Demi watched Max go for a minute, then ate her last pepper and rested her elbows on the table, not really caring about manners. Who ever said putting your elbows on the table was bad etiquette, anyway? It's not like it could really disturb people. Not like burping or something.
The bell clanged surprisingly close by, and Demi clapped her hands over her ears as the sound throttled her ear drums thoroughly. "Ugh." She winced. The bell stopped and Demi slowly unclenched her fingers, which had been digging their nails in to her skull.
"Would it hurt to turn that thing down?" Her voice held a hint of a snap.
"But I guess that means lunch is over." She frowned slightly. "What comes next? I didn't look at the rest of the schedule."

Demi grinned at him. "It's posted on the inside of the door to the cabin, so don't worry about it." She pushed her chair back and stood. "See you guys back at the cabin. I'm just going on ahead to get a little bit of... can we say fresh air?" She smiled, then lurched forward out the door.
But she didn't hit the deck. She wheeled upward, going violently fast and recklessly uncontrolled, like a leaf blown around by a gale. Eventually she spiralled to a slow, graceful stop.
She was hundreds of feet above the camp. The forest was even more breathtaking from above, the lake shimmering and clear in the sun. Dusk is going to like that. Demi grinned, let herself drop about a hundred feet in a freefall, then blasted herself to a jarring halt with a cushion of air.
After hovering for a few minutes, feeling the bittersweet happiness of floating above the world and enjoying the wind on her skin, she plummeted down again, aiming for a sturdy tree. She slowed as she reached it, then blinked as she saw Max sitting on one of the top branches.
"Hi." She raised her hand in greeting. She was only about ten feet above him.

Dusk fled to the outside world and ran towards the lake. She could feel it was there. The rushing water pounded in her brain and the waves seamed to match the rythm of her heart. She leaped into the water and as she did, her feet clasped together and legs merged to become a tail. Fins thrust themselves out of her arms. Her black hair become wet and tangled and her eyes turned silver, though she still couldn't see. She dove and didn't come up till she had explored every nook and cranny of the lake..

Demi raised her eyebrows, then smiled slightly. "I like people who can make bad jokes." She said, flicking one hand dismissively. "What cabin are you? I'm Eleven." She thrust her hands downward, causing her to rise about fifteen feet so that she could see the large clearing that held all the cabins.
She could see Eleven; it was the closest one to the lake, and pretty much smack in the middle of the large, semicircle of cabins around it. She glanced down at Max again, easily picking him out because of his bright hair. It wasn't unlike the reddish apples around him.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Dusk fling herself in to the dark water of the lake in the distance, with Tomix walked towards her.

As soon as Max called 'Eight', Demi's gaze flickered to the large golden figure eight plastered above the door of the cabin. The cabins went in order, so it was easy to find. Fourth to the left from Demi and Dusk's. She nodded once to herself, making a mental note.
I wonder if Rope is in the same cabin as Max. Tomix probably is as well. The camp wasn't even very populated, but she guessed the huge amount of cabins was for family camping, which happened later in the summer.
So said the letter.
Without saying anything she let up, losing her 'grip' on the air current below her, and falling. On her way down she snagged a lower branch of the apple tree and hit the ground safely, saving herself from a spine-shocking landing. She looked up, eyes searching through the leaves for Max.
"I'm going for a swim." She said in her normal voice, now that they were close enough not to have to yell. She snapped the stem of an apple on the tree and took it with her as she walked. The flesh was tart but refreshing.

"Peachy." Demi said sarcastically, then corrected herself. "But really, I'm fine. Landing isn't a big deal for me. I don't weight that much."
That was an understatement; her weight would be considered basically lethal for someone her age. Barely sixty pounds. After all, her bones were hollow, to accomodate her power.
"Hey, Max." She said. Her tone was a bit hesitant, and she tucked a strand of long brown hair behind her ear. "Do your parents know about your power?" She wasn't even sure what his power was, but she just wanted to ask. She was still seriously considering telling her mother.

Crap. I asked something bad. Demi dared to glance at Max, who's normally lively face had stiffened up, no emotion showing on his features. She paused before speaking.
"I wouldn't call her your mother. If she can abandon you like that and shut you out for the rest of your life then she has no right to be called something so important," Demi growled.
"I'm going to tell my mother when I get home. I hope she won't react badly."

"Figured as much. Still, I don't want to leave it unsaid forever." Her ex
pression hardened, her eyes narrowing. "Better learn sooner than later if my mother thinks I'm a monster, right?" She left Max's side in a jump, leaving a gust rustling his hair and clothes as she shot across and above the lake. When she was in a deeper section, she let herself fall.
She impact knocked the air out of her, but it was exhillerating at the same time. She shot down into the lake's depths. A few seconds later, she opened her eyes.
Black. That was all she could see. Her head whipped frantically from side to side, then up. She couldn't see the sky. Panic froze her heart. Was that even upwards? She couldn't tell. Where was it? Where was open air?
Within seconds she started floating up, the breath bottled inside her causing her to float. She knew which way was up now, and kicked strongly at the water, pushing her way towards the surface. Sunlight began to leak through, illuminating a few clouds above.
Her head broke the surface, and she sucked in sweet air like a landed fish. She stroked her way closer to the s*censored* where Dusk, Tomix and Max were gathered.
"I think I'll just stay in this general area." She said grimly.
