Cujo swam over to the bank, popping up in front of Lunus. She stayed in the water, mostly because she didn't want to warm up yet. "Hey there, having fun in your thoughts?" Now she decided to get up, since her tail had since gone numb from the cold water. She shook herself dry, then began grooming one of her paws. |

Piroshki tilted his head, "Now why would they be smiling, young one?" he asked. He could feel their presence, or at least Winter's, but he felt someone else up there too in the heavens. HE could not tell their emotions though. Were they smiling? Were they happy seeing them like this, struggling without them? Piroshki's heart pained at the thought. Was Winter happy without him? He looked at Shadow, and flicked his tail. Shadow needed him... and, he thought, he felt, that he needed her.
Lunus blinked away the water drops form his eyes. He purred, but it was short, and it went away as quickly as it came. He padded over to her and helped Cujo dry out her fur by grooming it. "You seem to enjoy the water," he said, rasping his tongue over her shoulder. His mind was still clouded with thoughts of his fate that was so short in life. He wondered if being dead was really better than being alive. Or was he alive now? Ever since Whitetail, his mother, sent him back to the Earth realm, he could no longer have immunity to pain that is given to him by wall or car collisions. OH, but he still could be dead... could be, and if he was, being near a friend like Cujo is all that he needs to be at least mostly content. He sighed, then rasped his tongue over her other shoulder.

Cujo squirmed through her thoughts, trying to come up with an explanation. Then the serval-istic eyes of her father flashed through her mind like lanterns of green. "Yes... I'd been swimming before I could even walk. My father taught me... In case an escape route was blocked by water, I'd been caught in a flood, or tossed overboard by the wind. He was a smart one, smart enough to teach me the ways of the water before he passed in an... Accident." She shut her eyes, recalling the flash of headlights. She opened her eyes again, but her ears were somewhat pointed backwards. "He passed properly, like my mother, five brothers, and sister. I'm happy for them, getting to a better place, no difficulty. But it is a terrible thing to happen at such a time. My father and mother would not be satisfied that I am in the Mesa. Say they expected more of me." She lowered her eyes back to the river, as if she could see the very bodies of her family flowing through.

Lunus noticed Cujo's far off look. "Having a staring contest with the water, are we? I wonder who hsould win?" he said in a mocking tone. He curled his tail around her's and looked at the water as well. "At least you had a family," he sighed. "I never knew my mother until now. I guess we can both agree that she is ... well... some names that I should not say and are considered extremely disrespectful. Oh well, even then, when she was alive, she was dead to me and I was dead to her. You knew your family and had a caring parent to teach you some things, whereas I had to teach myself how to hunt and survive." His eyes darkened, but when he looked at Cujo they brightened up just a bit. "But... no matter where they are, by the sound of it, I am pretty sure they're proud of you. Pretty sure they still.... er... love... you." He said, still having difficulty believing in love and care and friendship. Yet there he was sitting next to her and encouraging her with words..... Gosh, he would never understand this complicated thing!
Piroshki sighed, "I... had came from a royal bloodline of cats. Before we were handled off to new housefolk... also known as humans... I was the prince in my family. I was expected to do so much. Yet a sickness came over me and I had accepted death without a fight. Who doesn't fight to live? My family made it up there, Winter made it up there... but I did not. I wonder if my brother is laughing at me right now for failing to reach even a whisker i nthe heavens?" He looked at Shadow, and flicked his tial. "I-I'm sorry. You are right. They out to be happy knowing that we had found each other's company. Forgive me for my objections, my young sunflower."

Cujo purred, listening intently while watching the water. "Well, Lunus, sometimes it doesn't matter if you're together or apart... You know, all your family members, not just your mother, are always with you. When you feel the cold winter breeze, or are pushed back by summer winds... You'll feel their presence. You'll never be alone without your mother, or anyone else in your family." She tilted her head to the side, following the current of the water. "I'll be there too, see how good of a job I'm doing? Piroshki laughed, and began pawing at Shadow as well. He tehn scrambled to his paws and crouched down, then sprang upon the she-cat, tumbling heads-over-tails with her on the ground. When they finally settled, with Shadow laying on the ground on her back, Piroshki lingered there for a few moments. He gazed into her eyes, sparkling with passion. Then, he got up and cleared his throat. "Tag..." he said. "You're it." He began dashing off in the opposite direction.

Shadow seemed to be caught looking into Piroshki's eyes as well until he popped up from the ground and she was tagged. She jumped up and ran after him,laughing as she did. "I will get you!",she called,even though he was pretty far ahead. He paws carried her the distance that was between them and her paw touched his back before she shot off in the other direction calling,"Tag!"
