Blackstream dipped her head to Eaglestar before going to the fresh kill pile. She grabbed a quail and a very large vole from the fresh kill pile and took it to the medicine cat's den. She dropped the prey and called inside, "Willowshine? Are you in there? I need to talk to you."

"I'm intrigued. Tell me more." Willowshine's eyes narrowed as she curled her tail around her front paws. "I'm guessing Eaglestar is sending us to recruit Fireshadow. You two should keep your voices down." Willowshine smiled viciously as her eyes glinted with amusement. "A cat could hear you from here to Starclan. Be more discreet, deputy."
Willowshine scarfed down the vole, throwing grace to the wind. She finished quickly and cleanly, and drew a paw over her ear. "Shall we leave, deputy? Unless you'd like to eat something." Willowshine let out a throaty purr as she glanced at Blackstream's quail. "Take your time. I'm not going anywhere."
Snowbird peeked her head around the medicine cat's den. "Be more polite, Willowshine." Snowbird purred lightly. "What the point of being polite?" Willowshine replied, her eyes narrowed. "Well, for one thing, cats might like you more if you were nicer." "I do my job well. Kindness has no part in healing. Only skill," |

Blackstream let out a purr as she said, "I don't mind." she ate the quail quickly and buried the remains in the dirt before cleaning her self. As she felt content, around her friends and having a full belly, she knew she had to go find Fireshadow. "We should go." Blackstream meowed, quickly pressing her cheek against Snowbird. "We'll be back soon."

"Be careful," Snowbird purred back, flicking her long tail, her blue eyes sharp and compassionate. "You never know how Fireshadow might react. After all, he could be resentful of our Clan, which survived while his didn't." "That's exactly what Eaglestar said!" Willowshine exclaimed, holding back laughter. She brushed briefly against Blackstream and darted out of the Clan, feeling suddenly energetic. It had been a while since she had been out in the forest without a worry. Whenever she was in the forest, it was always with Viperfang, and she always worried about him. She worried constantly, and she often forced him to rest in the medicine den most days in case his leg worsened. "Let's go!" She threw back her head and yowled her jubilation. Snowbird snorted and trotted away, waving her tail in amusement. |

[[It's snowing---or was snowing heavily for a long time since lunch where I live. I looked like a snowman walking home. Just glad I'm in my toasty house. We have almost two feet of snow! :D]]
Blackstream darted through the forest, catching up to Willowshine. She pointed her nose up in the air and opened her mouth as she tasted the air. "He should be right near here." she dropped into a crouch, her tail almost floating above the dry leaves that scattered the ground. She heard a hiss, and jumped back, her tail shooting straight up in the air. A orange pelt emerged from the bushes, his back arched for a few seconds, then relaxed. "Oh, just some she-cats." he let out a throaty purr and let out a mrraow of laughter. "What do you two want?" he meowed. "Wait one minute." he went back into the bushes and pulled out two large, fat squirrels. "Here." he shoved them forward with his paw. Blackstream meowed coolly, "No thanks. We ate before. I don't suppose you've been hunting on our territory?" Fireshadow flinched at the bitterness in her tone. "Sorry." she mumbled quickly. "But we have something to ask you."

"Yes, we do," Willowshine's eyes narrowed as she let out a throaty purr, her rough, musical voice was naturally seductive, but there was a tired toughness underneath her pleasant manner. Her steely eyes glinted as she inclined her head toward Fireshadow, stepping up next to Blackstream. "Eaglestar sends his best regards," Willowshine paused and thought briefly before continuing. "Stoneclan suffers from lack of warriors, and although I regret admitting it, we are not as strong as we once were. Not because of lack of skill, but from lack of numbers. Would you consider joining our Clan? I know that you come from a Clan yourself. You would already have adequate fighting and hunting skills." Willowshine motioned to the pair of plump squirrels with her ear. "Perhaps the companionship of fellow warriors would be welcome to you, after all this time." |

Fireshadow looked at Willowshine thoughtfully. "Come back to me when the moon is full, my decision will be made then." He heard Blackstream let out a snort of annoyance. "I apologize for this, but I must take my time in this, for I still mourn in the death of my mate and kits. I've lost everything, and so I must think about it." With that, he padded back through the bushes and headed towards his makeshift home.
Blackstream sighed, "Maybe he's not going to join Stoneclan."

"I hope he does," Willowshine replied evenly. "Besides, if he needs time to think, he's obviously considering it." "Shall we go back to camp, deputy?" The silver and gray tabby cat blinked slowly at Blackstream, and she stooped to gather some herbs into her mouth, biting the stems off quickly and efficiently. "Well, are you going to help, or are you just going to stand there?" Willowshine looked up from the clump of herbs. "These goldenrod are not going to collect themselves, Blackstream."

Eaglestar lowered himself to the ground, his breath silent and his tail twitching from side to side in excitement. Leaping forward, he slammed his paws down onto the unsuspecting pheasant and killed it with a sharp blow to the neck. He silently gave thanks to Starclan for such fat and easy to catch prey this early in newleaf. Stoneclan had lost many cats to the battle between the vicious spirit cats from the Dark Forest. They needed to build up their strength, considering there were only a handful of them left.
"Find a place to hide this for me," Eaglestar gently shoved the dead forest bird over to Viperfang, who had come along on the hunting patrol to stretch his legs and see if his bad shoulder was getting any better. Although Willowshine had said the blow from the boulder would probably keep him like this forever, Viperfang still hoped of a full recovery sooner or later. "Of course," Viperfang's eyes glinted at the plump catch. "That's the biggest bird I've seen in moons. It's been a while since I took down a pheasant." Viperfang blinked humorously at his leader and hid the pheasant underneath a pile of leaves, sure to cover it completely so that other predators in the forest would not take it for their own meal.
"Eaglestar, I found some juniper berries. Do you think I could bring some to Willowshine? She told me she was running a bit low on them." Snowbird trotted up. Her speech was slightly muffled from the fluffy squirrel in her small jaws. "That's a great idea," Eaglestar said warmly to the she-cat. Snowbird was one of the more popular warriors in the Clan, known for her sweet personality and her caring attitude toward others. "I'll help," Viperfang offered, limping over and gathering the berries into his mouth.

Blackstream let out a purr and helped Willowshine harvest the herbs.
Through a clumpful of herbs, she meowed,
"I'm pretty sure Fireshadow lived on our territory. I have a feeling he's hunting some of the prey here."
She stuffed her mouth full of herbs until the scent of them almost made her gag.
She flicked her tail, towards Willowshine, ready to return back to camp.
I hope I don't have to have these herbs in my mouth much longer. She thought.
Or I'm going to smell like this for moons.
______________________________________________ Fireshadow returned to his makeshift home, a tiny bit of moss and feathers in a small log.
He crawled in, and closed his eyes. Sleep overcame him fast, and for once he didn't mind it.
When he awoke, which could have only been a short time after he had fallen asleep, his stomach was roaring.
He got up groggily and shook the moss and dampness out of his fur. He squeezed out of the log and sniffed the air.
He smelled squirrel. He looked around, until he found it, munching on a nut, completely oblivious to him.
Leaping, though early, he gripped on his tail and managed to kill it in a bite. He thanked Starclan and then munched on it until it was nothing more than bones. He buried it in the dirt before heading back to his home once again.

Willowshine purred back to Blackstream, her tail flicking back and forth in amusement at the dark cat's reaction to the strong taste and smell of the herbs. "I've actually seen Fireshadow hunting before, but he's only one cat. He shouldn't do too much harm to our prey load. After all, newleaf is here and the prey is gradually getting fatter and more plentiful. Willowshine stepped silently through the undergrowth, her sleek fur shining in the sunlight filtering through the thick leaves of newleaf. "However, we'll have to hope that he decides to join our Clan or else come leafbare, even one loner cat taking our prey would mean less food in already hard times." Willowshine twitched her ears thoughtfully, her paws landing in front of her delicately. |

Blackstream followed Willowshine into the camp, rushing towards the medicine cat's den and spitting out all the herbs once inside. "Blech!" She hissed, trying to get the taste of herbs off her tounge.
