Krael and the russet male each struggled to best the other, each one receiving quite a collection of bite marks and bruises. But Krael didn't feel the pain. He was oblivious to the blood, hot and sticky, that oozed from his cuts. He was oblivious, also, to the smarting and stinging of his wounds. His entire world had been reduced to some primal instinct that told him the most important thing he could do would be winning the fight against the other were.
Leaping at the stocky wolf with a snarl, Krael barrelled into him with all of his weight. The male fell to the floor and the two once more became a mass of bristling fur and snapping jaws. Krael felt the other were's teeth sink deep into his shoulder, and he suppressed a yelp lest he seem weak. Krael pulled away and they both scrambled to their feet, beginning to circle around each other, eyes locked onto each other as each looked to strike again.
~~~
"It's really hard to say," Damien replied. It really was, since half the place had apparently decided to shift form and almost everyone had joined the fight. Damien had actually long since lost sight of the alphas, and he briefly wondered if they were doing alright. Of course they are, he thought. They're alphas, they can't not be alright... right?
~~~
Serena's eyes widened. Shaunie wasn't suggesting that they... she couldn't seriously think...?
Dread settled in the pit of Serena's stomach as she realized the true extent of what was happening. She and another werewolf that was supposed to be her enemy were in the midst of a huge fight, and the enemy-turned-ally of a she wolf had just suggested they use the Yamei howl together.
For one absurd moment, Serena wondered if it would even work, if she was even capable of doing it.
Then, she realized something else. How worried Shaunie must have been to even mention such a thing. It wasn't exactly a common thing, to use the Yamei howl. But Serena knew what her answer was immediately.
Leaping away from the wolf she had been fighting, Serena risked a brief but no less meaningless glance at the jet black wolf that was Shaunie.
Squaring herself, with her mouth set in a hard line of determination even in wolf form, Serena began to speak.
"I don't see any other choice."
~~~
"I..." Lore began, at a loss for words. He had spent his entire life just trying not to get beaten up by what were supposedly his 'family'. Now, this stranger had just promised to protect him.
Getting kidnapped really does show you who your real friends are. Lore mused, feeling genuine gratitude and happiness for the first time in a very long while.
"Thank you," he said, not able to convey how much he really was thankful for Lucia in so few words.
''This is getting interesting...'' Muttered the man to himself, pulling the curtain over the window he had previously been looking out of. Walking with long, purposeful strides, he reached his desk and started shuffling around papers, looking for the correct documents. The fight going on in the courtyard below had entertained him for some time, but now it was time for business. Finding the folder he had been searching for, he fell into the green, leather-bound chair behind the desk, before picking up the sleek black phone upon the desk. Dialing a few numbers, he pressed the phone against his ear, smiling as he heard the ring tone. -click- ''Hello? Who's there?'' A feminine voice on the other side of the phone. ''It's me.'' '' 'Me'? You'll have to be a little more specific than that.'' ''Stop kidding around. Now isn't the time. You know fully well who I am.'' A sigh. ''Yeah, I guess I do... What do you want, Markus?'' ''Are you thick? I call you up and don't say my name, and you state my name over the phone?'' ''Well. You were boring me. Get on with it.'' Another sigh, this time from the man. ''Fine. The weres are all gathered. They appear to be getting very... well-acquainted.'' ''Good. Make sure too many of them don't die before they've served their purpose.'' ''I will. Is that all you want for now?'' ''No. How are my creations doing?'' ''Well, they seem to be causing suspicion among the weres.'' ''Good.'' Silence. ''By the way, I've sent you a toy over, Markus. I think you'll enjoy it.'' -click- ~~~~~ Tenebrae tried to dodge the brown wolf's next attack, but failed and got knocked to the ground again. The wolf bit down once more, and thing scontinued in much a similar pattern, with Tenebrae trying his best to stay out of the other wolf's way and failing miserably the majority of the time. After what seemed like an age of swerving back and forth, of trying to dodge and duck, Tenebrae finally saw an opening and ran for it. His heart was pounding, and his body ached; he was not the kind of wolf who could feel no pain with adrenaline running through his veins, but he was the kind of wolf who could ignore it and pretend he didn't feel it. Running as fast as he could- which was pretty damn fast- he reached the other side of the courtyard, where little fighting seemed to be going on, and it looked like he'd lost the brown wolf. ~~~~ Skellig shook his head, not bothering to look at the fighting any more, and instead paying more attention to Damien. ''I don't see why they have to fight the whole time. I mean, they're not even fighting just for the fun of it.'' He said, sighing. His soft indifference was lost, though, as a huge wolf slammed into the table, hitting with enough force to knock it back and into the two boys. The table was large, and so Skellig pushed his chair out and stood up, glaring at the wolf. He'd bruised his chest, and glanced over to Damien to see if he was okay. ''You alright, mate?'' ~~~~ Shaunie nodded her head, and prepared herself into the correct stance. In order for the Yamei howl to be effective, everything had to be set so they made the most noise possible. She moved her one of her back paws slightly to the right, one of her forelegs a fraction to the left. Satisfied all four legs were planted firmly and solidly, she took one last, quick glance at Serena, before throwing her head back and howling to the morning sky. It was a howl that pierced into the very hearts of her pack; it was an ancient, sorrowful call, that even the elders of her pack at home didn't fully understand. The notes were wavering, creating a melody that danced and waved, ever fleeting. All around, the Northern Moon Tribe stopped their fighting and stood, stock still. Something within them deeper than blood told them they had to listen to what was being said, even if it cost them their lives. No matter what, they had to aknowledge the alpha, had to stop everything and focus every sense upon the cause of that howl. Such was the effect and power of the Yamei howl, and as such, it was a deadly serious thing to use. ~~~~ Lucia smiled, about to reply. It seemed she'd managed to calm Lore down, and it also seemed he trusted her a little bit more than before. Whether she was happy about that fact or not, she wasn't sure at first. It was a heavy burden, the trust of another wolf, but she decided it would be worth carrying it. For some reason, the fact that it was Lore's trust did a lot to help her decide that. Before she got the chance to utter another word, though, she heard a howl so deep it tore at her heart, and she wasn't even sure it was her own Alpha's howl.
Well now. I should... Probably put something intelligent here. At some point. Eventually. ... ... Screw it. HYE. ♥
((Holy...! Huge post is huge. And homg. Mr Tux has a name O _O))
Krael squared himself to once again launch himself at his foe when suddenly a piercing howl struck something at the very centre of his being. Panicking, he tried to wrench himself free from the powerful grasp that the noise had on him, but to no avail. The russet male that he had been fighting seemed to notice too, but it didn't have the same effect on him. All the same, he refrained from attacking Krael, unsure of what was happening.
The howl had an almost hypnotic quality that forced Krael to listen, and he even felt the compulsion to seek out the source and... check in on her? That couldn't be right. Anyone in their right mind would try to get far away from whatever had made that noise, but somehow Krael found himself unable to move away. The tone of the eery howl seemed to say it was a friend, and that Krael should- no, needed to- listen.
So finally Krael stopped resisting in the ultimately futile fight he had put up. He sat down, completely still except for his ears, which swivelled to catch the sound better.
~~~
Damien sucked air through his teeth at the sudden and unexpected pain of having a table slammed into his chest. He too stood up quickly. Apart from the initial impact, he thought he was alright.
"Yeah, fine." he said, rubbing the spot where the table had struck with his hand. "What about you?"
Just then, there was a howl that was both distinctly wolf and at the same time unlike anything he had ever heard before. Damien froze. "What is that?" he asked Skellig, eyes wide. "What's happening to the others?"
For sure enough, wolves all over were suddenly becoming statue-like in their stillness as they listened to the call.
~~~
Serena imitated what Shaunie had done, readying herself for what may very well be the most important and risky thing she had ever done as a leader.
After a moment's preparation, she threw her head back and let loose the single pure note of wolfsong that rang uncomfortably loud in her ears. She felt a certain sense of exhilaration as she howled, and wondered if Shaunie felt the same.
Serena realized that, likely, never before had something like this been attempted. Sure, wolves had used the Yamei howl before, though it was rare. But to her knowledge, two enemy alphas had never worked together in using the ancient call before.
That isn't true, Serena thought to herself, even as the pure sound of the Yamei howl still streamed forth from her stark white maw. We've only known each other for a day, but we've already been through enough that we are no longer enemies. Using the Yamei howl with another werewolf, no matter what you thought of them before, brings you far closer than you ever could have been before. I doubt Shaunie would agree, but I think this whole experience has made us more than short-term allies. Friends, even.
~~~
Lore felt a sudden urge to stop everything and listen.
((Completely epic fail for Lore. So sorry- need to go have dinner and I don't trust my computer to leave it alone for a few minutes. I'll try to make up for it in the next post >.<))

[[Lol. It's only huge 'cos of teh phone call at the start. xD And yuz. Mr Tux has a phail name that I thought sounded cool at the time. |3 Butanyway. Dat mystery lady be important still, even if we dun know her name. xD]] Tenebrae glanced round nervusly as the first of the howls sounded, and roughly half the wolves in the courtyard froze to listen to it. Sure, it was unnerving and eerie, but Ten couldn't understand why it should affect some wolves so deeply, and yet others seemed unphased. That changed, however, when the second of the soul-striking howls picked up. He too froze then, his spirit itself telling him he needed to listen to that howl, and go to it's source, no matter what. His very being depended on the creator of that sound, or so his instincts told him, but his head told him to stay as far away from whatever could have made a noise like that. Still, his instincts were to strong to ignore, so although he wanted to run, he didn't. He sat back on his haunches and looked in the direction the sound was coming from, ears pricked as he listened to the sorrowful call. ~~~~ Skellig found himself unable to hear the question that Damien had asked, his very soul being directed to the source of the sound. His eyes were even more distant than the times he zoned out, his breathing deep. Although he couldn't prick or swivel his ears like the wolves could while in his human form, he did keep tilting his head to the side slightly as he tried to hear better. Something about the notes struck something within him; the second howl that joined only strengthened that. He listened as the two melodies intertwined and created one perfect harmony, the most eerie, yet beautiful, thing he had ever heard. ~~~~ Shaunie was glad Serena had joined in. Their howls seemed so... so... loud. The only noise in a place that was now silent. It did nothing other than make the howling seem even more unnatural, though, and even Shaunie herself thought the harmonic howling eerie. Finally, when she was convinced every wolf was calm and paying attention, she allowed the howl to die down slowly, her voice gradually becoming less and less noticable until only Serena's howl could be heard. She put her head down and watched the other alpha, wondering what could have been going through her head. What she was thinking. Was she thinking that she could have just been a part of one of the most powerful Yamei howls in the ancient history of the wolves, or was she thinking what a dishonour it was that she had to do the Yamei howl with an enemy alpha? ~~~~ Lucia found herself unable to pay any attention to anything other than the deep howling, and twited her body round in her seat to see the source of the noise better. Even when one of the howling wolves dropped out, she still couldn't tear her gaze away. What was this? What kind of howl were those two doing? [[Lol, I dun mind. Failing is better than mega procrastinating like I do. |3]]

((Markus kinda fits. I think I like it. o3o Pax on the other hand... xD))
Krael listened intently as the howls- for there were two now- rang forth in the newly formed silence. The sheer volume reminded him of the blaring and wailing of sirens of some lonely police car as it took up a chase along a deserted road.
Suddenly, yet with almost painful slowness at the same time, the main melody of the howl dropped in pitch until it was snuffed out like a dying flame. Now only the harmony remained, still calling sorrowfully like some sad little bird singing to its dead mate. As if singing could ever bring them back...
-
Krael was obnoxious by nature. He was a rebel and a rule-breaker and frankly, an inconsiderate jerk. But even Krael, loud brass Krael, would never dream of so much as attempting to interrupt what was happening. The word 'Yamei', had someone mentioned it to him, would have meant nothing. He had never heard of it in his life. The Yamei howl wasn't something you learned to use, nor to respond to. It was something every werewolf was born with knowledge of. Knowledge, it seemed, that lay dormant until it was needed. Every fibre of Krael's being was focused on his Alphess, and he practically held his breath as he awaited her orders. At the moment, Krael was willing to give his life if it meant following the orders of his Alpha.
The Yamei howl was a powerful force indeed.
~~~
Damien, initially, had felt only fear. Now, though, as the second howl of his own Alpha joined in the call, he felt something else. A strange mixture of the sensation of being comforted, alongside a deep sense of duty. He was almost sad when the first of the howls stopped, though he only listened more intently to the second, willing it not to end.
~~~
Serena wasn't aware, at first, when Shaunie ended the call. She continued to howl for a few moments, her voice the only sound now in the otherwise silent room.
Then she allowed the single pure note to fade away, lessening in volume until it stopped completely.
Looking around the room, Serena saw that every were had his or her eyes trained on the two alphas.
It worked.
~~~
Lore sat completely still. He longed to look around and see if every other wolf in the room was as spellbound as he. However, he didn't dare risk looking away from Shaunie, who had just become the centre of his attention. She was all that mattered at the moment.
((Still an epic fail but. Better than a sentence xD))
[[Ty had her grading yesterday, and is now a white-yellow belt! Whoot! No longer the lowest possible belt! xD
Which reminds Ty. Did she ever tell Kira why she called the howl the 'Yamei' howl? o 3o]]
Tenebrae was more comfortabe in the eerie silence that descended after the howling stopped, but something made him miss it. It had ended so slowly, in the end, but it seemed to have been there one minute, gone the next. He still kept his ears pricked, swiveling them round upon his head, but couldn't hear anything. It was as if the other weres in the courtyard wanted the silence to last forever, like everyone was holding their breath; not even a breath of wind blew to disturb the perfect silence.
Tenebrae, being Tenebrae, was of course elated that there was no noise, and decided whatever had just happened, he would be happy if it was used more often. It was a rare occurance that an entire courtyard full of weres could be quiet. ~~~~ Skellig was silent for a moment, dissapointed the beautiful melody had ended. It hadn't ended all at once, but one of the howls had dropped out first, and he'd missed it as soon as it was gone. Something about the Yamei howl worried him, though. He wasn't sure what kind of a wolf could be strong enough to have a howl that loud and effective, let enough the fact that there must have been at least two of them. What if there were more than two? What if they weren't really earth-wolves at all, but aliens come to call their clones back to them? Was this why all the weres were gathered here? Were were-wolves really descended from aliens from other planets, and were they being taken home...? Such were the thoughts that ran through Skellig's head where, for the briefest of moments, there had been calm and serenity. ~~~~ Shaunie took a deep breath and glanced over at Serena a moment, before looking around at all the other weres. Motionless. Watching. Waiting. ''Many- if not all of you- know who we are.'' She began, her voice cool and clear, surprising even the alphess herself. ''I am Shaunie, the daughter of the alpha of Northern Moon Tribe.'' She paused after that, giving Serena a chance to introduce herself, so she wouldn't seem too over-bearing or anything. ~~~~ Lucia, though she wouldn't admit it, was afraid. The power of those howls was undeniable, but it was just as obviously a dangerous ability. The fact that the two responsible for it were Alpha's did nothing to ease her restless mind; Alpha's weren't always trustworthy, even if most of them were, and one of those was an Alpha she didn't even know.
Well now. I should... Probably put something intelligent here. At some point. Eventually. ... ... Screw it. HYE. ♥
((Congrazzles! xD And no, Trulykins never mentioned it. Do tell. :D))
Krael closed his eyes as he enjoyed the quiet state that enveloped the courtyard, and the werewolves within. He wasn't usually one to sit still or even be quiet, but the Yamei howl, and the silence that followed, had lulled him into a calm that was quite pleasant.
So it was with great reluctance that he once more opened his eyes to listen to a voice that echoed loudly through the courtyard. It was the voice of his Alpha, but even so it was strange to hear her like this. She was so sure of her self, and so obviously in charge that even Krael wouldn't dare oppose her. Not that she hadn't been sure of herself and in charge before, but somehow it was different now. It seemed impossible to Krael that she and him were nearly the same age.
Without consciously deciding to, Krael sat up straighter in pride at the mention of his pack's name.
~~~
Damien heard the words that Shaunie spoke, but it was like they were in another language. Something deep inside him reluctantly acknowledged that what she said was somehow important, but for the most part he didn't care. In fact, he was slightly annoyed by the fact that she was talking when Serena could be instead. What if Shaunie had interrupted something Serena had been about to say, and now she had decided she wouldn't bother, so nobody would ever get to hear it? What if-
Damien stopped himself, forcing himself to think rationally. It's fine. Look, Serena is still going to talk. I can even see by the way she's looking at Shaunie like she's asking her approval before she says anything. Like she needs to ask her.
Damien was surprised by the way he was thinking. Any other time he would have loved to see two 'enemy' Alphesses side by side, talking to their packs together. But he was still convinced that anything Serena said or did right now was the most important thing that would happen in his lifetime, and he didn't want Shaunie to ruin that.
~~~
"And I am Serena, daughter of Southern Star Tribe Alpha." Serena said to the werewolves.
Then she paused to allow Shaunie to continue speaking. It was best, she thought, to take turns in speaking like that so they would appear completely equal.
~~~
Lore felt a strange sensation when Shaunie spoke. It was as though her words had touched his very soul, if such a thing did in fact exist.
He waited, willing her to continue speaking.

[[Asdd. -hits self on head- Yamei is what we say at kickboxing when Sensei wants us to 'stop and listen', it's literal translation. I'm not sure how it's spelt properly, but it's pronounced 'yam-ay'.]] Tenebrae closed his eyes, the sound of Serena's voice filling his mind. She was his alpha, and so if she was calm, he must be, too. As the Omega, whatever his superiors felt, he should make himself feel, no matter how strange such a thought might have been under normal circumstances. With the Yamei howl, nothing that seemed normal was any more, and for some reason, he was fine with that. ~~~~~ Skellig was now spending every moment trying to catch the weres out, trying to look for signs that they weren't really earthly at all, but were martians or something. When he didn't see any antennae or spaceships in the distance, he reconsidered his theory, oblivious to boththeir words for the most part. Perhaps they were from earth to begin with, but they still weren't completely normal. What if they were escaped lab experiments, and had super powers and stuff, and were able to do things no other werewolf could do? What if they could shoot lasers from their eyes, spit fire, breathe underwater, explode things just by looking at them, and brainwash people? If they could do all that, they were in trouble. For some reason, whatever effect the Yamei howl had upon other werewolves, it was mostly lost on Skellig. Perhaps it needed an actual mind to work with in order to have any effect. ~~~~~ Shaunie wondered how much more she should say, what she should say, and if her pack would listen. Of course they will, she told herself. They are your pack, after all. ''We are not happy with the way you all have been asking. Pack does not matter. You are all brethren and kin by blood, if you go back far enough.'' She decided that was enough, and waited for Serena. ~~~~~ Serena's words were incredible to Lucia, and she couldn't understand how one person's words, a person she didn't even know, could have such an effect. The power of Alphas really was as incredible as they said it was, then. She'd thought it was just a rumour that they were that much stronger than normal wolves, a rumour made up by the Alphas themselves to defend their positions. Apparently, it wasn't really that much of a rumour.
Well now. I should... Probably put something intelligent here. At some point. Eventually. ... ... Screw it. HYE. ♥

((That's really cool. o.o))
Krael tensed up when Shaunie expressed her disapproval at the behavior of her pack. Why, though? Was she not pleased that the Northern Moon Tribe were so willing to fight to protect their honor? Krael would have thought she'd be proud of her pack. He happened to know that Shaunie, much like the other Northerners, was not a huge fan of their rival pack. Nor should she be. Enemy packs weren't supposed to get along.
All the same, Krael wore a guilty ex pression as he continued to listen to the Alphas.
~~~
((LOL "Perhaps it needed an actual mind to work with in order to have any affect."))
Damien observed the Alphas carefully. The two seemed completely and perfectly balanced with each other. The two enormously powerful wolves were working as one to keep both packs under control. He couldn't help but admire them both.
~~~
"We realize it may be difficult for many of you, seeing as the two packs have viewed each other as enemies for many years, but we implore you to try. No one here can afford to quarrel over petty differences any longer."
Serena decided now was as good a time as ever to really take the plunge. She steeled herself, aware that all eyes were on her.
"So Shaunie and I have agreed upon some new rules that members of both packs will be expected to follow." She looked to Shaunie, figuring that since it was her idea, she should get to explain it.
~~~
Lore still could not get over the power of the Yamei howl. He was grateful that neither Alpha seemed a bad person, for such a tool could surely be dangerous in the wrong hands.
