Stepping out of the house, for it was no home to her, Zephyra jogged on the mucky tail that snaked through her forest. It was her forest because she owned around 250 acres behind the modern house she had bought her freshman year. The rain flattened her thick, blonde hair to her skull, drenched her shirt, and created puddles of water for her shoes to splash in. Her mind was still healing from the trauma of losing her family, and her normal life. This new one was too thrilling and addicting for her. The adrenalin rush of shifting will cause me to be reckless. I need to remain strong. But why? For whom do I have to be strong for now? Closing her eyes tightly, Zephyra sped on. She sprinted until her lungs burned, and her throat felt raw. Zephyra held onto the pain, it reminded her of life. Shifting can too, and she pushed the unwanted thought back. “No. I have to stay normal.” But what was normal now? When your reality gets stripped bare because all of those monsters really do live under your bed, what do you consider reality when it’s truly fantasy.
