Let's travel back in time for a bit. It's way before Harry was born, or James met Lilly. The boys are back in school, spreading chaos and discord. Not to mention terrorizing Severus Snape. Only,, the Dementors from Harry's time have traveled back, leaving Harry and, under Voldemort's orders, trying to kill someone who can't fight him. Voldemort's goal is to kill James, therefore altering the future and making it impossible for Harry to ever be born.

The boys get sucked into a time portal, finding themselves in the future, and facing their older selves. Now the boys are doing whatever it takes to keep Lilly and James alive.
