Five trotted out the den, his belly full of goat meat and his face full of content. Sure Nerezz was irritated with him, but that was no reason to be in a bad mood. Nerezz was always mad at something. He was quite certain that the dog Nerezz wanted would be captured soon and his leader would find something else to be angry at, or perhaps he would managed to be in a good mood for a few days. That certainly would be nice. He supposed he should go sniffing around for the target now. No point in wasting time when it could be spent working towards getting Nerezz to smile once in a while.
Nerezz stalked in the den. The dogs in front of him immediately cleared out of his way to avoid being snapped at. He wasn't planning on eating here. He had dogs who would bring food straight to him whenever he wanted, so eating with the lower ranking dogs wasn't necessary. He scanned the area, looking for anything out of the ordinary and saw that there was a dog sitting on the crates that he didn't recognize. They didn't look nervous or scared in any way, so he assumed they were a new recruit some dog dragged in to see him. He jumped onto the crates and approached the newcomer. Many other dogs fell silent and stopped feeding to watch what he did.

The smell of dead goat disappeared as Raeyura exited the den after Five, and to be honest, she kind of missed it; there wasn't much meat to go around, and she'd had her share, but it still didn't fill her ever-hungry belly. She was less careful with her stalking when she wasn't around Navion, because he was the one who always had to keep her from getting too excited and giving away their position. She moved a bit closer to Five than she had with Eight, but still kept to the shadows.
Navion turned his head from his meal when he heard Nerezz enter the den. He nodded his head to him respectfully, out of habit. He watched with interest as Nerezz approached Ambrosia. I hope she gets what she deserves, he thought to himself.
Ambrosia smiled at Nerezz as he came nearer, and greeted him sweetly, "Hey, my name is Ambrosia, but you can call me Brosie if you like." She was playing up her natural charm. She pawed from side to side occasionally, and looked him in the eyes. "I was wanting to ask you if I could join the mafia? I'm sure you'll find me a very valuable asset, and with as great a leader as yourself, the mafia is getting more and more powerful by the day, as I'm sure you've noticed."

Five wandered aimlessly through the territory. He wasn't sure where exactly he should look for this dog. All he knew was the appearance, not how they acted or thought. It was no wonder no one had been able to find him yet. It's hard to find anything you know little about. Like planes. He had heard others talk about them, and once or twice he saw one briefly in the distance, but if someone told him to go find one he wouldn't be able to do much more than wander aimlessly until he found it.
" There isn't any need for all of the flattery pup, " Nerezz said, " How about instead of using fancy words to convince me you show me some skill. Show me what exactly makes you so valuable. " He wasn't going to be swayed by some female's words. Hew was too practical for that sort of thing. He just wanted a dog who could run or fight or had some other use. |

Ambrosia hopped down from the box and stalked outside. She came back with two dead squirrels in her mouth not three minutes later. They had been killed cleanly, with what looked like a single blow to the head. She lay them down in front of Nerezz. "And do I have permission to fight one of your dogs?" she asked.

Nerezz was a little impressed with her quick hunting. It wasn't easy to outsmart the squirrels that managed to make their living in the city. Even humans had a hard time catching them. He looked over the crowd of dogs, trying to figure out who she could fight. He soon decided on a black dog who was relatively low ranked. He recalled his name being something like Navin or Naivon or something like that. It was hard to keep track of the names of dogs you hardly ever speak to. " You can fight him. " Nerezz said, lifting his paw and using to point at the dog he chose.
As Five came to the edge of the mafia's territory, he wondered if he should try looking outside or if he should take a break and nap for a while. If some other dog in the top ten found him napping at this time, he would probably be yelled at for lacking dedication. However, if he found a well hidden place to nap and no one found him then he would be able to nap. It was a difficult choice to make, but eventually he decided on sleeping. He was sure that this search mission could wait until later. He looked around, making sure there weren't any high ranking memebers around, and darted into an abandoned building he often used for nap he wasn't supposed to be having.

Navion lifted his head in shock, which soon changed to a look of malice. Ambrosia's upper lip curled into a smile when she gave Navion a taunting glance. "Certainly." she said, and hopped gracefully down from the pile of boxes. "The terms?" Navion asked, glaring at her and stifling a growl. "First to submit loses. No eye gauging. How's that?" replied Ambrosia. Navion nodded.
The pair circled eachother for a few seconds and then Navion made the first move. He lunged at her, trying to get at her head, but Ambrosia dodged him quickly. He turned his back to get some distance between them for a second, and she nipped his tail, drawing blood. She laughed. Navion swiped her head with his paw, and she snarled. She pounced on top of him and began tearing at his backside. Navion threw her off easily; he was the heavier of the pair. She jumped over his head just as he moved to bite at her neck, and sunk her razor-sharp fangs into his rear. Navion yelped with pain and tried to wriggle free, but her jaw was holding on tight. "Submit!" she muffled through his bloody fur. "No!" he said, clenching his teeth. She bit down harder, and severed a bit of muscle. Navion howled and yelled, "Okay! I submit!"
Ambrosia stalked back to Nerezz, leaving Navion to lick his wounds, some of which were quite deep and bleeding heavily. "Raeyura?" he said, looking around for his companion. He didn't see her anywhere in the den. He cursed under his breath and made to get up, but couldn't find the strength. He tried again, and managed to just get to his feet, and limped out of the den in search of Raeyura.
Raeyura thought Five was acting rather suspiciously, looking around and sneaking into a building, so she followed him in. She watched him from the corner of the room where she was well hidden by the shadows.

Nerezz watched, gradually becoming more pleased with the new comer as the battle went on. It was good that there was another good fighter in the mafia. He had decided to accept her once the battle started, and now the only question was where to rank her. She was too good to be the lowest rank, but she was too new to be a high rank. Maybe he would have apprentice under one of his top ten. She certainly had potential to become part of his top ten if one happened to be caught or killed. After she won the fight she came trotting over to him, leaving the loser to lick his wounds. Many of the dogs in the den were running around and barking, excited by the fight. " Good job girl. I think I can find a place for you, " Nerezz told her, " How about you apprentice under one of my top dogs. Learn the ways of the mafia and all that. "
Five sniffed the air carefully as he entered, dropping his guard once he realized no one else was here. He didn't even notice the dog who followed him in. He cheerfully pounced on a large stained pillow that somehow managed to keep its stuffing despite it being in an abandoned building that was only used by dogs and homeless people. He circled a few times and plopped down, quickly falling asleep.

Ambrosia puffed out her chest proudly. "Of course, Nerezz," she said sweetly, "If there's anything you need, just give me a yell." She had no where else to be so she thought she might as well just stay in the den with Nerezz; Good way to show loyalty, she reckoned. She settled back down on the pile of boxes and rested her head on her paws.
Raeyura cocked her head and looked at Five in confusion. Why was he sleeping? Not two minutes ago he looked as if he were on a mission. Well, there was not much point in staying and watching him nap, so she walked back out of the building. She hesitated before she left, and looked behind her, still puzzled, and shrugged. She paced down the streets and alleyways in search of Navion.

Nerezz watched as the dog beside him laid down on the boxes. " I'll go find your mentor now. " He said, leaping of the of the boxes and leaving the den. The dog he had in mind very rarely went to the den. Generally he was found in the farthest section of mafia territory. It wasn't even connected to the main area. It was almost a separate territory, but it was tied to the mafia because Two controlled it. Two was an intelligent dog who knew how to be a great leader. If he weren't such good friends with Nerezz then he probably would have started a mafia of his own.

Hercules suddenly perked up at the mention of 'pillows' and 'blankets' and 'good nights rest.' he felt a warm sensation inside his chest that he had never felt before, and enjoyed it. "That would be nice." he simply said.

"Come on then.",Shadow replied and began walking towards the building.
Once there she slipped through a crack in the side of the building and went over to a large bed of pillows and blankets that were arranged in a sort of strange nest. "Over there.",she directed and then went over and laid down as she waited on him to catch up.

Hercules limped after Shadow with a bit more enthusiasm. His tongue lolled out of his mouth and his tail wagged, a few things he had not done in what seemed like years. He followed the black wolf dog into the building and almost fell onto the 'nest' of pillows in excitement. He snuggled up and took a sigh of pleasure. "Oh Shadow, thank you thank you thank you! You are my best... And only... Friend. I wish more dogs were like you,"

Shadow laughed and pulled a soft blanket away from the shadows of a wall that was turning into ruble. She then pulled it over him and herself and curled up beside him to protect him in his weaker state. "Your welcome. Thank you,but don't think I'm too kind or you might find out that I'm not.",she replied and closed her eyes,but didn't dare fall asleep.

The moment Nerezz entered Two's land, he could tell something was wrong. Everything around him felt tense, and the streets were completely silent. Taking the hint that he need to hide, Nerezz darted into a nearby building. Inside of it several dogs stood, each staring out of a window or a crack in the wall. He approached one who was watching the road through a window and whispered, " What's going on here? " The dog, jumped slightly, having been so focused on the streets that he hadn't watched his back. Nerezz normally would have critiqued the dog on that, but now wasn't the time. " The catchers came through. Got Scotty and James a few moments ago. " the dog said in a hushed tone, with a small whimper at the end. Nerezz was certain that this dog was friends with the two who were captured. Knowing there was nothing else to do but wait until the all clear was given, he sat down next to the dog and watched the streets with him through the dirty window.
