((I dunno what to post. I love Seth, but now I'm kind of hating Lana. ; o;))
Seth inclined his head toward Krael, his liquid gold eyes unbl[injection]inking. "I think I'll take the back," He shrugged, grinning slightly when Krael called him 'Aussie boy.' "I honestly don't really mind." His bright eyes glowed when he glanced at Lana, and his smile grew broader when he caught her eye. Seth was ecstatic that he was reunited with his sister. Even though she was a juvenile delinquent, he still loved her. Seth was the only person Lana ever showed her soft side to.

((I love Seth too. <3 But eww Svali. I forgot about her. I hate her. This is totally just a suggestion, but... Well let's just say the river rocks are slippery and the water treacherous. Accidents are bound to happen, and we don't know for certain that there aren't other survivors somewhere to make up for the loss of characters if something were to happen. Jussayin'.
Oh, and I feel I should warn you; my role playing skills have deteriorated somewhat in the past few months. Not sure why.))
Krael nodded. "Alright, Aussie boy."
He turned around, silver eyes shining with excitement as he stared a while at the fast moving water he and the others meant to cross. That they would cross.
Krael steeled himself, feeling his heart give a strange little flutter of anticipation. He knew that if he waited too much longer, he would certainly appear frightened (and by extension, weak). So after a few too-short moments of stalling, he finally forced his aching body to stagger forward. He leaped towards the closest rock, which thankfully was not nearly as slippery as he thought.
Krael winced slightly at the discomfort in his bad leg when he landed. Otherwise, everything was going quite smoothly.
Things, as far as he could tell, were going similarly well for everyone else. Lana was fearlessly leaping from rock to rock, with Svali not far behind as she daintily hopped after her. The bottoms of Damien's pant legs, as Krael noted with amusement, were a slightly darker shade than the rest of his pants. This was no doubt a result of the numerous times he had slipped and nearly fallen into the river as he clumsily flung himself onto each rock. Krael himself was next, still clutching his broken wrist close to his chest as he made his way across the river.
Lastly, Krael knew Seth was bringing up the rear, though he did not dare turn to look.
We may just make it after all, Krael thought. He opened his mouth to voice this opinion to his companions, but then thought better of it, knowing his words would only be drowned by the din of the river. Instead he continued on in silence.
~~~
Something occurred to Damien as he once again miscalculated the distance between himself and the next rock, sending his foot plunging into the icy water. He realized the river was rather like a large anaconda, snaking across the land as it hissed angrily to anyone that would listen. Unlike an anaconda, though, the river did not strangle nor constrict the land but rather nourish and support it. Or rather, what was left of it.
"Poor little snake," he muttered happily to himself, despite the chills that he was now experiencing. "Must be confused, he is. I wonder if he minds us trodding all over his back."
((I think poor Damien's a little over-tired x3))
((; o; I luffles Damien too. No wonder Lana's so grumpy and nasty and Damien's so insane. Our charries have only had like, four hours of sleep. :3)) ((*supermegaawesomeglomps Ty and queen* Now we is big happeh family again. :O Or at least, a smallish happeh family. >D))
Seth loped along, easily leaping from boulder to boulder as if he was walking on air. His steady stride was unbroken, but he still let out a quiet sigh of relief when he saw the opposite shore of the river. Grinning jubilantly, Seth let out a shout of victory and charged ahead of everybody. Lana let out a surprised snort when her brother brushed against her as he ran as fast as the wind toward his destination. She couldn't help but smile breathlessly, pausing in her steadfast stride. "I thought you were supposed to have the back," Lana purred silkily, catching up with Seth before he could be the first on the riverbank. "Well, yes," Seth bl[injection]inked sheepishly, smiled widely, and jumped gracefully onto dry ground.
((I love you both. <3))
Krael watched, slightly annoyed, as Seth bounded past him. This prompted him to realize how very much he did not want to be the last one to the river bank. With a sudden burst of speed, Krael leaped ahead and shoved Damien out of the way. Damien promptly fell flat on his face on the (thankfully) large and flat rock he had been standing on.
"W-what?" he spluttered, completely soaked with river water by this point. Damien slowly pushed himself to his feet, wondering why Krael and Seth couldn't just slow down. This is exactly what he himself then did. No longer caring, he slowed to a snail's pace as he lagged behind the others.
"They should be more careful," he said matter-of-factly to himself. "Wouldn't want to make Snakey angry."
Svali had been near the front of the group. But not anymore, she thought, shooting a withering look at Krael as he rushed past her. She turned her head to see that Damien, soaked through and talking to himself, was the only one behind her now.
Idiots, she thought. They shouldn't be in such a rush. There's no need.
Just then, she heard a triumphant shout from Krael as he made it to the shore. He hadn't gotten there first, but it was better than coming last. Svali glared at him as she stepped onto the shore. She walked away wordlessly to sit on a rock and watch the miserable and shivering Damien trying to get to shore. Krael sniggered quietly at him.
Finally, after much cursing and falling, Damien made it as well. He immediately flopped panting onto the ground. When he eventually sat up again, he felt around for the biggest rock (which was more of a pebble) and picked it up, hurling it at the river.
"That's for you, Snakey!" he shouted.
"Snakey?" Lana crossed her arms, a ghost of a smile on her cherry lips. "Are you talking to the river, Damien?" Thrumming laughter escaped from her mouth, and her eyes brightened for the first time that day, other than when she had been reunited with her brother. Then she noticed Krael snickering at Damien, and she felt the overwhelming urge to slap him. "What's your problem?" Lana whirled around and snarled at him, fury in her steely eyes. "You're no help to any of us! What reason would you have to smash Damien down like that? Shall I just toss you in the river, and kick you while you're down? Good riddance, I say, if you went and drowned." The feeling to injure Krael grew even stronger and she was about to kick him in his soft spot when Seth grabbed her from behind and quickly dragged her away. Being her brother, Seth could automatically tell when she was about to beat somebody up, and he usually took precautionary measures to make sure Lana didn't seriously injure someone, or get hurt herself.
((Asdfjkl. I thought I'd replied to this. Sorry >.<))
"Yeah, Snakey." Damien confirmed, confused as to why Lana was laughing. With all eyes on him, though, he felt the need to explain himself. So he added "'Cos he's twisty and he hisses."
At this, Damien flushed pink at how much less eloquent it sounded when he tried to phrase it out loud. Most things sounded at least a little oafish coming from Damien's mouth, though, so he was used to it.
Krael was grinning in silent amusement at Damien, when suddenly he heard Lana shouting. It took him a few moments to realize the shouting was directed at him. Had she really just suggested he go drown in the river? The nerve...
He was perfectly ready to fight Lana when Seth hauled her away. It's for the best, he thought haughtily. Else I mighta killed her.
Svali, on the other hand, was loving Lana for putting Krael in his spot like that. She loved how free Lana always was with her words. It showed that she wasn't afraid. She only wished she herself could be that brave.
Lana struggled out of Seth's grip and spit in Krael's face. Tilting her head, she stared at Damien with inquiring eyes. "The river... hisses?" She smiled widely and began to laugh, chortling at Damien's comparison.
((Omg. Omgomgomg. You know those over the top crazy people who actually built like underground safe houses to prepare for the "apocalypse" in 2012?
What if our charries eventually ran into one of them and like... Yeah. :o))
Krael felt the familiar angry charge to his blood when Lana actually spat at him. That stupid little...
He could take the yelling and the insults, but this...
Krael turned, slowly.
"What's my problem?" He raged in reference to what Lana had said to him a few minutes earlier. "What's yours?! All you do is threaten and insult and b***h. I'm sick of it!"
He stood glaring, fuming, clenching and unclenching the fist of his good hand. His eyes bore into Lana's as he waited for her response.
((OMG YUSH. >:D Lana can meet up with one of them after she runs away. ; o;))
Lana bared her teeth at Krael and tugged her knife from her sleeve. She was about to spit a retort filled to the brim with profanities when something inside her caused her to back off. Narrowing her eyes, she released a heavy breath through her nostrils as they flared dangerously. Something in her eyes changed as she remembered before it had happened, and agony ripped through her ex pression. "My problem started a long time ago, something that you'll never understand." She laughed without humor, a taint of darkness and cruelty in her dry chuckle. "I'm leaving. Don't try and stop me. I can't stand being with this pathetic excuse for a human." Lana grasped her knife tightly and drew back her arm. Seth's eyes widened as she flung the knife deep into the ground, buried up to the hilt, quivering from the shock and force of the blow. His sister stalked off, and all Seth did was stare until she started to grow blurry. Memories attacked Seth as he realized what Lana was talking about. Wincing, he began chasing after her, but Lana was already gone.
((I've been sick. Sorreh. :c And yay you like it xD You wanna play him/her 'cause you have less charries, or shall I? Or NPC?))
Krael snarled at Lana, fully ready for whatever she would do this time. He payed close attention to the way she held the knife in the air, a hanging threat. His eyes followed its razor point with He was so focused on preparing himself to counter whatever move Lana made, that her words caught him off guard. He stared warily as he allowed the words to sink in.
"What the hell is that supposed to-" his frustrated retort was cut off as Lana hurled her knife at the ground, and he flinched hard. Then Lana was off and running, with Seth trailing like a confused pup after her.
Krael was left wondering if that had all really happened. After a moment, he loudly stated something about how glad he was to finally be rid of Lana. Svali shot him a disgusted look but was too tired to argue or scold him, so she stayed quiet.
Damien, who had been quietly shivering as he did his best to ignore the latest bout of arguing that had broken out among the others, was now gazing with concern at the retreating figures of Seth and Lana. Lana, he knew, would be fine on her own. She had proven that she certainly could take care of herself. He worried, though, about Seth.
"... Seth?" he called, gently. "I... I think you should let her be, mate. She'll come back soon."
There was a scared, pleading note in Damien's voice. The explosion had killed every friend he had ever had, and he certainly didn't want to lose any of these new ones now. He knew that there was safety in numbers, so the last thing he wanted was for the already small troupe to split up any further.
((Meybbe some NPC's. ; o;))
Seth swung his head and glared at Krael like a cornered wolf, pacing around restlessly. "That's my sister you're talking about, mate. You want to know why she's become the person she is? Our parents were murdered. Right in front of her. We've been juggling foster home after foster home. The police never found the murderer, even though Lana gave them a complete deion. She'll always remember his face because he threatened to kill her if she told the police what she knew about his appearance. Lana gave her testimony anyways, and has been hiding in a shell because she's terrified the murderer's going to come back and finish what he started. Different people have different ways of coping, and this is hers, Krael." Seth's nostrils flared minutely and he closed his eyes, rubbing his temples. "Bloody hell, Lana," He whispered quietly to himself. "Look what you've gone and done, mate. Wish you'd just come back," His liquid gold eyes snapped open and he stared murderously at nothing in particular, daggers shooting from his eyes. Agitated and irritated, Seth powerfully tugged Lana's knife out of the ground and slipped it into his jeans belt. Seth turned to Damien, doubt in his beautiful amber eyes. "I highly doubt that, mate. Lana's pretty headstrong. Prolly won't come back until we find her, and that might never happen." There was nothing but defeat in his glassy honey irises, and Seth blinked dejectedly. He had given up. After having a difficult little sister that he loved nonetheless to take care of after the horrid murder of their parents, Seth had always been more stressed than he always let on.
---
What am I doing? Lana wondered to herself. The old side of Lana was yelling at the new Lana to turn back. Go back, Old Lana insisted brightly and commanding. Seth will miss you tons, and what about Svali? And Damien? Krael is an ass, of course, but the rest!
((NPCs it is :D))
Damien gaped, shock and sympathy prominent in his already sad eyes. He had guessed that Lana might not have had the greatest life thus far, but he hadn't expected that. "I'm sorry," he muttered lamely, not quite looking Seth in the eye. "That must be... I'm sorry." Svali also had an ex pression of surprised sadness, her mouth open in a little "o". That's so sad, she thought, pity for Seth and Lana welling up inside her. I don't know how I would cope if my- Oh. Because of course, everyone in the group had probably lost their parents. She had been optimistic of finding more survivors at first, but all hope of that was quickly dwindling. She glanced sadly at the 100th charred tree they had passed that hour, blinking back tears at their dismal situation. Svali looked over to Krael when she heard his voice shatter the brief silence. "So?" he said loudly. Damien and Svali had begun to wonder if he knew how to talk any other way. "So what if some guy killed them? It's not like the rest of us haven't lost someone too. Anyway, the two of you have had more time to grieve, to get used to them being gone. We haven't had any time at all because we're too focused on just trying to survive in this hellhole. Get over it." Damien glared at Krael with obvious disgust. Damien wasn't the type to hate someone, but Krael... Krael was proving to be difficult to get along with. That was how Damien tried to think of it. No, he thought. I definitely don't hate him, I just... Oh screw it I do hate him. You don't just say something like that to a poor kid who lost his freaking parents. Plus Krael is creepy as hell. But Svali heard something in Krael's voice when he spoke, something only someone who had spent a great deal of time with him would pick up on. She noticed a deep regret-filled sadness, and she certainly noticed the way his voice caught when he mentioned not having time to grieve. "Krael?" she said. She tried to keep her tone even, like she was just going to ask him some trivial question about the weather forecast, or who starred in that one movie they'd seen together. Then just as she decided how to phrase her next words, Krael was walking off. "I'm... going for a walk." he said quietly but his steps were hurried. He was going in the opposite direction that Lana had headed. "And please, Svali. For the love of God don't follow me." And there was a pain in his voice that made Svali obey.
((WOOOOT SHUGGY'S BAAACK!!! Seeeth.... I love you. ._. Ehehehe my RP skills might be RUSTEH. Where is mah TYYYY?! </3))
"I doubt you watched your parents as they were tortured and bled out to death. I doubt you watched them as their throats were slit." Seth's voice grew quiet and calm as he spoke to Krael's retreating figure. There was a darkness in his eyes that blotted out the sun. Cold, despairing hatred glowed in his usually cheerful eyes. All the humor and lightness had gone from Seth's ex pression.
"Svali," As Seth spoke her name, his furious, fiery gaze softened, and his voice was gentler. It hardened again at his next words. "You can tell Krael when he comes back, he better not show his scrawny face to me. I'm done with that idiot. I can handle insults and pissed off glares, but that was too much."
Seth started following the faint, dusty footprints that were left by his sister. "I'm going to find her. Lana's all that I have left." His liquid gold eyes narrowed. "If you want to follow me, fine. If you'd rather stay behind with that monstrous, pathetic excuse for a human being, no matter."
And then Seth started to run.
---
"Dammit," Lana hissed underneath her breath as she ran a hand through her thick hair. "I'm screwed," There was no water anywhere. No water to be seen anywhere at all. Only burnt tree after burnt tree, dusty rocks and motionless sand. Even the air was still and thick, hanging heavily like a thick, dirty curtain, masking the freedom of wind. The sun beat down mercilessly, not moving an inch, hanging suspended there midair, chasing away the clouds and the rain that would come with them.
A deep, glowing sadness threatened to erupt in her cold, bleak heart. Chilly claws gripped her chest, constricting her movement and breathing. She felt as if she might die. Visions flashed past her gaze, she couldn't separate reality from dream.
Lana was drowning. She had been endlessly treading water her entire life, but now she was tired. She was so tired. She wanted to curl up and sleep for a long, long time. She had managed before, with Seth always at her side and annoyingly happy like a loyal dog. A friendly, loving companion that gave her a kick when she needed one and a hug when she had to cry.
Krael ripped her world apart worse than the 2012 disaster had. Worse than the murders had. Krael was this soul-sucking, life-destroying leech that devoured the shattered remnants of her soul thirstily, like a vampire drinking blood.
Sighing, Lana collapsed onto the ground, dust and sand making her eyes water. A single tear dripped down her nose as her eyes attempted to cleanse themselves of the permanent fog of dirt.
And then total blackness.
