It had taken Mark just about forever to walk to the library. On his way he had seen a weird sight- a girl crying on the grass. It was none of his business, though, so he kept walking and tried to ignore her. For some reason, she seemed familiar to him and he thought about her the rest of the way to the library. When he got to his destination, he realized with a start that it was Sunday, and the library was never opened on Sundays.
Slowly he trudged back home, but he stopped when he reached the girl he had seen earlier. Before she was crying, but now she looked like she was about to pass out. Out of curiosity, Mark walked over to where she was.
"Hey, are you okay?"

Hannah was light-headed from all that crying. Still, she scrambled to her feet. She tried to look normal- or as normal as she possibly could in this situation. " I'm fine." She muttered. Her voice was quiet, but that didn't have anything to do with this. Hannah's voice was always quiet. Was her face red? It might be harder to tell, as she had bronze colored skin, but, still, bronze wasn't that dark a color.
She slowly started backing up toward the woods. All she wanted was to be left alone. Her body tensed as she backed up, just in case she needed to run.

Mark laughed humorlessly. "You know, I can never understand girls. You've obviously been crying, I saw it myself, so how are you 'fine'?" He asked her. The teen noticed that she had been backing away, but he didn't follow her in fear that she would run away.

Hannah kept slowly backing up toward the woods. " What is it with boys? They never even try to understand girls! I'm 'fine' as long as you mind your own business." Hannah sneered. "You really don't know how to handle situations like this, do you? Obviously not, from what I just heard." Maybe she should just run. Maybe she was just fast enough that he couldn't catch up with her and bother her more. Then again, he was a boy, so... maybe not... Hannah felt her eyes go to orange and sky blue- fight or flight. Hmmm...

Mark up his hand up. "Look, I'm sorry if I offended you in some way." He said gently. "I was just worried that you were going to kill yourself for some reason." He sighed and added. "But even if you were going to, I'm not really sure what I would do about it." Mark wasn't the best at handling situations, so he said what came to his mind first and hoped it would make her trust him.

Hannah stopped, unsure of what to do next. Should she trust him? Then again, look what had happened the last time she had trusted a boy. Thanks to him, she had lost the power of flight. Oh, no. Her emoitions were biulding up again. She couldn't take it. Hannah raced off as fast as she could back towards the woods, wishing she could fly away.

Mark blinked in surprise, not really knowing what to do. He had never understood girls. Mark shrugged, guessing that she was just having a bad day or something. And anyway, if she did kill herself, it was none of his business. He turned around to walk away, but then looked back into the forest. He turned back and started to follow her. It wouldn't hurt to make sure she was alright.

Hannah's legs were already hurting, her sides were starting to cramp up. But she didn't care. She had to keep going. Never again would she allow herself to get in any kind of relationship with a boy. Her heart would likely collapse under the memories. Hannah wondered though, how much longer could she go on like this, isolated, alone, with nothing but her torturing thoughts to keep her company? ~Wow, some company,~ she thought.
Hannah looked back, and thought she saw the boy- at some distance-behind her. Maybe it was just her imagination. Her mind tormenting her.

Every once in a while, Mark caught sight of the girl between the trees. She was still running, so he started to jog, hoping to catch up. "Hey! Wait up." He called to her as he slowed to a stop. Wow, he was really out of shape, he realized as he leaned against a tree to catch his breath.

Hannah wasn't sure she could run like this much longer. The pain was starting to get to her. It was getting harder to mentally block it out. What would she do when- if- she stopped?
"Hey, wait up!" Oh no. That boy WAS following her! Who cared about the pain!? She poured on the speed, even though she had no idea where she was going. Hannah couldn't let this boy get near her.
((BTW: I got "poured on the speed" from the Maximum Ride books. :D ))

Mark scowled and pushed off the tree to continue to follow her. How the heck could she keep running like that? He didn't know. Maybe she ran like this on a normal occasion. Maybe she was just really fit. It didn't matter, because she was getting out of sight. If he had any hopes of catching up to her, he had to hurry it up. It wasn't as thought he could just turn around and turn back, he had lost the knowledge of where he came from ages ago.

Hannah saw the boy continue pursuing her, a little faster this time. Maybe she should slow down a little bit, give herself a slight break. She was EXHAUSTED. This guy didn't seem to have a chance, anyway. Hannah slowed down from an all-out sprint to a mild dash. Still fast, but better. She could run like this for a while. Her bad memories kept her going.

Ok, enough. This was too much. Hannah collasped where she was, after a few more minutes of energy-draining dashing. She curled up into a ball, and began crying silently again, then stopped. What good would crying do her? The only thing it would do was make her look stupid.
