Ryu was surprised by his own question. Not because of the question itself, but that was pretty much how their whole day started. He was just getting water when she appeared to be heading that direction too. He remembered looking at her with wide eyes, afraid that she might be a human. His hood was pulled over he head and over his eyes pretty much. After figuring out she was dryad, or at least different, he had walked down the slope and past her before he stopped.
Are you coming?
Harmless. The words were so harmless and yet, she had hesitated to even look at him, let alone want to follow him. She looked scared, frightened, confused. She seemed about ready to just run or walk away, not even answering him. When she started to walk silently next to him, he didn't know what would happen. She was a frightened person, dryad. He couldn't help but think about that morning.
Now. Now she walked up to him with confidence. She wasn't scared of him or even best stand to follow him into the heart of danger. It was something he never thought would come when they first met. He couldn't help a small smile as it spread across his face. He shook his head and followed her down the hill and towards the village square. He didn't know what they were walking into, but if it came to it. He'd keep her safe. If not out of friendship, then out of pure insentive to keep another dryad safe.

Rue walked, slowly at first, being cautious and only focusing on Ryu's body heat next to her. She kept her dark eyes low beneath her black eyelashes as she took each heart pounding step closer to civilization. They walked and walked, Rue being only a step or so ahead of Ryu, leading the way to a vague and unpleasant memory. It was sheer impulse that kept her going, and it was both a frightening and exciting emotion that was fairly new to Rue. She knew that when she was younger she was impulsive, but somewhere along the way to adulthood, she had lost it. But now, now she was regaining her childhood personality, and she liked it.
The nerves inside Rue's body started to get a little jittery, for they had entered civilization. Every now and then she would steal small glances at Ryu to see if he was still next to her even though she could still feel his familiar body heat next to her. As they walked further and further, and closer and closer, to the heart of civilization, Rue's hands started to move more frequently. She was scared and she couldn't help herself, her hands would drum against her thigh and at times she would clench and un-clench her fists. Once again she stole a glance at Ryu and slowed her pace so she was walking evenly next to him. Under her breath she said to him, "We just have to follow this road straight and we should be there."

Ryu looked at the pathway from under his hood. How many times had he travelled down this path only to run back this same way when he was beaten and bloody? He count count anymore and for the love of all that is good, the wounds still stung. They brought back memories. The scrapes on his knees from when they push his down, spouting horrible names and obscenities of all kinds. They would trip him if he tried getting away so that they could all have a turn to harm him in some way. He could feel his knees burning at that memory. The pain moved up to his thighs and stomach. He remembers being stabbed once in the thigh by a teenaged kid who was having their first attack on a.... What did they call him? Monster... Death on legs.... Cursed.... Creature... He couldn't remember everything. He remembered the look of disgust the boy's parent gave him. The kid was smiling like he'd done good. The father smirking proudly.
Ryu shivered and felt like his legs would give out on him. He breathed in shakily and started his way down the path, his cloak gently swaying with his steps. He could feel the earth shifting under his shoes as he walked and he could feel pebbles slipping from under his crushing feet. Every little crunch of a rock and grate of a rock sliding on the earth sent a chill down his spine. He remembered how if felt to have a rock grate against his skin and the earth below. His hands throbbed with unseen pain. The scars on his fingers we starting to burn like they were being reopened, slowly. They would dig their feet into his back and on his hands so he couldn't get away from their vengeance. Their heeled shoes dug into his spine and his sides. Their steel toed boots digging little grooved into the back of his hands as he struggled to get free. It was painful and they scars were a constant reminder to him to stop going into the village in broad daylight.
His chest stung. The one long scar that went from his right shoulder to his left rib was stinging. He didn't even remember how that one got their, but this dirt road was a place where he had memories. Bad ones. His feet slowed in their steps and soon he was barely moving at all. His steps were hesitant and his breathing was slightly erratic. He couldn't stop the memories from flooding back to him and hitting him with all the emotional turmoil he felt during those days. He couldn't help himself when he grabbed his arms and hugged himself, dropping to his knees as well. All the emotion and memories. Running up this road back to his little cabin to avoid another knife, another rock, another piece of rock that they happened to find.

People were starting to stare at the grown boy who was huddled in a ball on the busy, dirt road. Suspicion started to rise and the air grew thick with some sort of energy. Tension? Maybe, but not quite, it felt more familiar and cold. Despite? That would have been a good guess, but it was a little more spine crawling and there was not so much recognition in the energy than confusion. The energy was discomforting and made Rue nauseated. From below her dark eye lashes she could see, just barely, all of the humans and their nasty expressions. That is when it hit her. The feeling in the air, the strange energy that seemed to be floating about her, it wasn't energy at all, it was memories that had been forgotten, intentionally or by trauma, and they were starting to seep in the corners of her mind. Rue had been too excited and too nervous, maybe even too comfortable to notice her memories on the way into the heart of town, but now, now that she had a moment to stop, and everything became clear. Pictures flashed in front of her hidden eyes and her head throbbed with a life time of horrible memories. The humans that maneuvered around them were a blur and the noise all around her seemed far away. Was this how Ryu felt?
Meow. The pictures stopped, the throbbing died down, time seemed to slow and the humans were visible and the noise was booming. Rue looked down at Kuma who was perched on Ryu's shoulder. A smile spread across her face, for Rue found it funny that a cat's meow could pull her away from her threatening thoughts. Mentally, she thanked Ryu for bringing him. It was strange that a cat could be so comforting and powerful. She shook her head lightly, as if to rid her mind of the bad memories. For a quick moment, Rue paused to gather her thoughts and strengthen her mind. She had promised herself that she wasn't going to let any harm come to Ryu. It pained her to even think about it, but she had broken her promise. Even if she couldn't stop the harm that came to him mentally, she could sure try to stop it physically.
Rue moved to stand in front of Ryu. She looked down at him, and although he might look like a freak to the humans, she knew that it was much, much more. This wasn't like Ryu at all, and tears swam in Rue's eyes because it hurt her to see him like that. It annoyed her that she should feel so choked up at the sight of him, but she didn't have time to feel angry. For Ryu's sake, she had to be strong. She blinked away the tears as best as she could and crouched down to Ryu's level. For a moment, she was clueless on what to do, but then Rue remembered seeing a mother with her kid while she lingered in the shadows one day. The child was hurt and the mother comforted him by checking his injuries and hugging him. And that was what Rue was going to do, more or less.
She put her hand on Ryu's cheek and lifted his face so she could look into his eyes, though she was careful not to move his hood. Her hand was cupping one of his cheeks, but her thumb moved up and down, almost in a stroking manner. "Hey, hey," She cooed softly and slowly, her eyes as soft as her voice, "I am here, there is no need to be afraid." She didn't know exactly why he was huddled on the ground, but she assumed that it was for the same reason that she almost broke down. "Ryu, I am here and I won't let anybody hurt you. I won't!" She gave him a rare, and soft smile, then she brought her face next to his and rested her head on his shoulder as she embraced him in a hug. "There is no reason to fret, I am here and no one is going to hurt you, we will leave this village one way or another and then no more harm will come to us." She whispered quietly to him. Then, strangely reluctant, she pulled away from him and stood up. "C'mon," she said loud enough to be heard over the crowd. Rue held out a pale hand to him and cocked her head to one side and gesture to the road a head.
She hoped that he would accept her hand soon, because the suspicion rose a lot and people were taking a cautious knife out, or picking up a lose stone. The risk of waiting for him was too much, a boy with a hood on and a girl with her eyes glued to the ground was suspicious enough. Rue needed to do something that would make the humans less nosy and curious. Ryu had said that she could almost pass as human, so she was going to use her subtle Dryad characteristics as an advantage. With a deep breath and building confidence, Rue looked up and met eyes with everyone who was staring for a brief moment, and then gave a small smile to each and everyone of them before bringing her eyes back down to Ryu.

[[Hey guys, sorry about the delay. ;o; Ended up being busy for a lot longer than I thought I would be. </3]]
Aria stood back as Nova stepped right up to the tree, keeping watch. Thankfully, no one was paying too much attention to the two of them. Looking back at her companion, a grin broke across her face. Nova's face was lit up with what looked like awe as he studied the tree. Aria's spirits lifted just watching him. Whatever pain and suffering he'd gone through before was long forgotten in this moment.
As Nova closed his eyes, resuming his act, Aria was hit with a sudden sadness. His eyes, so full of life and wonder a minute ago, were now hidden from the world; from her. She wanted to see that happiness again, but she couldn't; not here, not now. Shaking herself out of her dreary thoughts, she focused on Nova once more. He'd reached out to touch the tree. This gesture worried her, and she would've said something if it weren't for the ex[injection]pression that'd crossed his face. And as Nova's giggle sang in her ears, she knew she couldn't end his happiness so soon.
Taking her eyes off his blissful face, she scanned the village square. Her heart stopped and her blood ran cold as she realized people had started to gather, cross ex[injection]pressions on their faces. They were whispering, voices harsh, and were pointing at the two of them, but they didn't dare come close to the tree. As Nova had said, the tree appeared to be normal, but that didn't mean the villagers weren't afraid of it and didn't change the fact that they were attracting too much attention. Nova, with his eyes closed, was completely unaware of the angry glares and was very much vulnerable at this point. She would not let anyone come close to hurting Nova.
Inching over to his side, keeping her eyes down and voice low, she whispers, "They're starting to notice, Nova. I think it's time for us to go. We won't go far, but we'll have to wait them out." Raising her voice, she says, "Come now, dear, you don't want to go touching that tree. I know it must be hard for you, not being able to see. Let me get you somewhere safer." Taking his hand in hers, she held tight as she led him off into a side street, not looking back until she was sure no one was following them. "Ugh, that was lame," she said as tilted her head back, her hood pressing into the brick wall of a building, and brought a slender hand to her forehead. "I couldn't think of anything else. I'm sorry."

{S'alright. :3 and sorry i haven't replied until now.}
Ryu could feel the stares and glares that were focused, mainly on him at this point. A grown boy kneeling in the dirt road with his arms around himself. Yeah, not normal, whatsoever. He could help the feeling of dread that settled heavily over his body with all the staring. Humans staring was never a good idea when it came to his kind and that wasn't about to change just because he was sobbing, well, almost sobbing, in the middle of the street in front of a good number of people. Sure, he could probably pass it off as some kind of illness that caused him to suddenly collapse, but they wouldn't take sympathy. They would see it as proof that the village was dying out quickly. He couldn't help himself right now and he felt like he was going to have a panic attack.
MEOW! Simple, only one word and it wasn't even a word, more like a noise. It snapped his mind from the metal breakdown he was having. What was that? It sounded very familiar and very much like something he knew. Ryu blinked his eyes a few times before he could finally feel his senses coming back to him. He could feel the dirt under his pants and the rough feeling on something lapping at his face. He blinked again and dropped his hands to his lap. Ryu shook his head a little and reached over to his shoulder before he noticed a hand. A hadn? Outstretched for him? That didn't make any sense, not even now. He sat there for a little longer, unsure of what to do. He followed the hand up an arm, well, sleeve and then up to a face. A face. He recognized her face somehow. He recognized the cat too. Kuma... and... R.. Ri? Ro... Rue. RUE!
Ryu looked at Rue and then around him, making sure his hood was low on his face. He looked at Rue again and stood up from the ground, his knees protesting at the sudden removal of whatever was stuck to his pants. He brushed his pants off and then grasped Rue's hand, pulling her away from the people with a quiet but loud enough "Im sorry" to the villagers that were around. He pushed his way through the crowd and continued his way into the village, where he quickly fled into an alleyway, dragging Rue with him. He looked at her.
"I'm sorry. I could have put us in danger and we could have gotten hurt. I didn't mean to break down like that.."

Slowly, but surely, Ryu snapped back into reality. It was uplifting to see him with a less tortured ex[injection]pression and see recognition wash across his face. She smiled brightly, and was about to say something when Ryu gasped her hand and pulled her along, weaving through bodies of people, of humans. Rue was confused, she wondered where he was taking her. She wondered if he was retreating back to his house, just taking a longer rout. She wondered if maybe he thought they were going back to his sanctuary, but actually getting deeper into the village. Well, if he was retreating, her disappointment would be of the lesser since he remembered to take her with him.
But they weren't retreating at all, just getting into a less crowded and a tad bit safer area. Into an alleyway they went. Once they were in, Ryu looked at Rue, she felt as if his green eyes bore into his. It made her strangely uncomfortable, not like it had back at the house. She lowered her dark eyes again, and found his hand clasping her. She listened to his apology, but her attention was focused on their jointed hands. Her face started to turn a shade of scarlet, and even though she wanted to pull away, her arm felt like it was made of lead. Her attempts of getting away was mentally, and pathetic.
Rue shook her head at his apology. In attempt to distract herself from her scarlet face, she looked up. This sight didn't make her feel much better either. She spoke slowly and carefully, biting her tongue every time she was about to say something harsh, "...The only thing that matters is that we are both safe now." Bite, "I know what you must have been feeling, I, myself felt like breaking down." Bite, "There is no need to apologize, I would have protected you one way or another." She said the last part quietly and quickly. Then, in a rush, she added, "We should wait out the chaos in here. I am sure everyone is curious at this moment, and going out there will only cause us trouble." She was staring at him, lost in his bright green eyes, she didn't want to be mad, but she couldn't help herself.

Geonova felt the tree, feelings like none other washed over him and he was calm. It felt good to be near the tree and it just felt natural. He didn't want to leave the tree now that he got to feel what it's like. He smiled slightly wider but that fell as soon as he felt himself being forcefully taken away from the tree. The rough bark no longer under hand palm and the scraping of said bark not longer present on his skin. His smile faded quickly, but he could finally feel a lot of stares on him and Aria. So, that's what it was... He hadn't heard her say anything like that. He allowed himsefl to be taken awy, though he wasn't all that happy about it and ended up being a little mad.
Nova looked at Aria when they were out of range, his eyes opening. "It's fine. It's not like they were going to have pity on us if they saw what we were." He kept his voice low and his head was lwo too, his eyes were adjusting to the light, so he didn't want to face the sun right now. He watched the fdirt groudn pass as they walked and suddenly, he stopped. he didn't want to leave, but he didn't wanna stay. He looked at Aria. "You know, aria.. Uh, those people, thanks for getting me out of there.."
