As much as he wanted to slit his own throat at the moment, as much as he felt like the most terrible person in the world, Claire was just brushing his apologies off. On his back now, Severin stared up at Claire through tear-filled eyes, his head in her lap. His lower lip quivered, like he was a little kid again, but he'd always cried like that. "Another reason to dislike crying," he always thought.

Severin's fingers reached for something, anything, but he only felt gr*censored*, dirt, and concrete. Nothing he could really hold onto, but he held onto the gr*censored*. Throughout that little episode, his eyes never strayed, keeping Claire's gaze in his own. "I'm sorry, " he repeated, pursing his lips for a moment. He knew his lip was quivering. "and I do love you, I swear."

Clearing his throat audibly, Severin blinked his overflowing eyes, causing tears to run a path down his face. He blinked out more tears, then hesitantly raised a hand to his face, wiping it off with the back of his palm. Letting out a deep rush of air, he closed his eyes. His thick eyelashes were wet with tears, which he promptly tried to get off, too. The tears he'd been wiping away were just as foreign to him as his apologizes were to Claire. Just barely coming to acknowledge that he'd been crying, Severin suddenly felt out of place. And the feeling fell down on him like he was being forced to hold the world up.

Severin stood up, taking Claire's hand and pulling her up to her feet as well. "Let's go inside," he said quickly, opening the door and moving her inside. He closed the door behind the both of them, and exhaled heavily, causing his body to shudder slightly.

"Claire?" Severin said quietly, putting an arm on the door and laying his forehead on it. He turned his neck ever so slightly, so he could get a peek at Claire through his hair. "Will you kiss me?"

Severin sighed in relief. She still kissed him. That was obviously good. He turned around, making sure not to move Claire away too much, and hugged her to himself. His arms were tight around her, as if he were afraid that if let go, she'd either leave or fall. Tears were already stinging his eyes again, but he blinked them away. He wouldn't cry, not when he had Claire in his arms.

Forcing himself to relax, Severin took a deep breath and loosened his arms around Claire, setting his chin on her shoulder. After standing like that for some time, Severin turned his head just enough to kiss Claire's cheek, allowing his eyes to close when he did. He shifted so he was further away from her, but still close enough for comfort, and kissed his way from her cheek to her lips. This, he took care to do slowly. "I love you." he murmured on her lips.

The sudden, unexpected affection Severin was giving made Claire smile, she couldn't help it. It was rare, which made it even better when it did happen. She placed her hands on his hips, pushing her middle fingers through his belt loops. As her eyes fluttered close, she considered what would happen if Calamity came back now. She decided she didn't care, replying "I love you, too," into his lips.

Claire may not know why Severin was acting this way, but she wasn't going to stop him. There were so many times she wished he was more.. well, more like this. But every time she reminded herself she was pefectly happy with him how he was. And, honestly, she had grown to be.

Lips parting slightly, Severin took a soft breath in through said lips, pressing his forehead against Claire's. He slowly shifted his weight from one leg to another, holding their hips together by keeping his arms wrapped around Claire's waist. At this point, he was hoping that Calamity wasn't going to come back anytime soon. He wanted Claire for himself, to hold tight and kiss and constantly tell her he loved her. Just to let her know that he'd missed her the time he was away and that he would continue to while he was gone.

Because he already knew that he had to go back. But, for one day – Claire's birthday – he'd stay. Most likely, the next day would be the day of his departure.

Even though it seemed like the world was moving around her in slow-motion, things were moving too fast for Claire to understand. She traced the shape of Severin's lower lip with her tongue, which ended up in his mouth. She loved the feeling of closeness, and now that she got it back she refused to let it go. Since there really was no possible way to get any closer, she took a hand off of his hip and pushed it into his hair instead.

There was some song playing in Claire's head, but she couldn't figure out which over all of her other thoughts. One of those was, of course, What if he isn't staying? She quickly dismissed that thought, focusing on the next and what the answer was. Does he want to stay? Here? In this house? With me?

His mind continued to wander as his lips moved with Claire's, eyes closed now despite the slight fear of opening her eyes and no longer seeing her. Claire had always been affectionate to him. She'd always wanted to be close to him, always wanted to sleep pressed up against him so there was absolutely no space between them. She literally pestered him for attention, as if she were a lonely kitten. However, Severin never liked being too affectionate. If Claire were to cuddle up against him, he'd turn his head away and pretend she wasn't there. It wasn't often that he noticed what he was doing, so it wasn't often that he felt bad for doing such things, too. Things just went like that for him.

However, now, Severin was feeling all the remorse of being so cold to her. When he felt her hand in his hair, he realized that he never really did that to her, like he knew he should have. He never really kissed her on his own, held her just because, complimented her when he took she looked nice, and barely greeted her except with the occasional "Hi," or acknowledging look.

Claire considered removing her lips from Severin's, but she decided against it. If she did, she'd wish she hadn't later that night when she'd snuggle up close to him and he'd tell her to 'move, or sleep on the couch'. She knew that no matter how much she wanted to kiss him or snuggle with him instead of sleep, he'd hate the idea atlest twice as much as she liked it.

Forgetting Calamity should be back soon, Claire hoped Severin had, too. If he hadn't he'd reply to her next move with wide eyes and an 'Are you crazy!?'. She didn't mind, though, she'd take the risk. And, although she murmured "My room," Against his lips, she made no attempt to move from where she stood.

When Severin opened his eyes, Claire was clinging to him. Severin sighed softly, shifting carefully so he wouldn't wake up Claire. He pushed her away, grabbing his now-dry clothing and tugging it on. Looking back at his girlfriend, he sighed. I really don't want to wake her up. he thought to himself, blinking his stinging eyes quickly.

He just didn't want to deal with a good-bye. After all, he'd already said one before. Although he tried his best to keep it from seeming like it, it was terribly difficult for him to part with Claire. Severin didn't want to have to go through that again.

Now he needed to leave again. This time, there would be no difficult good-byes.

When Claire woke up, she was a bit unaware of her surroundings. She was still in her bed, still in her room. But there was no Calamity and no Severin, so was yesterday just a dream? Her sudden nausea answered for her. Morning sickness..? Claire sat up with a groan, slowly pulling clothes on. Dragging her feet, she made her way to the  living room, clutching her stomach the whole way.

Claire flopped onto the couch, stomach first. She rolled her head to the side before reaching for her phone from the coffee table. Not in the mood to actually talk, she texted Calamity, hoping he would reply quickly. Where are you? Where's Severin?

"Sh.itfu.ck."

Severin's head snapped up. Behind the reinforced, bullet-proof acryllic, a few guards jumped to attention. Of course, one of them cocked a gun. In a room where all sound echoed, it wasn't a surprise that Severin heard it. He shot a glare at the guard. What, do they think I'm going to go Hulk and break through these walls? he thought irritably.

"What is it?" Severin asked, turning back to Calamity. He held the phone that allowed him to communicate with Calamity to his ear.

"Your despaired girlfriend," Calamity sighed out. I had to bring him back... I'm at PSYCHO still, by the way. It'll be some time 'fore I come back. They won't be supplying me with a speed boat this time around. Guess I'm not as important as getting a prisoner back.

"What did you just tell her?" Severin asked, standing up. He ignored the guards, clutching the phone he had in his hand tightly. Unless Calamity had lied, whatever he had said was like poison, he just knew it. Although Severin wasn't the kind of guy to throw a fit over a text message, he felt a scream forming at the back of his throat. The kind that made him want to throw that fit that another person might have, but not him. Not him, because he needed to stay dead to the world. Being away from Claire wouldn't be so bad if he did.

Calamity's eyes slid over to look into Severin's own dull pair. "Well... The truth." His gaze flickered back down to his phone, which was still trying to retrieve Claire's message. There was crappy reception in the visiting room. Finally, it came through.

Severin got closer to the acryllic that separated him from his brother. "What did she say?" he asked, trying to see the message himself.

"Chill," Calamity said, earning a hard glare form Severin. Calamity's own eyes clearly expressed irritation, which made Severin back off. "She's asking how long you're gonna be here... What do I tell her?"

With a sigh, Severin answered, "Just tell her."

Fourteen months... Less if he behaves. Calamity sent back, and then he held his phone up in order to get some reception.

Claire's heart dropped. She knew there was no way to stop it. She already knew it, so she accepted it. But, really, she wanted to scream, and she would when they hung up the phone. Over a year without him. She'd be 19 when he got back, she may not be living in the same place. So much could change without having him for a year. More than a year. Please, just tell him one thing for me? She didn't want to risk waiting for the replies and having Severin have to go, so she just added it. ..Tell him I love him. A lot, and no matter how long he's gone, I still will. I'll still be here, waiting for him. And nothing bad he does will ever change that.

When she had re-read the message three times and knew she was happy with it, she sent it. She picked her nails while she waited for a reply, and wondered how Severin felt. It was him getting imprisoned, after all.

Calamity's eyebrow twitched slightly, as if with interest. Usually, Severin wasn't so attuned to something so little, but he caught this immediately. "What?" he asked, trying to look at Calamity's cell phone. "What did she say?"

"You can go ahead and read it on your own," Calamity told him, pushing his phone against the acryllic. "I'm not reading this aloud." In fact, he really shouldn't have read it all. The message was meant for Severin, but it had to go through Calamity first to get to him... And, to him, that was just wrong.

"Tell her..." Severin blinked his eyes, glassy with threatening tears. "I don't know." He sat down, pinching the bridge of his nose. His head was hurting. "Tell her I love her too."

He seems at loss for words... But, he says he loves you, too.

Claire sighed, clutching her phone tight. She hadn't figured she'd get a heartfelt reply, so what he said was fine.

Claire had worried about herself for thirty-one days, it was time to worry about someone else. How's he doing? ..When're you gonna be able to come back? Subliminally, she was thinking of herself again, because she wanted Calamity's company.

Twisting a piece of hair around her pointer-finger and middle finger, Claire dropped her phone beside her. She was sick of waiting for him. At that moment, she had hoped he'd just sit for as long as he needed to and not try to pull anything that would make him have to sit for longer. But she was sure she wouldn't feel that way soon. She probably wouldn't feel that way by the time Calamity responded.
