Arden and Katie went back to the brook, purposely leaving Ariana behind with Calyx. She wouldn't let them practice without cracking some lame, offensive joke about Water-bearers, which would then end up with Arden and Ariana squabbling.
'' You two fight a lot,'' said Katie with a sigh, as she slowly made a wave of water levitate in the air. She started playing with the water, p*censored*ing it like a ball from hand to hand.
Arden shrugged, and said,'' Although she's my best friend, she gets on my nerves at times,''
'' At times?'' giggled Katie.
Arden aimed some water at her, but she deflected it, and it splashed into the stream. He chuckled, and said,'' Okay, a lot. But I can't live without her, I-''
He stopped midway. He pricked his ears, and was certain he heard a noise. He grabbed Katie by the waist, and pulled her behind a tree.
'' What...?'' mumbled Katie against his palm, but he muffled her voice.
'' Look at this, James!'' said a loud, obnoxious voice,'' We've got some Water-bearers here!''
Arden could recognize that voice anywhere. Rephaim, the Fire-bearer that had killed nine Earth-bearers. Rephaim used to be in Arden's form, and was a good-for-nothing loudmouth that displayed his detest for other Bearers without any hesitation.
'' What makes you say so?'' said another voice. Although Arden couldn't recognize it, he *censored*umed it was the guy called James.
'' There's a Water Staff there, you twerp. Plus, I can sniff them. Grab the staff, and follow me.''
Arden cursed, and warily, sneaked a peek. A dark limb snatched his staff and Katie's, and snapped each Staff into half.
They were in a hell-load of trouble.
