Melanie's mom was crying. As usual. But it was understood, for Melanie was her baby, and now she was going off to Seventh Year. Trying to be comforting, Melanie gave her mother an awkward, one-armed hug since Melanie was carrying her Owl cage. In that cage contained a brown owl who she named Ferry. "Bye, Mom, I love you." Miss Soto, too upset to respond, nodded and Melanie than ran through the wall of Platform Nine.
Melanie soon found herself in another platform, which had a sign that read 'Platform Nine and Three Quarters.' She smiled at the train, which read on the side, 'Hogwarts Express.' "Hogwarts, here I come. For the last time." She stepped into the train with a wide grin and headed for her usual spot.
When Melanie arrived to her spot, she threw open the curtain that seperated the spot from the aisle, and smiled. Her best friends, Noah, Logan, and Paige were all there. She sat down in the last open seat next to Logan and gave him a friendly kiss on the cheek. "I missed you guys!" She said. They all responded with "Missed you too, kiddie." That was her nickname for them. She was the youngest of the four, thus her being the 'Kid' of the group. They called Logan 'Geezer,' who was the oldest, called Noah 'PB,' for Peanut butter (that's in the middle of a sandwich), and they called Paige 'Jelly' (for again, that what was in the middle of a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich). Noah, who was tall, took Ferry's cage and gently placed it above them. Logan was squeezing Melanie to death. Melanie and Logan were best friends, and had been since they were five. Paige was jabbering away about her summer and also asking about her friends's, too. Melanie was beaming the whole time.
