Jake took in heavy breaths, the scent of blood flaring his nostrils. He felt like he was in trouble for some reason, like something horrible was about to happen. He shook his head, focusing on the teacher, who began rambling. It was like she was speaking another languauge, for he could not focus at all. He twidled his thumbs, and then look down at the markings on his palms for a while. A kid next to him looked to see what he was staring at, and Jake shoved his hands into the pockets of his sweatshirt.

Dusk sighed, listening to the boring teacher speak. Her head whirled, wondering all sorts of things about the new year. She thought about the dances, the proms, the parties.... EVerything was new once again. She tried to calm her excitement, but most people could see the blood racing through her veins as if she expected something amazing to happen. She bit down on her lip, hard, and forced herself to listen to the teacher ramble on.  

Shugo slouched back in his chair and silently groaned. Oh how he hated AP English. He didn't mind the reading but all the writing as-signments killed him. It didn't help that the teachers voice was making his skin crawl either. He began twirling his pencil in his hand, just to have something to do.

After that got boring, he began sketching in his notebook. The teacher had a poster with a rat on it, so he began drawing it. He made its face look more demonic, giving it's teeth sharp points and it's fur a more ragged appearance. Once he had finished the outline, he began absentmindedly shading it. The way he added dark areas as well as light ones made it look ready to jump off the page and bite someone. He smiled as he imagined it going after the teacher. Now that would make this clas-s interesting!

Kris rushed into school, fully aware that she was late. Oh God, Oh God, Oh God! she thought. She quickly gathered her things from her locker, looking out for monitors who were giving out demerits, and slammed it shut.

She ran down the hall, past the flower pot with the insane fake bird feathers, and into her first cl*censored*.

She tried sneaking in quietly, like her vampire skills had taught her to do for so long, but, no cigar.

"Kris, just come on in," the teacher paused to address her in his ramble. Everyone turned around, and she turned bright red. She quickly made her way to her seat, and began taking notes.  

Jake's head snapped up as the new girl walked in. The way she moved.... He knew she was different. She was not human. He looked at her, his eyes wide.

Then the teacher said one word.

"Vampires."

This caught Jake's attention.

He looked at everyone else's papers. Apparently, they were learning about different creatures: werewolves, demons, pixies, centuars, and vampires. They would have to write papers on one.

Vampires.

Jake shook his head, drawing out a shaky breath.

Dusk smiled, happy with the *censored*ignment. She had always been fasicinated with mythical creatures. She heard the boy behind her sound like he was having a heart attack, and turned around. He stared at her, then went back to fiddling with his fingers. She smiled slightly, feeling bad for him.

Kris saw that one guy stare and then snap. She was afraid too. Oh no! Has he discovered me? she thought. This could be a problem. She drew an infinity sign on her note sheet to calm herself. She didn't know why, but it had always calmed her. She played Owl City on her mental iPod as well. 

(Vladimir Tod? hehe. Im on Eleventh Grade Burns. :) That was my inspiration, reading it made me remember here, so I came back. :} ))

Jake saw the other girls ex
pression. He stared at her, his eyes wide. Could she be... no...  he shook his head. There was no way she was another vampire.... Or was there are way? He took in a few more shaky breaths. Then he panicked. His fangs had slided out from his gums. He clenched his jaw, but they wouldn't go back. He looked around nervously, hoping nobody had seen.  

Shugo looked up at the girl who had just walked in. He felt rather sorry for her. No one liked to be stared at on the first day of school. His attention turned back to the teacher once the girl had sat down. At least they weren't learning about a completely dull topic. He took a second to scribble down the list of creatures they could do the report on before returning his attention to his rat drawing. 

He wasn't used to having to sit still so long and he wanted so badly to be out of this clas-s. The only good thing was that he had gym next so he'd be able to move around and burn off all the energy he had. He drummed his fingers impatiently on his desk and stared at the clock, willing it to go faster.

Kris saw the boy's fangs pop out. Well, not his fangs, but the way he tried to hide them. There was another vampire here? Well, that's gonna be tough, she thought. She wrote in her careful handwriting, trying to make it not look like it was from the 15th century, the names of the creatures. She didn't know what she was going to do. Maybe a dragon... 

"I will be giving you each a paper, with your monster on it." The teacher walked around with a basket full of papers. 

Jake gulped. If he got vampire, he would die, right then and there.

Kris could feel the pulse of the person in front of her. it was quite tempting, but no. She wasn't hungry. Wait. We pick by the luck of the draw? What if she got vampire? What would she do then?
