Nanoa grinned, milky eyes focusing on Duskfeather's body. "Healer," she coughed, "You have come to make a trade?"

"Anything," she mewed, "Anything for Duskfeather." 

Nanoa paused. "How about, your life?"

Limefeather's eyes flashed with fear. "Anything."

With a yellow smile, Nanoa barked.

Limefeather toppled over, and Duskfeather stirred. Then the storm broke, and Limefeather's lifeless body was pelted with rain.

Nanoa grinned, "A life to pay for another life is fair, Robinpaw. Aren't you happy now? You're precious mentor is back."

Duskfeather looked around. "Where did StarClan go?" he meowed, "Where is mother?" He looked at Robinpaw and Limefeather, and Nanoa. "What?" he yowled, getting up weakly to nose his sister, "No! No! Bring her back! No!"

Nanoa shook her head, "The deal is done." And then she hobbled back into her cave.

Duskfeather wailed, and laid down next to Robinpaw, shivering.

Limefeather blinked, and looked around. Her pelt shimmered with Starlight, and many great medicine cats greated her warmly. She opened her mouth to speak, but her mother yowled from the back of the crowd, "Welcome home." 

And she was home; this was where she belonged.

Robinpaw laid next to Duskfeather and whimpered. Her throat still burned from wailing so much earlier. She was crying to, but you couldn't tell because of the rain.  

Duskfeather pressed himself against Robinpaw, rain soaking him down to the bone.

Nanoa grinned.

Duskfeather stared at his sister. "If only I hadn't frozen," he murmured sadly, "If only I had moved an inch when she swiped at me..." His heart shattered in his chest.

Wolfpaw paused, letting his mentor walk on ahead. Something was drawing him to the medicine cat's den. A good feeling, a feeling of need...

A feeling like StarClan.

He set Limefeather's body in the middle of the clearing, and curled up next to her, pressing his nose into her cold fur. He ignored the rain.

Wolfpaw was blasted with the smell of herbs when he stepped into the Medicine cat's den. Limefeather stood there, pelt shimmering like the sky. She meowed, "Wolfpaw, you will be the next medicine cat of FoxClan." 

"But I'm only an apprentice," he argued, "I don't know anything."

"Starclan will teach you," she purred, "For they have chosen you." 

He nodded; he couldn't argue with Starclan. 

And then Limefeather disappeared, and he hobbled back into the clearing, and started towards her body. He was in shock.

Robinpaw curled up next to him and laid her tail on his flank trying to comfort him slightly.  

Duskfeather returned the gesture.

Ravenclaw walked out of the warrior's den to see the commotion. He crawled next to his sister, letting out a heartbroken wail. He shoved his nose into her fur and stayed there; he didn't want anyone near him.

Duskfeather couldn't sleep. He couldn't eat, or anything, it felt like. He couldn't live.

Ravenclaw ignored the surge of cats around him. He wanted everyone to go away.

Limefeather stood over Robinpaw, invisible, and purred loudly. She knew only the young she-cat could hear her.

Wolfpaw watched Limefeather through slitted eyes, shifting his gaze from her spirit to her body. She smiled at him, and purred. He ignored her and pressed his nose into her body's fur.

Limefeather leaped onto the highledge, and appeared to all the cats in a flash of lightning. "Cats of FoxClan!" she called, voice booming, "Your new medicine cat shall be Wolfpaw! It is the will of StarClan!"

He flushed, and looked up at her.

"Wolfpaw, do you accept all terms and promise to heal and guide your clan through the toughest of times?"

"I do,"

"Then by the will of StarClan, and all Medicine Cats, I give you your full Medicine Cat name. Wolfpaw, from this moment on, we honour you with the name of Wolfheart. StarClan as a whole shall train you to succeed myself. Go to MoonPool on the halfmoon to complete the ritual."

Wolfheart nodded, disliking his new name very much.

Limefeather disappeared, leaving everyone stunned. Especially her brothers.

Duskfeather looked at Robinpaw in shock. "You talked!" he said in a cracked voice.

Nanoa sat in her den, staring into the fullmoon. "The deal for one shall be taken back, and the deal for one shall be increased." Her voice echoed through the cave eerily.

Wolfheart's heart wrenched, and his eyes flashed a dark blue colour. He felt totally empty. Completely emotionless. He felt robotic.
