((I've returned. And happy sweet 16, Rika!))
Sesshomaru led Ace to as close to the well as he dared. Strange and demonic things always seemed to happen about it- Kagome and jewel comming through, demons attacking, and now odd hayous with sleeping demon blood. No, it was too much of a bother for Sesshomaru to get involved with, and he walked leisurely back twards his forests and familiar mountian p*censored*es. What the woman did was now none of his consern, and the temporary high from the debate had vanished completely. There was no point in lingering on the past, especially on something as trivial as feelings or emotions. They changed frequently and gave away one's weaknesses. No, it was not worth the trouble.
The trees where still, and they seemed to sigh with releif as their demon lord returned to them, only to hold their breath when the wind changed. The breeze brought him a scent, one he vaugly recconized. It had touched his nose before, but never had Sesshomaru investigate it. He heard the trees whisper something about a fox, but he didn't listen long enough for the language to propperly process, so he ignored it. One way or another he was going to discover what kitzune was in his terratory.
The wind died down, as if affraid to stirr Sesshomaru's silver locks any more. He pricked his ears and listened. For a moment or two he only heard the rustling of leaves as they brushed one another on their branches, the chirp of a small bird as it flew over head and a squirl chattering as it dropped its nut down to the bottom of the tree. He listened more, forcing himself to remain focused on the task at hand. There was a fox somewhere, and though it was probably harmless, it didn't seem completely kitzune.
Sesshomaru came to the conclusion that it was another half- demon, more likely female as it hadn't attacked yet. (Males seemed more rash and quicker to attack than lurk in the shadows.) But time had p*censored*ed and nothing stirred out of the ordinary. A voice, so familiar to Sesshomaru that it prickled his spine, echoed in the back of his head: "Do you have something you wish to protect?" Those words that had been spoken over two hundred years ago, maybe more like three now that he thought about it. Those words that always made the demon lord, so basked in demonic glory, shiver at just the thought. These where the words that made him stumble in battle and made him think when he was alone. The one, simple question had caused Sesshomaru guilt, furry, pain... and love, even if he, Sesshomaru himself, dare not admit it to himself. It was too much to handle, and he knew he would face all the emotions one day, but that was not today.
No. Today he would find a little kitzune, probably with another, full fox. This would explain both why the scent was hard to identify and the remembering of those stupid words. Today, Sesshomaru would remain calm and wise about his surroundings, and he would lock on to what his nose was telling him was there.
Sesshomaru took a few more steps, careful and leasurely. If one where going to attack or say something, now would be the time. Meanwhile, the demon would take the deffence and remain calm and still. Odds where that the fox would show herself to him sooner rather than later, even if it was uninetsional.
