The trigger shifted.
A bang rippled through the air, near visisble. Green eyes swerving, Kiri watched the bullet move in slow motion.
First, he took her heart. Then, he broke it. Next, he took her best friend, and he broke that too. Now her sanity. Like a ruler warped from rain, he gripped it tight, smiled, and quickly snapped it in half.
Kiri didn't even feel herself move to grip the knife. She didn't hear herself slip it into her pocket and tuck it under her shirt. Her eyes were blind when she beckoned Neil into the dark room, kicked in his chest with her knee and adreneline, and brutally held him down face-up. Jade orbs burst up into flame, eager to consume the life before her as she had done so many times before. Snarling, Kiri spoke and held her hidden knife to his throat.
The shock in his eyes wasn't dettering in the least.
Kiri practically growled. "Yes, you idiot. Have you not noticed? All of you, idiots." She spat the words. "You think I'm ditzy? You think you can just blow me off and run around with Cori? Not gonna happen. Not. Going. To happen. You will die young, and alone, and afraid. Have freaking fun." Her eyes burned and licked at her kill. Her body radiated fierceness. The knife drew just a small trickle of blood, and bit in for more on the soft skin of Neil's neck. "Cori will never be yours. She's mine. Lay off." With each word, more blood ran down the pale skin. Kiri hissed in absolute hatred. She whispered to Neil. "I am the Pewter God."

Cori walked leisurely down the blank and bland hallway, past many dorms. She hugged the pillow in her arms, wishing she could hug it into oblivion. No, she thought, I wish I could hug Neil into oblivion. I... I can't believe he finally asked me out! She rushed faster to Kiri's room, practically skipping. The loaded handgun in the new uniform every Pewter Stars "Contestant" had recieved was completely forgotten in her joy.
Cori knocked three times on the door to Kiri's room, waiting happily for a response. All she heard was a muffled scuffling, and Cori wondered if she should go. Maybe Ziggy is having a fit again. When a quiet pained cry came from the room, she entered without hesistation. Kiri must need help.
The scene before her was unbelievable, but Cori had always followed her instinct. When she saw the bloodied blonde hair on the ground, she didn't think. She only fired.
Kiri saw nothing but the bullet, Cori, and a flash. In an instant, she was on the ground, face up, arms splayed. Blood spilled from her skull, and the fire in her eyes was extinguished. Her snarl was erased. Calm, foresty eyes returned. They shifted to Cori as a final command from Kiri's brain. "Cori..." Vision flickered and blurred. "I never thought it would be you..." Her lips moved soundlessly. I'm sorry. Her eyes were blank. Her mouth was neutral. Metal clattered into blood as the knife fell from her hand and her fingers relaxed. All was calm. The only sound was the slow trickle of blood from Kiri's body and the slight wheeze of Neil, struggling to survive.
