Drakine growled as she flared her wings. "Its not my ego! Its all your damn rules. They are so restricting! I god damn hate it!" she growled as her eyes narrowed dangerously. Black scales covered the rest of her skin; a warning.

"Drakine, please tell me the rules you are referring to? I told you you didn't have to go on the mission. If you want, you can infiltrate the enemy's base camp. All you had to do was ask and by the way, you could have politely said no to my mission." Professor Black pointed out.

Drakine growled softly as she tilted her head to one side. Her anger had quelled slightly as she realized what her Professor was getting at. "Sorry," she said without meaning it. "You know my temper. Always going higher than normal." She gave him a crooked half-smile.

She looked up into his waiting eyes and began. “I was the weird kid when I grew up. My parents knew something was wrong with me, but they couldn’t imagine. I used to tell them fantasies all the time when I was little. How the birds complimented me, how the foxes talked about their days, and how the lizards shared their secrets with me. I told them all about my fantasies. They never believed me. That was, until they saw me talking with a wolf in our backyard.” She smiled at the irony. “Anyway, Toro was his name and he was moving to a pack in the east. This was when I was 11. They had yelled at the wolf, told him to rid himself. My dad, he went back inside and brought out a gun. Shot Toro right through the heart.” A tear appeared on Taylor’s cheek. “My dad then came up to me and asked me what I was doing talking, and stroking that wolf. I told him I was talkin’ to it. My mom, she…she…looked at me like….like I wasn’t her daughter. Like she didn’t know me. My dad told me to stop this witchery. Next thing I know, I’m being shipped to a laboratory in the middle of nowhere. Last thing my parents said to me was “Listen here witch. You do what these scientists tell you. We want answers. If you don’t cooperate with them, they kill you. As long as we get some answers, we don’t care if you come back dead or alive.” Taylor wiped her eyes. “So I went. At first I felt rejected, ashamed of myself because I had not lived up to my parent’s expectations. I then realized it wasn’t my fault. They were evil. That’s what strengthened me. Knowing it wasn’t my fault. So, I became the good little girl. I did all the scientists asked me to do. When they said jump, I said how high. The worst thing was, they tested on me. gave me shots filled with who knows what. There were…side…nevermind about that. Eventually, I escaped. They had left me by myself in the gym and being the stupid scientist they were, they had a gla.ss roof. I don’t know how I willed it to happen, but I changed. Shot straight out of that building as a hawk. When I changed, I fell from the air. They found me, chased me, but I escaped. I never gave up. Then I met Xhao. She had been like me. No trust in herself, so i swore to protect her. I don't want her to become hard like me, but it seems impossible because of what we go through every day. That’s my story."

"I had been in that freakin hel.l of a lab for about two years and you know what it taught me. Enjoy something while you got it, because all good things come to an end. Take what's happened in your life, learn from it, and it will strenghten you. And never, ever, ever dwell on the past."

She looked up at Luke, her tears dry against her cheeks.

Drakine flashed a smile and let her wings melt into her back. "So I've been told. But you now that I hate other kids my age. I'm more comfortable around my Professors. Its weird," she said tilted her head to one side as her tail wrapped around her waist before melting back into her skin. 

Her anger was now completely gone. Drakine bowed low; as was custom in her country. "I am sorry for letting my anger get the best of me, Professor Black," she said, her tone was very sincere. Then her stomach growled loudly and the tip of her ears grew hot with embarrasment. "Excuse me, but I need something to eat."

Straightening her spine, she backed up from Professor Black before turning around and walking to the cafeteria.

"Young Drakine, that is only because you are far more experienced than the other students here at the School. You are comfortable with the professors because you are at their level with controlling your powers. You're not perfect yet, but that is only because you are a child and you still have important decisions to make in you life." Professor Black called after Drakine before she could disappear behind the school walls.

Drakine snorted at what Professor Black had said at the end, but made no protest or retort. What he said was mostly true; she was still a child in her own perspective. She entered the school and stopped, shaking hear head and sighing. 

"But when will they attack, I wonder. Or when will the fighting actually start," Drakine said as she continued to walk forward, but only to run into Taylor.
