"Oh no. Jake wanted you to beat him. He's tired of looking..... so..... perfect. If your at the top, how do you learn anymore? He's been here for years, and he hasn't learned anything. He could be soooo much better now if the instructors made it hard for him. Whenever he asks questions, they just look at him. But you will have it better. Now they will try to make it hard for you, to get Jake back on top. But he doesn't want that." Lucy said. She was slightly crying.

Kris's eyes glimmered. How can people be so horrible? Was there some law that says techers have to be mean? "How could anyone be so horrible?" she asked quietly, parents aside. This was complete madness.

"Well, take a look at any 17 year old kid going for the olympics. Do you think their parents really care if they are happy? And money greeds people. Sure, all Jake wants out of life is sailing, but my parents, they wouldn't even let him go to the prom here!" She said. "Me either. Thats why we are always together. We aren't aloud to have friends. They think that friends will drive away from the gold medals."

"How did you figure all that out?" Lucy asked. "I never thought of that before. But then again, maybe Jake does know whatever is going on. He is being so quiet lately, even with me. All he does is eat, sleep, get beaten, and sail. Oh, and cry. Thats about it." She said. The thought of that last statement sickened her.

"He probably has," Kris said, hearing the bell for lunch. "Tell you what. Talk to him in the strictest confidence. Try to figure out what's going on." she said, pausing in front of the door. "And thanks for talking to me. I don't know what I'd be doing right ow if you hadn't," and she went out the door. She ran to the dining hall to join her friends.

Lucy sat there for a little, and then smiled. She liked that girl.... she was nice. Maybe, just maybe, Lucy would finally make a friend. Chris and Charlie and Zane were sitting at the same table as in the morning, waiting for the line to dwindle down. "Hey, are you ok?" Chris asked.
