Jasmine Brogan was in the form of a palomino mare. She was bored. There was nothing to do. She broke into a canter, startling a rabbit as she did so.
She stopped in the middle of the field, pausing to eat a flower that was covered in drops of morning dew. |

Jessamine watched the horse, faintly smiling. She thought Jasmine was from a neighbor's field, but none had farms. Jessamine decided to investigate. Jessamine walked up to Jasmine, watching her graze.

A loud screech of the nearby birds pierced the silence of the woods to the slight east. A fire had burst out into the forest. Suddenly a loud roar was heard in the woods from the west. A creature on four legs was rushing towards the eastern woods. Flames could be seen covering his spines on his back. Black horns could be seen over the top of his head and on the sides of his face. His scaly skin was violet with a rainbowish hue. On the skin were numerous marking that seemed to glow like flames made from Cursed Blazed-Blood Rubies. The creature then rushed right into the flames of the woods. Soon after the Beast rushed into the flames, the fire that was burning through the trees, slowly began to be extinguished and die out. And where the flames ravaged the trees, already new plant life were suddenly growing.

Jessmine sighed, but looked up at the forest. It was strange. The overgrowth was reaching four feet out of the woods and she had seen a dark shadow moving inside. She almost insisted on herself to 'say' something with her signs.

Jasmine did not reveal her true form, and instead decided to play along with what this girl thought. Just a little more time and then Jasmine would either speak or shapeshift again.
Whether or not the girl could reply with words or not was unknown at that time. And although it was silly, Jasmine could have sworn that she could only 'read' sign language in certain forms; Harpy, Golden Orb Weaver Spider, and any species of whale or dolphin. Basically, she could understand sign-language in the 'more intelligent' forms, so why she could understand it in the form of an arachnid was beyond her. |

Jasmine concluded that she would have to reveal her true self. She would have to take another form that could read sign language better than the form of a palomino mare. The 'Can you read' signs were just about the only ones, in her current form, that she understood. She decided to speak.
"I can read, and can understand signs, but only in a few of my forms." Jasmine said, registering the surprise on the girl's face. "Oh, I forgot to mention that I am a Shapeshifter. Sorry if I scared you." She took a step backwards.
"Which form would you rather I take?" she asked. "Harpy or Golden Orb Weaver Spider? Ordinarily I'd prefer shifting into the form of a dolphin or whale to understand signs, but seeing as there's no ocean or lake around here my options are limited." |

Jessamine jumped backward, moving her hand around her neck as if searching for a voice. She stared at Jasmine. How could a horse talk? But then she remembered she was a shape shifter. Of course she could talk.
