(Back 100,000 years ago when the Forerunners still possessed the Mantle of responsibility, they were at war with ancient Humans, who, back then, were a technologically advanced space faring race. The Forerunners defeated the humans and restored them to primitive prehistoriuc forms. However the Humans were actually trying to stop the Flood by sterilising the Forerunner planets where the infection had spread. however this weakened the Forerunners causing the flood to almost defeat them. The halo rings were built and ready to be fired by the Librarian. however, her husband, the Didact had another plan. He mutated himself to attempt to beocme immune to the flood virus and made an army of Promethean Knights to combat them. He used a Forerunner weapon called the Composer to harvest Human organic material and turn them into more Prometheans. However the Libraraian did not agree with him harming the Humans, as she cared for them. She shot the Didact and sealed him on the Forerunenr planet Requiem, where he was to remain the only living thing after the Halo rings were fired. However, when Requiem was discovered thousands of years later by Masterchief, the Didact was inadvertedly released and he decided he still didn't like Humans and went about being evil again.)

Rhi darted around corners and down other paths but couldn't shake the bird off her trail. She had to escape before she began to tire. Come on! A crack in the wall, something! Anywhere this bird can't- she cut off mid thought and skidded to a stop as the ground in front of her crumbled away into a white void. She frantically looked around for another route to follow and spotted a narrow gap in the canyon wall. She bolted down it to find it was a dead end. She wouldn't be able to get out before the bird got to the entrance. Trapped... It might not be able to fit in though. She thought grimly. She turned towards the entrance just in time for the bird's talons to wrap around her neck. The bird threw her to the ground and landed heavily on her chest. Her hands shot to her throat and tried to pry its talons away from her neck.
"Stop wasting time!" It ordered in a gravely voice. "We don't have any!"
Rhi continued to tug at its talons. "Let me go!" She yelled.
The bird bent over and flicked its head to the side so she could see one of its yellow eyes. "You'll run."
"Yeah that's kinda the...." Rhi trailed off as she realized the bird wasn't a bird but an elite. Sort of. It wore a polished white bird skull decorated with dried plant material over its head and a long brown cloak edged with feathers. Its limbs and neck were unusually long and its hands and feet ended in talons. "Get off me, freak!" She yelled.
The bird-alien didn't move. "You're one to talk." It pointed out.
Rhi opened her mouth to argue but thought better of it. "True. "
"You've wasted the last of our time." The bird-alien said. "Farewell Rhi."
Rhi yelped as the ground beneath her disintegrated into the white void. The bird-alien released her neck and she plummeted. "Help!" She cried as its cloak unfurled into wings.
"You told me to let you go!" It called as the void swallowed her.
Rhi woke with a start.
