[[If they don't reply by the end of today, I'm dropping everybody rmails [not you of course]. I rmailed Shadowolf, but I don't think she read the message yet. o_o']]
Bhreac perked her ears. She smelled wolves from her pack up ahead. She turned, then after a few minutes, she stopped. She sniffed the air again. Scents of wolves, droppings, deer...Deer! She thought happily, Maybe I can help them bring down a deer. She crawled into a bush, and watched as she saw the last of the deer's tails vanish. She continued to watch, as she then saw two wolves chasing behind. After they had vanished, she sprang out of the bush and followed behind them.

OOC: If you need a brief summary for the Baltic pack, Guiven, just ask :3 I see the time of day has changed. ;o I believe it's safe to assume, then, that they've been tracking the deer for a whole afternoon? That's pretty realistic. And just a quick question... Would it be acceptable if Osera and Kaloqis were to have a litter? xDDD I know only the alphas tend to mate, but I guess it could count as forbidden love? ... Ah, I'm so bored I'm just going to design a Vermont wolf character xD I could use it later on if very few people end up roleplaying with us, but if it's not needed, it won't be used.
Kaloqis heard the rustling of the shrub, then the faint crackling of Bhreac tearing through dulled grass. He didn't need to look long to know it was her.
The country all around him had grown sullen, with clouds rolling across the sunset that blazed like a faraway forest fire on the horizon, lining the grey smears with biting white. The deer were harder to see now amidst the earthy palette before Kaloqis and Osera. The strength of their fear never faltered, however. Tiredness made their gaits less springy, more wearisome, and especially in the case of the pregnant does, intensely strenuous.
Slowly they ground to a stop to encircle Bhreac and greet her, but the white wolf's eyes still glittered hungrily, and her tongue hung out the side of her mouth, slimy on her black jowls. She'd been eyeing the younger buck for the entire chase. Always sped up after him, trying to slice him away from the rest of his harem.
Confident they wouldn't lose the deer, both wolves bode their welcomes by nuzzling the leader's throat and face. Partly because they were genuinely grateful for her arrival. Partly because they were antsy she'd make a comment on their five-day absences away from the rest of the pack. This was the first time in days they'd seen Bhreac, but had still kept in touch by howling occasionally.
Occasionally.
"It's good to see you again, Bhreac," he said cheerfully. "We've been trailing that herd since sunhigh. Osera's made a couple of advances on the youngest buck, but he was too fit at first to approach safely enough. Now, however, they are all feeling worse for wear." He stopped nuzzling and stood back a few pawsteps, respectfully opening up some space for her. "But you may make the decision, Bhreac."
Osera glanced at him momentarily then looked back to their alpha, seeing the sense in Kaloqis' attempt for her appeal.

[[Urrgh. Thunder and cracks of lightning at my house. Hopefully it won't delete my post...]]
Bhreac smiled at the fact that she'd caught up and managed to see Osera and Kalquois. She missed them, for every pack is weaker with fewer wolves, and Osera and Kalquois were two of Baltic Pack's most valuble members. After all, her pack was bigger than Vermont Pack, but not by much. She dismissed their abscense by simply not asking. Replying to Kalquois, she barked, " I say we might as well continue to give chase. It's dark now, they'll be worn out. One will start to trail behind, then we can easily attack it, while one could continue to give chase to the others, for they'll keep running, and eventually we could possibly get two." She thought about her words, but, she added, "I can't be sure on everything, but I have a good feeling that this is the time." [[Oh, and I give you permission for Osera and Kalquois to have a litter. I might also make a character too, because I think shadowolf isn't going to post anytime soon. o_o' That means we lost two wolves. And I'm not sure about Feyth. I'll give her another rmail. As for Guiven, I think she's going to make her post soon, so I'm not going to worry. :o]]

OOC: I love storms :D Thanks ^^ It's a bit sad, but I've always wanted to write about a developing family. About the parents and their offspring, right from birth until they reach adulthood or something. The roleplays I joined never lasted that long though xD Still editing my post..
"In the dark, they'll not see us coming very well," Osera said, agreeing.
Kaloqis' eyes shone. Everything was flowing into place, like a pool filling itself up again after a dry summer. Osera was only a few days pregnant, although her body was devoid of the evidence as of yet. But his mate would be getting needier for food, and the surplus killing Bhreac ordered would fulfil that requirement perfectly. Thinking about it, perhaps it was too soon to be killing excessively. But surely, there wasn't any harm in letting Osera gorge herself earlier on. Was there?
And yet, whether the alpha had suspected they would become parents in two moons was something that intrigued Kaloqis. In time, Bhreac would smell the change in Osera, as well as noticing her belly bulging and her appetite deepening. She would begin to hover around the nest she was born in. Obsess herself with denning. Eventually, they would have to tell Bhreac. And hope she wouldn't banish them both.
"Then let's finish the hunt," he said. "I'll help you with the buck-"
"Yes, and-"
"- and then I'll continue after the herd, once I've eaten my share."
Osera whirled on him, eyes wide as the sun.
"I'd like to volunteer to track the herd, Bhreac. Osera can stay with you." She'd be safer with the family, and she can have the security with Bhreac to think about where to give birth. "And I can go over the Vermont border. At sunhigh we caught a lone male, a black wolf, with a deer carcass. Too close than I'd like." Another reminder of the disorder that exists between us.

OOC: Sure I have the time :D So far, Sek (of the Vermont pack) stumbled across a deer carcass just within the Baltic pack territory. Osera and Kaloqis, a pair of Baltic wolves, strolled up to him and basically told him off for it, but let him go home unscathed. These two then decided to follow a herd of white-tailed deer and bring down a buck for Bhreac (their alpha), which took up the entire afternoon - because they'd been away from the pack for five days, they thought a good way to apologise for it would be by getting food for the family. Plus they're kinda peckish themselves xD Bhreac meanwhile had been tracking Kaloqis and Osera on their journey. The three have since been reunited, and are plotting their hunt and what to do afterward. Oh, and just so things are clear for you, Osera is pregnant with Kaloqis' pups xD They're pretty uncertain whether to tell Bhreac or not, out of fear she'll evict Osera, and since she's only two or so days in gestation, it's not that obvious she's preggers. ... I don't know if that counts as a summary, since they're meant to be concise, but this is what's happened so far xD

((Thank you, the detail helps quite a bit :D Right now I'm not quite sure what to do with Listhia, but I'll try to include her in soon.))
Kyric darted out from where he was hiding. He slipped quietly across the ground, tracking Sek and the fallen deer. The brush with the two Baltic wolves had set him on edge. Even though Sek had been over the border, the two wolves had let him pass too easily, at least that's not what Kyric would have done. Besides, where were the rest of the Baltic wolves? Why were Osera and Kaloqis on their own anyways? Kyric shook his dark furred head as these questions raced through his head. For now he needed to focus on tracking Sek and the deer. He should probably help his packmate with the load, but he'd let the other wolf get further ahead than intended.
Kyric sped up, nose held high to catch the sweet scents of Sek and the deer. Soon Kyric came across a pile of scratched up earth. That was strange. He dipped his head and discovered the fresh scent of coyote. Great. It was probably a female looking for a suitable place to den. The scent made his pelt bristle. As a pup, when he was learning to hunt, Kyric had wandered away from his mother, only to be chased back by a coyote. Luckily she had been much closer than he had thought, but it had scared him terribly. Right now every single part of him was urging him to continue after Sek, his muscles itched to be gone, his brain told him to flee. But Kyric knew better. He stuck his nose to the ground, and began to follow the coyote's scent. He hoped this wasn't a mistake.
((I'm figuring that following the coyote will take up Kyric's afternoon.))

[[Going to fit my post in now before I have to get off. I probably won't be on until late. D:]]
Bhreac could tell that Osera and Kalquois had something to hide. But, she had no proof to acuse them of something. She simply nodded. "Vermont wolves are probably starving that they'll risk going over the border. I noticed the scent too. Even though the scent was stale, it reeked of maggots and decay." She watched as the herd paused and looked at the wolves. "If I catch someone from Vermont Pack on our border, I'll give themsomething they won't forget." The herd continued to stare at the wolves. "Odd. Let's go." With a fluent motion, her lithe body sprinted towards the herd, now beginning to scatter. She lunged forward at the buck, but she had been to early. The buck tossed his head and kicked his back legs out, knocking Bhreac over on impact. The buck simply snorted before running off.
Sek stopped and sniffed the air. He smelled fresh prey, but not on his pack's side of the border. He sighed, and continued to drag the load back to camp. A lump of fur blocked his path. He dropped the carcass and sniffed at it. It wasn't a lump of fur, but a baby coyote. It looked squished. He tillted his head in confusion. The pup whimpered, as it tried to move out of the pool of blood it had made. He stiffened. He wanted to get out of here fast. If the mother saw him with her offspring, he would never be able to tell Alara about it. He picked up the carcass and dragged it on,.

As habit had caused them to do, they allowed Bhreac to take off after the buck before either of them. His herd dispersed across the meadow like sparrows - crossing one another's paths, bouncing in their flight. Eyes stretched wide until the whites of their eyes, like sickle moons, hugged the beady black in a tight sliver. Their snowy tails were like targets to Kaloqis - shivering strips of feathery snow. The buck hit Bhreac viciously with an improvised kick, knocking her cleanly over in a heavy roll.
"Bhreac!" Osera cried. She started swerving towards the fallen alpha.
"No!" Kaloqis broke out. "Go after the buck. The buck, now!"
Osera glanced to her side for a moment as she passed Bhreac, then continued on her course. Reluctance was heavy in her paws. And she was not alone. Kaloqis was desperate to hang back and comprehend Bhreac's health. But even stragglers survived a wolf hunt and he was fiercely determined not to let this one go. He stared at her sadly for a few heartbeats as he passed by, as Osera had, just long enough for her to notice the guilt on his face.
"Stay if you're hurt," he called. "We can bring him down as a pair." Neither he or Osera, he knew, would think any less of her for wanting to recover herself.
The buck had gained some precious ground during his impulsive launch on the alpha, but this space was his own; he was slowly drifting from his harem, which was gathering on the ascension of a slow rise patchy with half-melted snow. They watched, grim and relieved, as Osera pursued their abandoned comrade, legs were stringy with tired muscles. Osera smelled the sweat that marked the exhaustion in his body and made a snap for him. The first dive clattered emptily inches from his shoulder. The second met flesh and she tried to maintain the bite, but he jerked out of her grasp and she slid away. She was not heavy enough to topple him. But her mate was.

Bhreac was winded. She stood up shakily, shaking her fur. It was impossible to breathe in any more than a shallow breath. It was like that for a while, but she finally caught her breath. The front part of her body hurt, as well as her neck. She was glad she wasn't hit in the head, but she was hit square in the chest. She tried stretching and shaking it off many times, but to no avail. She was hurt, but she didn't want to stay here. After taking in a deep breath, she darted off again. She was slower. Alot slower. It was hard to breathe after running awhile, so she'd have to slow down. And when she'd slow down, she'd trail farther and farther behind her packmates. She continued on though, finally catching a scent of them.
[[I'm not sure if wolves can be winded, so if my post is inaccurate, I'll edit. x3]]

((Since I have like no wolves in my pack, can I add some random npcs?))
Where could he be... I thought as I paced the length of my den. Back and forth, back and forth, I went. Sek, Aika, Kyric? Where is everybody. I stopped in my track, hearing a noise near my den. Wandering outside, I heard the pitiful sound of a baby wolf. That's weird, I could've sworn that Issa wasn't due yet... Then I heard screaming, a terrible blood curdling scream. My paws moved me before my mind registered what was happening, someone or something was attacking my best friend. I found Issa in her den, curled up in a little pool of blood with a gash on her side.
"NO!" I shouted and launched myself at her attacker, a large wolf with blood on its claws and an evil glint in its eyes. I latched myself onto his back and he tried to shake me off. I sank my teeth into his throat and felt his life blood pour into my mouth. I tried to think about Issa and her unborn pups instead of the fact that I was making my first real kill of a fellow wolf. It died, but it took me a few moments to realize that I was still hanging onto to his throat. Aika pulled me off of him. I didn't even realize he had come back. "Issa? you okay?" I pushed my nose into her face and heard her breathing. "She needs help now!" I needed someone to come that knew about herbs or Issa would die...

OOC: Feyth, not all packs have to be particularly large so don't worry if you feel like yours is undersized. ^^ Everything significant is on the first post in case you want to check something. Nah, I'm sure wolves can be winded ^^ From ungulates anyway. Deer are a lot stronger than they look; even does can dish out a horrible beating if they're pushed hard enough. It's kinda silly how they're stereotyped as being vulnerable, brittle-legged sacks of meat. :P DEER ARE DANGEROUS.
The bites Osera had inflicted didn't seem to mar the buck's flight at all. But he was growing tired all the time. Kaloqis, casual and intent, cantered closer to the buck's rear. And then he let out another impromptu kick, which cost him his footing.
There was a brief stumble into which Kaloqis intercepted. He lunged and bit into the buck's soft rear so hard his teeth tore right through the flesh and he felt the buck give out an estranged gasp. Like a toothed anchor he held on, feeling the thuds of the stag's body bouncing in his run, flapping his forepaws pathetically. They were fitted with blunt tools only good for making holes and scratching flea bites, so he couldn't use them to help him in this struggle. At all.
The effect of his attack was almost instant, seeping through his muscle, his skin, down to his hooves, right up to his brain. The buck slowed. Slowed. Kaloqis dropped away and declined into a triumphant stop, his mouth broken with a red smile.
He called to Osera and she joined his side. She seemed confused.
"Why did you go for its bottom?" she piped with her head to one side. "I thought you wanted to kill it."
"That's where the softest flesh is," Kaloqis answered gently. "His heart will beat the blood out of the wound I made much easier than if I had gone for his stomach or his shoulder. Remember, the quickest way to bring down an animal of that size is to bite for his most vulnerable parts and make him bleed to death. Look."
The buck had stopped running, and was instead staggering away with his tail covering a sheet of red that was beginning to creep down his legs. Scarlet roots of an unwanted weed. He was losing blood. He stopped again, lowered his head piteously.
"Just wait, my dear," Kaloqis murmured softly. "There's nothing else we need to do." He looked behind him. Bhreac was nearby, intact, but pained, it seemed. He began to wag his tail but he daren't approach her. He brought the stag down. He would guard it. So Osera ran towards her alpha instead, grinning, her ears forward and her tail wagging.
"Kaloqis got it!" she shrieked.

((LOL, your siggy Wolfeira. It makes me crack up when they all jump down, they look sort of like they're flying!)) Kyric paused, lowering his head and lifting a tentative paw. He kept his ears rammed forward and his eyes fixed on the coyote. It was a young female, and she didn't seem to be aware of Kyric hidden in the soft brush behind her, the foliage concealing his dark pelt. Her scent made Kyric's nose wrinkle. Was she sick? She had her back to him, and as far as he could smell, she was eating something, although what exactly, he wasn't sure.
Kyric crept forward a couple of steps, his little paws barely brushing the leaf litter on the forest floor. A growl arose in his throat, and although it was soft, the coyote's head whipped around, her sharp yellow eyes fixed on him. In the late sunlight, her eyes shone with a hard gleam. Tracking her had taken Kyric longer than expected, but now that he was here, he was determined to see her off. Her watched with interest as her ears went back and her lips curled up in a snarl. That was somewhat odd, even though he was small for most wolves his age, he wasn't tiny, and he would expect the coyote to be even just a little frightened by him.
Kyric resisted the urge to shy away--the only scenario in which he would. Coyotes. There was just something about them.
He didn't growl again, he didn't give any warning except for the slight tensing of his muscles, but now Kyric leaped, knocking hard into the female coyote. He heard her breath leave in a soft whoosh, but then he sprang away, feeling her claws digging into his shoulder, leaving thin parallel lines of red. They weren't deep, and Kyric barely felt them.
Then Kyric noticed something. There were little flacks of foam around the coyote's mouth. Perhaps she had been out running, chasing prey maybe?. There was a glazed look to her eyes. Kyric had knowledge of the mouth-foam disease that killed animals, but this wasn't it. When he had crashed into the other canine, she had felt extremely warm. Was it possible she was running a fever? And if she was, what was it from?
That's when Kyric whirled around and fled. He needed to tell Alara about this. This wasn't something he could handle on his own.
((I'm figuring the coyote just has a random disease, I'm not trying to drag the plot anywhere or anything xD ))
