorrow would only be the start of his visits to Linka's. After getting the flowers, Pride would not trifle with the woman again. "It's not often I have company, but yours was enjoyable." The tops of his ears turned red, or so he thought he felt them, and he could have sworn he frowned at the thought...if it weren't for Sloth proving him otherwise.
One of her fingers prodded his cheek and he tilted his head away from her. About to yell at her for bothering him, he was cut off by her smug grin and her words. "You look really happy, Augie. I can see all your teeth," she said and went to touch his face again. Pride's lips curled when she stroked his teeth.
"Why do I have to be stuck with you?" he muttered and threw her none too gently on his horse.
--
Sloth fell asleep on the ride home, as was to be expected. He liked it that way though, not having to hear her childlike tongue or put up with her nonsense. The slave that met him at the gates took his horse to the stables while Pride carried Sloth bridal style back to their home. As soon as he opened the door, he was greeted with his brother.
"And where have you been, Pride?" Wrath said as he slouched against the door frame. Pride shouldered his way through but his brother was not one to be rid of that easily. "It's not like you to go flower picking with our dear sister Sloth," Wrath said and plucked Sloth's flower from her hands. The girl was undisturbed, too far gone into sleep to realize anything.
"Since when are you one to be nosy? I thought that was my job," Pride replied and made his way up to their rooms. Sloth's bedroom was in the far back, one the entire family had chosen so she might be discouraged to walk across the hall and bother the rest of them. It worked most of the time. He laid her down on her lavender sheets and threw the comforter over her before walking back out of the room and shutting the door.
"Stop bothering me and go make some war happen, Wrath," Pride said and attempted to shoo him away with a wave. Wrath ducked under his hand and teased Pride's face with Sloth's flower. Pride deftly plucked it from his brother's hand and crossed the halls to get to his own room.
"You worry me sometimes, brother," Wrath said before departing.
Pride shook his head and went into his room. The first thing he did was get Sloth's flower some water. The plant was placed into a drinking glass he'd used the night before. He paused before leaving and leaned over to inspect the flower. Pride was confused to find how much the flower had wilted without water, almost too rapidly had it started to deteriorate. "Strange," he murmured, but didn't take it to heart.

Linka watched as her guests left and turned back to her house and closed the door behind her. She cleaned her house once more, placing everything in their respective spots and sighed a little, smiling to herself. She wondered if he really would come back tomorrow, but part of her knew the answer and it caused a warm feeling to bubble inside. Linka blushed slightly and she glanced outside. It was dark, thankfully, so it was time for her to rest. She took one last glance outside her window to the garden, then went to her bed and laid down to sleep.
/~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Linka awoke the next morning and grabbed a metal pan and started a small fire in the hearth. She fetched an egg from the stone chest and cracked it over the pan allowing it to sizzle and cook as she held it over the fire. Once it was ready, she took it off and placed it on the cupboard. Linka pulled the bread and cut it and began to eat the bread and egg.
Once finished, Linka took to the garden and glanced around, her brows furrowed.
The flowers she expected to have bloomed didn't. They didn't look as though they had grown at all. She knelt down by one of her bushes and examined a flower. The conditions were perfect. The temperature was light, the moon was bright, the soil was moist and fertile. Why hadn't they bloomed?
Linka stared, perplexed that they hadn't. What had she done wrong? She certainly followed her normal procedure so they should have bloomed. Linka lost track of everything else as she went about trying to figure out what had happened to her garden.

Pride woke up to Sloth smacking him right in the chest. The man's lids fluttered open as he shoved the girl away from him and sat up. Silver irises were still foggy with sleep and he didn't comprehend at first the two legs that were sticking up in the air off the side of his bed. The toes wiggled and then the skinny calves dropped out of sight. "What do you want, Sloth?" Pride said as he leaned over and peered over his bed. Tears streaked down the blonde girl's face and Pride rolled his eyes as she sobbed quietly.
"That's what you get for waking me up like that. We've been through this a million--"
"It's not that," she wailed and cut him off. Pride huffed out a breath and slid out of bed, then grabbed Sloth's hand and yanked her up to her feet. "My flower," she said, lip quivering as she stared up at him with big doe eyes. So that's what this was about. Pride ran a hand over his face in an attempt to swipe away the rest of his tiredness and led her over to the other side of the bed, where the flower still sat in its drinking glass.
"It's right here." He looked down at her and pointed to the flower. Sloth stood up on her toes and rammed her fingers into his cheek to try and tilt his head.
"But loooooook, Augie. What's wrong with it?"
Pride glanced down at the flower. His brows furrowed as he knelt down next to the nightstand. Despite the action of having it in the water, it still hadn't gotten any better from yesterday. Not worse, no, but if Pride didn't know better, he'd think the flower hadn't even attempted to 'get well.' But Pride did know better. His head snapped back over to Sloth and he felt his stomach churn.
She'd touched this flower. She'd touched all of Linka's flowers too.
---
It hadn't taken Pride long to get his horse saddled again, but it had taken him quite a bit to get Sloth to bug off. She'd caused enough trouble already and he didn't want her messing it up more than she already had. So his stallion now clip-clopped down the cobblestone road to Linka's house, its rider wearing a scowl. Golden coins clinked in a burlap bag, tethered to Pride's belt with a piece of string.
He only hoped the damage wasn't too bad. It was going to be hard to explain to Linka already why the flowers wouldn't grow, and he was sure no amount of gold in the world could make up for what was done to her flowers. "Too damn virtuous," he muttered under his breath and rubbed his temples.
When he reached her house, he rounded the back and unlatched the gate to the fence. It took a bit of carefully stepping around flowers to find Linka, and when he did, he found her kneeling beside some flowers, bewilderment as clear as day on her face. Pride cleared his throat and crouched down beside her. "Something wrong?"

Linka stared at the flowers still as though she hadn't heard August speak. Finally she shook her head a little, still gazing dishearteningly at the flowers and whispered, "I don't know," her hand reached over to a flower that was just inches from blooming, yet seemed to be reluctant to burst open and open its pollen for the insects to collect and to breathe in the sun and air. "I thought they'd bloom. Everything is right. Everything is perfect for the flowers... Some of them grew and some of them didn't." Her gloved hands ran through her hair as she gazed at her garden.
"Maybe it's nothing," Linka finally said dismissively. She pushed herself up and stretched her legs, standing on her toes. "They'll probably bloom later today. What did you come here for again? I've forgotten from yesterday." She dropped down to her feet once again and looked to August. In truth, the fact that her garden hadn't progressed at all disturbed her, though she didn't want it to get in the way of being a good hostess, so she smiled to him convincingly.

I came here to tell you it's my idiotic sister's fault that your flowers don't have any will to grow anymore. Oh, how's that? She's the embodiment of sloth itself. Yes, yes, therefore I would be one of the Sins also...Pride to be exact. Pride kept his thoughts to himself, keeping the imaginary dialogue underneath his tongue for now. "I'm sure they'll bloom soon." He opted to console her instead. It was actually quite worrisome for him, with how smitten she was with these flowers, obsessed even. A weakness, that's what it was. It made her vulnerable.
His silver eyes met hers. "A bouquet for my sisters. Roses would do nicely for them," he said and reached for the coin purse on his belt. He undid the string that tethered the small burlap sack to his belt and held it out to her. No doubt she wouldn't want to take it, with how ridiculous the overpay was. Yet it would make up for the cost of her flowers that would more than likely never bloom, and would die out before opening their petals. Even if he couldn't explain it to her, he could still do something about it.
"Here," he offered. "For my being rude to you yesterday."

((JUST TWO MONTHS LATE. NBD))
"Oh!" Linka gasped. She should have known that's what he was here for! That was the bulk of the discussion from yesterday! Well, the last part of it at least. She silently cursed herself for her forgetfulness and blamed it on being distracted by the flowers' inability to progress to maturity. When he offered the pouch, she stared at it as the colour from her face drained. "N-No, no that's too much, August. Just a gold coin will do, or five silver. Please." There was really nothing she could do with all that money other than be targeted for theft. She liked living the humble life.
Before he could argue, she spun around on her heels and glided over to a toolbox she had hidden along the side of the house. From it, she pulled a pair of metal scissors and made her way over to the thorny bushes. Linka carefully reached in and pulled on a rose and scrutinized it. When she was sure it was healthy enough to be cut, she did so, ensuring she cut far enough into the bushes to cut long stems. Her hands were small and dainty, but still, the many thorns scratched at her skin and some drew a bit of blood, but she showed no signs of pain. Once she had picked twelve of her healthiest roses, Linka stood up, brought the roses with her, and took them inside, beckoning August to follow.
Placing them on the counter, she cut the stems with her knife diagonally and grabbed a white ribbon from the pile that sat on her counter and tied it around the bunch and turned around, holding the bouquet to August.

As suspected, Linka objected to the coins. When she turned around to fetch the roses for him, he frowned and secured the string around the pouch. A sidelong glance at the flowers made him sigh, but he dropped the little burlap coin purse into the pocket of his trousers and knelt down next to the flower bed Linka had been scrutinizing. His fingers flexed as he thought. Perhaps I can undo what that useless girl had done. Make these flowers proud again. He hung his head. Proud and lethargic. Yes, that would work. His inner thoughts were heavy in sarcasm. He didn't dare try to 'fix' the flowers, unsure with how they would react with his tampering. He didn't want to make the situation worse and raise more questions.
Still, he felt obligated to do something in return for the trouble he caused. If it weren't through coin, seeing as Linka would have none of that, it would have to be in some other manor. Up sprung a few possibilities, but his thoughts were diminished once Linka waved for August to follow her back into her small cottage.
He was silent as he watched her tie up the bouquet. When she held the finished living piece of art out to him, his frown deepened into a scowl. "Your hands," he said faintly and reached to touch her knuckles, hesitated, and grasped the flowers instead. Pride knew he was in control of his influence, but he didn't want to take a chance with Linka.
OOc; LOL. Exactly two months. Way to go. xD

A blonde brow arched and she glanced down to her hands and she blinked in surprise. "Oh! I'm sorry you had to see that," she said, hiding her hands as her cheeks turned red and quickly walking to a bucket of water, dipping her hands in it and scrubbing them. When she was done, Linka moved over to a cabinet and pulled out two white bandage wraps and began to wrap them around her hands. "I get scrapes so often I hardly notice it anymore. At least they heal nicely." She said while wrapping up her left hand.
Linka stole a glance to August and felt her cheeks burn more. To be honest, this was the first time a man came back to her house that wasn't a pervert or some one who was delivering a service of some sort. Not to mention he was good-looking and polite when he wasn't an arrogant stiff-neck. A smile slipped across her face and she returned her attention to the wrapping and realized she was doing it too tightly. With a giggle, she quickly unwound it. "Wow. I'm..." She didn't know how to finish that sentence without hinting at what she was thinking about, or that she was focused on anything other than her wounds, so she left the sentence hanging.

Was she honestly apologizing for getting herself hurt? Pride followed her with his eyes as she went to wash her hands in a bucket. While her back was turned to him, he was able to look up and think about what he was going to do from here. The bouquet she'd given him probably wouldn't even make it to his sisters. Envy would wilt the petals at first glance, though maybe Lust would find some use in them...Pride knew one thing, however, and that was to keep Sloth as far away from the little red treasures as was possible.
When he was brought back down to earth with Linka's giggle, he was pleasantly surprised and perplexed at the same time. Turning his attention on her again, he found her cheeks rosy and demeanor a little flustered. "Wow. I'm..." He waited for her to finish, and when she didn't, he raised his brows in question. He dropped his gaze to her hands where she'd started to unwind the bandages and start to wrap them again. Honestly, could she be any more helpless?
"Let me see," he sighed. He took in a slightly deeper breath than norm, making sure he'd bottled up any sort of influence he had in his own body, and slid his fingers underneath her own. With nimble grace, he plucked the bandages from her other hand and started to tenderly wrap the one she'd attempted to bandage up. He finished rather quickly and once done, he let her hand linger in his for a moment too long. A sidelong cough and he stepped back, dropping her arm.
"Are you positive about the money? Honestly, it's no trouble and I insist," he said.

Linka smiled more as he wrapped up her hand. She felt a strange sensation rise from the contact of his touch, though she tried to brush it aside, it remained there as her gaze flickered up to his face. Instead of trying to fight it, she succumbed to it and enjoyed the feeling while it lasted. It was the first time in a long, long while some one offered to take care of her. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes to her. When he was finished, she flexed her fingers and twisted her wrist around to make sure she could still move her hands. At last she was content with her testing and she looked up to August again and frowned slightly at the mention of paying more money. "August. What would I do with it? I'm a humble gardener in a small town. I'd end up being stolen from if anything," Linka smiled and reached over, her hand touching his. The contact brought another strange sensation through her fingertips, but she pushed it aside, though her blood pumped and flocked to her cheeks again. "Thank you, I appreciate your generosity, but I live by small means and enjoy it." Linka let go of his hand and looked to the flowers and shifted uneasily. "Perhaps you should take those to your sisters, then? I suppose you do have more things to do than hang around here." Her voice held a lot of reluctance in speaking those words. Linka's body language also gave off a lot of hints that she wished he didn't have a whole lot to do.

The unsettling thought of anyone stealing from Linka, well, it unsettled him. Pride's lips turned down but the muscles twitched upwards again when he felt Linka's hands reaching for his own. He was so, so careful right now, not wanting to taint the poor woman at all. Like she'd said, she was a humble gardener, and although probably too 'humble' for her own good, ruining that just seemed...sinful. And he, Pride of all creatures didn't want to carry out the duties he had since his creation. It was ironic in a way, one that just left him perplexed and a bit frustrated.
"Perhaps you should take those to your sisters, then? I suppose you do have more things to do than hang around here." The hesitancy at the end of her statement, as if she really didn't want to say them only frustrated him more. He was Pride, one that was always one step ahead, superior, and most of the time arrogant. But instead he stood there, stupidly trying to figure out why the human was acting as she was.
A grin curved at his lips. "Would you rather I stay?" he said. Looking toward her counter, he knew he'd find just what he needed: a flower vase. Once picking up an empty one, he filled it with water and set the bouquet of roses in it. "How about we walk around town for a bit?" he said and folded his hands behind his back. As much as he liked the feel of Linka's hands in his own, he wasn't going to take any chances with turning his new found...friend, into someone like himself.
Huh. Now there's something he didn't think every day.

Her ex pression softened from a stony ex pression to hide her emotion, to a lopsided smile with a bit of coyness. So he could pick up on her hints. Not that they were subtle, but then again, other men never picked up on her more-than-blunt ways of telling them 'No, I don't want to go to your house and do God knows what with you. I think you smell like fish and you have hair in unexpected places'.
As he filled a vase with water and placed the bouquet in them, she nodded, relieved at his willingness to humour her some more. It made her feel a little more important, like less of a nobody and more of a person. "I would enjoy a walk very much," Linka said while nodding. She walked outside and began to dig through her many questions she wanted to ask him and decided upon his family. "How many siblings do you have, exactly?" Linka queried as she walked down he road leading from her house.
The day was perfect for walking with the faintest of breeze breathing from the west. It brought with it a coolness that brought down the general temperature of the world around. A few clouds dotted the sky, but they brought no foreboding of the elements.

"How many siblings do you have, exactly?" This was one of those topics that Pride would have loved to avoid. Some smart man had once said never to lie because then you needn't remember anything. It's not like he couldn't answer Linka, though, so he decided to stick with the truth, an easy simple truth. He was glad then, that Sloth wasn't there with him, as she'd love to answer these no-brainer questions and spill out more than she should.
"Three sisters and three brothers," Pride said and scratched at his elbow. It was quiet walking down her road until they reached the cobblestone main road that went through the town. Wagons pulled by horses rolled on by; one in particular caught Pride's eye. It was the old man that had told him where Linka's residence was. By the look on his face and the way he growled at other people to get out of his way, Pride could tell his influence was still heavy on the man.
He dropped his gaze. "And how about you? Any siblings, family, suitors?" He bit his tongue and blinked his silver eyes. Suitors? Did he honestly just ask that? Not knowing what had come over him, he could only look bewildered at anywhere but Linka. It's not like he could take back what he'd said, but then again, if he could he probably wouldn't. Now he was interested.

She watched his reaction to her question with a certain attentiveness. He didn't seem to like the topic of his siblings. Maybe it was family in general? Linka took note to avoid asking him about such things in the future. When asked about her family, her gaze dropped down and she smiled a little too faintly. "I'm an only child of a broken home. My mother died giving birth to me. My father... I don't know who he is. My aunt, who raised me, told me he was a soldier than passed by and bedded with my mother, then marched on the next day."
Linka didn't have to think about his last question. Her smile became a little more clearer and she lifted her gaze to the road ahead. "No suitors," she said confidently. Linka was never the one for romance or that sort of stuff. She never met anyone she wanted to explore that part of life with. Her thoughts flickered to August at that moment, but she pushed them aside quickly. "I've been to many villages with either old men or little boys. I think you are the first man I've seen around my age for several years." Her blue gaze slid up to his face as saw him attempting to look away from her. Linka's mind analyzed the question, and instantly her cheeks turned a light pink. Her gaze darted ahead and her chin lifted a bit as her lips pressed together to conceal a smile.
After regaining her composure, she decided it would be fun to turn the tables back on him. "I suppose you get many women crooning for your attention?" She asked. It was a bit of a game to her now. Linka wanted to see what she could find out about him and see if she could make his cheeks turn like hers.

Ooc; Whit, I've been meaning to ask this. What's the 75/90 in your sig?
Bic;
For a minute, Pride pitied Linka. He would have dwelled longer on the information if he hadn't reminded himself that without the past Linka had, she wouldn't be the person she is today. Still, her little story sort of reflected himself. With the inability to produce offspring, Pride's family were notorious for dabbling in the gritty side of romance. It had been a running bet for some time between himself and Wrath with who could court the most ladies...
He withheld this information of course. It wasn't that he was ashamed, no. He just...didn't want Linka to think so lowly of him. And what's her impressions to you? He shrugged away the thought. His attention turned attentive when she told him about her lack of suitors. The answer both surprised and didn't surprise Pride. It was true that there weren't many men of Linka's age in the town, most of them in their forties and up. As much as Pride believed he was the best, the less competition of healthy young males in the area, the better. Which is why they owned a mansion near the town.
"I suppose you get many women crooning for your attention?"
"I suppose you could say that," Pride replied with and gave a half-smile to Linka. "The women I tend to attract aren't too pleased with my personality, as they are with my looks," he admitted and restrained from smiling. "So nothing serious," he said.

((It's the number of CS eggs I have. I want to get 90 so I can spend a whole month hatching nothing but CS eggs. Lol. I'm hoping before the new year I can do that but I also want more variety...))
Linka was surprised at first to his confession of women not liking his personality, then recalled the scene from the other day and her surprise left her. "Ah, I can understand their position," she said wisely with a faint smile. It vanished though as she thought more upon it and she added. "They must not have hung around to dig deeper. You seem like a decent gentleman to me." Maybe it was the way she reacted to him yesterday that made him calm down a bit. She didn't fancy herself with a commanding personality, Linka would prefer people to be who they were. Although August's personality probably would need to be toned down a bit if she were to tolerate his company. Not that he showed to be having a problem with it now.
Linka's attention was drawn back to the road and she let out a small gasp. "Oh! This is the place I love to visit," she said while the road turned from cobblestone to a smoothed stone walkway. Surrounding the pathway were bushes of various flowers and beyond them were raspberry and blueberry shrubs. "I'm jealous of whomever planted these. They're so beautiful." She spoke with a dreamy tone. The place was gorgeous. It was like a park. Grass on all sides and a handsome gazebo stood in the centre of it all, every road that lead from the outside of the park guided straight to the gazebo and circled it. There was a single, small pond on the right side of where they stood. Fish had once inhabited it, but the hungry went and took the fish at some point and made a meal of them.
