Once the woman was gone Jazz knelt down to the door, taking the paperclip out of her pocket. She straightened it out, then slipped it into the key hole. After about a minute the door opened with a soft click. 'New record...' She thought as she stood up. She heard foot steps on the stairs. 'Oh no...' she thought, looking around the room. She saw a closet. 'No... To usual..." She thought franticaly. She saw a chest in the corner of the room. She ran over to it, quickly but quietly. She opened it up. It was the perfect size for a smaller woman like her to fit into. She smiled and slipped into it, closing the lid once in it. She slowed her breathing so that no one could hear her.

The aroma of chicken preceded Amelia up the stairs. When she reached the landing, however, she gave a start that almost made her drop the tray she was carrying. Garrett's door was wide open, revealing the obviously missing girl. Warily setting the tray down on a table in the hall, she moved slowly down the hall, all her senses on alert. There was no way Jazz could have gotten out of the downstairs door. It was in clear view of the kitchen. She had to be up here somewhere. "Jazz..." Amelia called softly as she moved into the room. This level of the house had been set up presisely for Garrett by his father. There were only three rooms, his large bedroom was designed to look like the inside of an Arabian Bedouin tent, with walls draped in bright colors, a depressed circular area filled with pillows and blankets in brilliant purples, reds, golds, and blues, and several large trunks scattered around the walls. This was where Amelia looked first, since the two other doors on the hallway, one which led to the huge bathroom and the other to the library, looked as though they had not been touched. Stepping softly, Amelia cast her eyes around the room in a quick cursory glance. She sniffed carefully. The food smells were interfering, but she was not pack mother for nothing. She had years of experience looking for the trouble-making young boys in the pack. Slowly, she approached one of the trunks. It had formerly held weapons, but Garrett had just recently cleaned it out. Amelia smiled as the scent of the stranger grew stronger before she opened the trunk. "This doesn't look very comfortable," she said to the girl scrunched inside. "I can get you a pillow if you like..."

"That would be nice of you, but I think this is just perfect..." She said, pushing herself out of the trunk in an akward way. She smiled and landed on her feet, looking at the woman. She saw a curious one. She was a round short figure with curly black hair lining her face. Jazz's eyes were filled with sorrow as she looked into the woman's soft blue ones. "I realy didn't want to do this, but you gave me no choice..." She said, comming up behind her. She grabbed her arms and head in a lock so that they couldn't move, and if she decided to, Jazz could break her neck with ease. "I'm so sorry..." She wispered, walking twords the stairs. "If you go with out a sound, I won't hurt you." She told the mother in a wisper.

"Let go of her at once." The command was low and issued with absolute authority. Garrett stood at the door in his combat uniform, his face grim and his posture ramrod straight. He took a step into the room. "I am an Alpha. You will not go against me on this." His eyes were fixed stonily on the girl before him, only noticing Amelia working her hands under the girl's arm out of the corner of his eyes. "I am not sure who you think you are, but in our pack, threatening Amelia is a death sentence. If you hurt her, you will not get away. You will be hunted down and slaughtered like the beast you are." He took another step towards her, just as Amelia managed to get her hands underneath the arm holding her and wrench away, falling to her knees away from her and gasping for breath.

Jazz smiled and let this 'Amelia' fall, not paying much notion to her. "This is my fight, don't you ruin it." She wispered inot Amelia's ear. She stood back up and looked inot the eyes of the man. "So you think, all mightly alpha." She sneered. She knew how this game was played. Two alphas in a fight? Never a good idea. The last time she had been in a fight with another alpha it lasted two days, ending in his death. "Dare to challange me, and it will be your last one. But, if you want to dance, why not?" She said, walking up to him and taking his hand in a gesture to start a dance.

Garrett flung her hand away, his eyes burning. Amelia, having gotten her breath, struggled to her feet and scurried past them at his nod, vacating the room. "I am not and will not fight with you. You are here for a reason. I don't want you here, but I've been given no choice. But you are not expendable. I can replace you. Harm another of my pack and you will feel my wrath." Without taking his eyes from the girl before him, he raised his voice. "Amelia, please call Phillipe and Lucas. Apparently we're going to have to guard the door until I convince father to send the menace home." Amelia appeared just beyond him, rubbing her neck and giving the girl a look of deep, motherly dissapointment mixed with, somehow, sympathy. "Ok, Garrett." The motherly woman left quietly and Garrett began to speak again. "I was willing to see you treated well. No longer. What did she do to you? Offer you a piece of cake?" With a disgusted look, he spun out the door, slamming and locking it behind him, then leaning against it before before sliding to the floor. The door opened outwards, so even if she managed to unlock it, she would not be able to escape. The windows were made of thick, bulletproof glass witnout catches, another one of his father's harebrained ideas. She wouldn't be getting out.

She sighed and slid down the door, shaking her head. "You think I wanted to do that? You think I want to hurt her? She has been more of a mother to me in the past," She said, picking up her watch. "thirty minutes than anyone else has in my whole life." She said, not aware that he was outside of the door. Tears started welding up in her eyes. "He doesn't seem like a bad guy, just misslead..." She said, trying to keep back the tears.

Garrett heard what she said and couldn't believe his ears. So there is a heart in there somewhere.. He stood when he saw Amelia approaching with his two betas. There was a red and purple bruise across her neck, but he recognized the look in her eyes. She was determined to befriend the girl. As Phillipe and Lucas took positions on either side of the door, Garrett led Amelia a little ways away and hugged her tightly. The little woman had mothered and loved all of the young men of the pack and they were as devoted to her as they were their own mothers and grandmothers. "I was scared for you," Garrett said, stepping back and looking down at her. She gave him a smile back. "You're going to try again, aren't you?" Amelia nodded. "She's lost. And lonely. She needs someone to look after her. I'm going to take her the food I made for her, but Lucas can stay with me. Garrett sighed and nodded, hugging the small motherly woman one more time before striding to the door. Amelia fetched the tray and joined him, interrupting his conversation with Lucas, a lean man wearing heavy black glasses. At Garrett's nod, Amelia unlocked the door and stepped in, startling the girl. She hid the nerves and stepped deeper inside the room. Phillipe closed and locked the door behind them. "I've brought you the food I promised."

Jazz got up from her seat on the floor, whiping a tear from her cheek. "Thank you. I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." She said, the tears still in her eyes. She never ment to hurt her. She just wanted to get free. She tried to control it, but another tear ran down her face, dripping onto her lond red dress.

Amelia's heart broke as she watched the girl cry. Jazz was hardly more than a child. With a gesture at Lucas, she rushed forward and wrapped the girl in a hug. "It will be ok, dear. It will. You'll be happy here, if you let yourself. Come now, come." She led the weeping girl over to the small table and chair, pusing her into the seat and removing the lid from the dinner. "Eat up, child! Would you like to be alone? I can stay with you for a little while if you like. I have a bit before I need to go tend to dinner." Her voice was low and soothing as she could make it.

Jazz didn't say anything, just nodded slightly and continued sobbing. The whole world was crashing down on her at the wrong time. She tried to hold it back, but no use came to her efforts. She closed her eyes because there was no use in trying to see. Her vision was compleatly blocked by her tears. "T... Thank... You..." She managed to choke out.

Amelia gave the sobbing girl a smile. "It's ok, sugar. I'll stay with you for a while." She gave Lucas a slight nod and he returned to the door, knocking once before stepping out, giving Amelia a concerned look. Once the door was closed again, Amelia stroked the girl's hair softly, encouraging her to eat the still warm food. "Tell me about yourself," she said, gently.

Jazz thought for a minute about what to say. After that she finaly got the tears to stop and she opened her eyes. "What do you want to know?" She sniffled, whiping the remaining tears off of her face.

Amelia gave her another smile. "Anything, sugar. Tell me about your parents if you want to. Your life. What you like. I'm here to listen." Standing, she moved to the door, where she had also left a bag of bath stuff. After rummaging for a moment, she returned with a hair brush, a couple different colors of bright ribbon and a hair tie. "Would you like me to brush you hair while we talk? I know I always feel better when my hair is straight." She gave Jazz a hopeful smile.

Jazz nodded, tears starting to come to her eyes again at the mention of her parrents. "I never knew my parrents. They died before I remember." She said, a tear running down her cheek. She tried to hold them back, this time sucsessful.

((OMG! I am so sorry! I thought I responded to this!))
Amelia moved behind the girl, rubbing her shoulder in a motherly way before begining to pick the leaves and sticks out. "That must have been very hard. Did your pack not have a mother? We have a couple cubs whose parents have passed on here in our pack, but we all take care of them. They live with me, of course. Tell me more, sug. How did you grow up?"

"I grew up on my own." She said, looking up at the woman. "I had a hard life, but not a terrible one. I grew up all over the place, never setting down anywhere. I did spend most of my time on the forest, alone." She said, looking down at her food. She closed her eyes and shufled through the memories, seeing the trees surrounding her. Seeing the birds she played with in the summer. Seeing the meadow she spent most of her time in. She was content with that memory. No one else but her knew about that place. It was just how she liked it.
