Shimmerfang was up early. Her whiskers quivered as she tasted the morning air, then leapt a a vole as she scented it on her left. The small rodent gave out with a squeak. Shimmerfang picked it up, ignoring the tasty smells wafting from it. She began to carry it back up to camp, ready for the new day to begin.

Later, Wildfire returned with some starlings, a baby rabbit and a mouse. He laid his fallen prey allongside Shimmerfang's, and went inside to wake the others up. Rhen was waiting.

Sitting on one of the stony outcrops that lead to the main den of the quaint little home, Alcarié slitted his eyes as the appearing sun slanted into them. He much preferred the darker concealment of night. Looking towards the sky, a soft growl rang through his throat as the sun warmed his sightly damp, chilly pelt. He'd been sitting there for hours before the sun has risen, watching everything yet nothing at the same time. His dreams had been plagued again, haunted by the beautiful golden tabby with the painstakingly striking green eyes. He missed Viveral with a fierce ache that had yet to ease even after a season of her death. He sighed softly, wondering where the rouges that had killed her and their oldest son had taken his daughter. He could remember it all so clearly, and it made him shutter with bitter grief and anger. Slamming his eyes shut, the black tom bounded down from his perch as if running from the memories. He had a home now, and other cats to take care of as his rank of beta one. Poking his nose into the main den, he looked around for Luoke. The tiny, fragile kit, had wormed his way into Alcarié's bitter heart. Perhaps it was to make up for the loss of his son, even though Luoke did not have near the strength or promise Raze had held. Gently nudging the tom, Alcarié gazed intently at the long jagged scar that had brought Luoke into his, and the groups, life. "Wake up." He meowed coldly, gravelly voice forcing the other cat to wake from a peaceful slumber the other envied. "It time for a lesson on hunting." He turned tail and was about to pad into the woods when he stopped beside Rhen. "Hey." He greeting roughly, dipping his head slightly to the other beta. "Did Wildfire leave any instructions he wanted us to do today?" He asked quizzically, having seen the leader pad off earlier. Luoke's short ragged pelt brushed against his and the tiny head circled from around his chest to look at Rhen. Luoke smiled warmly, kitten face lighting in delight at the prospect of finally getting out of the den and into the forest. " Good morning Rhen!" He squeaked cheerily, causing his father figure to roll his eyes. OoC: Slightly late post...will perhaps edit.

Rhen smiled at Alcarie as he walked up. "No, but he should be back... there he is." Wildfire treaded out of the brush with his prey and laid them at the other's paws. "Good morning everyone." He mewed. He saw Alcarie and Lu leaving and asked, "Do you want breakfast first before you leave?" He asked the black cat. Wildfire smiled warmly at Alcarie's cold face, and nudged the rabbit twords the two cats. ((Sorry I'm not as litterate as you Stray.))

Alcarié wondered weather to accept the rabbit, itching to catch his own prey just to show he could, but not wanting to offend his leader. Finally he dipped his head and grabbed the prey scruff, brining it closer to himself and Luoke. He motioned for his apprentice of sorts to take first bite. "Thats very kind of you Wildfire, thanks." Alcarié spoke, trying to put a little warmth in his voice. It was Wildfire wafter all who had accepted him into the group after travelling for what felt like forever in search of a place to forget memories. He also had let the crippled tom Luoke join the group even though he would be little use. Looking down at his son of sorts, Alcarié was glad to see his appetite had returned. After receiving the wounds that had led him here, Luoke wanted to do little but sleep. Taking a bite from the rabbit, Alcarié let the younger cat finish it before starting to to forest. "Thanks Wildfire!" Luoke exclaimed, limping swiftly towards the wookds as well.

Wildfire watched the black cat sulk into the darkness. He knew what was going through Alcarie's mind, and sighed. He wondered how to help the other cat... mabe he should give him and Lu more room, but he could tell poor Lu needed more company. He looked into Rhen's icy eyes, then picked up the mouse for her. I could see in her ex pression that she was thinking the same thing as me when she took the rodent from my relaxed jaws. She rubbed her head on mine, then we shared the meal together. I set Alcarie to the back of my mind and focused on the limp creature in frount of him.

Alcarié watched in slight sadness as Luoke yet again missed the miss by at least two tail lengths. The younger cat cursed, turning around to face his foster dad miserably. "I don't know if I'll ever get this hunting thing down." He meowed out sadly, ears drooping. "I do everything you tell me! I just keep tripping over my paws and not moving fast enough." He padded dejectedly towards Alcarié, who, in a rare show of affection, liked the other cats ear. It was the truth though, no matter how much he refused to admit it. Luoke would never be able to hunt because his long, shaky limbs were a pain for him to just walk on, more less run and stalk. The two padded back towards the camp, Alcarié dropping Luoke off before taking back off into the forest. Luoke watched as the black cat slunk off, ears still drooped. He hated to disappoint Alcarié, who'd done so much for him. But he just could not seem to situate his legs like they were supposed to. Padding over to sit beside Wildfire and Rhen, he clawed at the ground in agitation." Anything new happening?" He asked his leader, wanting to get his mind off his mistakes.

"Not really. How did the hunting go?" Rhen asked. Wildfire shot her a warning glance, seeing the dissapointed look in Lu's eyes. The poor little thing. He shot the cat a sympathedic glance.

Luoke looked at his paws, not wanting to draw any attention on the fact he'd had the opportunity to catch a few voles and two mice and he'd screwed up on all of them. He shrugged, laying his head onto his paws. "It went...not so good." He looked up and met Wildfire's eyes. He looked up to Wildfire and knew he would speak the truth even if it was not what he wanted to hear. "Alcarié seems to think i'll become a hunter one day. But somehow I doubt it." He paused and closed his eyes. "Do you think I have what it takes to become successful and do anything good for our group?" He asked.

Wildfire looked soothingly into Luoke's eyes and knelt down to eye level with the silver cat. "You have the power to do anything you want, and I'm certian that someday you'll be far better than I've ever been at anything. You are already doing something nobody else in the group ever has- made me smile even on the worst of days. You are a joy to have in the family." he whispered. "And if you want, we can try again whial Alcarie is gone, what do you say?" I offered the tabby.

Luoke pricked his ears in delight, eyes widening. The leader was asking him to hunt with him! He nearly bounded to his paws, fur bristling in excitement. "Really?" He squeaked out. "I'd love to..I mean yes Wildfire, I'd love to go." Embarr*censored*ment made his fur flush but did not dampen his mood. "You really think i'll be able to do something with my life?" He whispered to no cat, a smile blooming across his muzzle. Perhaps he was not useless after all, even though he was weak in body. "Thank you Wildfire, it means a lot." The young cat then scampered off to grab a small piece of kill Alcarié had caught for him on the way back, gulping it down before licking his fur clean.

"Oh... Please, can I sleep for just a few more minutes?" Sparkwhisker heard her voice come out in a whine similar to a kit's. "Oh, come on, you're the last one up," Shimmerfang said grumpily. The ginger she-cat leapt to her paws, feeling embara.ssment turn her ears against her skull. "i'm, I'm sorry," she murmured, looking at her bright red pwas. The older cat chuckled and nudged her out of her den. "WEll, you'd better get going if you want to be forgiven." Of course, Shimmerfang was joking, but Sparkwhisker still nodded a quick greeting to Wildfire, Rhen, Alcarie, and Luoke before dashing into the forest. She had time to make up for, and she certainly wasn't going to waste it. Ignoring the hollow rumbling of her own belly, she caught a small starling, two mice, and missed a squirrel. With a muttered curse, she returned to camp and dropped her prey off with the other's. "NJow that that;s done," she announced, "Good morning to everyone!" Then, she gave in to the rumbling in her stomach and tucked into the starling that she had caught.

Alcarié padded back into camp with a small mouse hanging from his jaws. He had not gone into the forest to hunt, but more the think and reminisce, but the dumb mouse had literally crawled across his paws begging to be caught. Dropping the small offering off at the kill section, he sat down beside Rhen and began to groom his pelt having forgot to that morning. Looking up swiftly as Luoke bounded onto his back, he chuckled softly and rolled over, batting the much smaller cat with gentle paws. Though he might seem a bit gruff and aggressive towards most, he had a soft spot for kits and did not mind to let them ruffle his fur a pit in play. Finally Luoke lay across his back and grinned happily. "Guess what!?" He squeaked excitedly. Alcarié cuffed him gently across the ears before licking down his now dust covered fur. "What?" He inquired, giving the small silver tom a curious look. Though it did not take a lot to make Luoke happy, he seemed genuinely excited, fur fluffing out and eyes shinning with a light he thought was lost after he recovered from his wounds. "Wildfire is going to go hunting with me!" The tiny cat exclaimed, bounding back to his paws with ease. At least the wound seems to have healed, Alcarié thought, trying to keep his annoyance to himself. He did not want to dampen Luoke's delight at going hunting with the leader, but it was his job as foster father to train him. Finally he forced a smile and licked his ear. "Thats wonderful. I'm sure Wildfire will teach you things I never could." He meowed modestly, watching as Luoke padded back over to the leader. Scowling slightly, pulling a small burr from his pelt, Alcarié mentally sighed as yet more cats showed up, wondering if he would seem rude to again slink off on his own. Deciding it would the black tom stayed put. The smell of more kills made his mouth water and the pigeon Wildfire had brought to share between himself and Luoke seemed like a long time ago. "Morning Sparkwhisker." He meowed, nodding slightly. Picking up the mouse he'd caught, he lay down and began to eat as well.
