The boy tried to conceal his splendiferous hair, but it was too late, Rue had already seen what he was. And when this boy looked at her, it was as if he was also seeing what she was, however his skittish moves said otherwise. She wondered when he would glean that she was part dryad too. That he didn't have anything to be afraid of.
Then suddenly, the boy started to walk towards her and Rue froze, tensing up as she did. The mystery of what the boy was doing got her on her toes. If her came any closer to her, she didn't know what she would do, or what he would do for that matter. Yet again, this was a first time in a long time that anyone has gave some noticed to her so she was awestruck. But then, taking her by surprise once more, he stopped. He was now close enough that if they both put their arms out they could touch, or almost touch.
Rue's breathing got heavy as he watched her from under his hood. They stood their watching each other for a short while. The autumn flecks in her eyes yearned to be revealed. However it wasn't her eyes that got revealed, it was his hair, once again.
A gush of cold autumn wind pushed his hood down, and his vibrant white hair now waved at the world. Rue's eyes watched his hair, and stared at its beauty. The sun gave it a illuminating glow that she just adored. But aside from its natural beauty, Rue had a bigger problem, the boy.
She didn't know how to get rid of him. Each moment they stood in silence, the sun was on its way up to the heavens, meaning that the villagers will be up and about soon. Rue dropped her eyes to the boys face, and into his eyes she stared. Her hollow eyes carried a blank ex pression as she studied his pale green ones. She noticed the dark green border around his iris, but she could stand here studying him all day, she had things to do... like hide in the shadows.
With a swift eye movement, Rue shot her attention to his hair for a split second and then back down to his eyes. Her ex pression went unchanging, and then, with a hesitant and uncertain move, she shifted her pale face so it was warmed by the sun. Her eyes left his and now she stared off to the horizon, though she kept an eye on his movement with her peripheral vision.

Aria screamed... loud. She sat bolt upright, breathing hard. She definitely got to escape her life for a while, but lived one that was much, much worse.
Her dream was of complete chaos. There was fire and smoke everywhere, blocking her view, numbing her thoughts, but nothing could stop her from hearing the screams – the screams of agony that broke her simple heart in two. Standing in the midst of the hungry fire, smoke filled her lungs, the fire licked at her exposed skin and the screams filled her ears without end.
"Come on, Daniella, we must leave now."
The voice had come from a man, who was now tugging on her arm, trying to lead her out of the fire. She wasn't sure how he could see through all the smoke and flames, but the man managed to weave between the burning foliage, half-dragging Aria along with him. It felt like they've been running for hours, Aria's life slowly slipping from her... And suddenly, she was falling and could no longer feel the man's hand on her arm. As she lands on the burning grass, a pain shoots through her body – a pain so great, nothing in Aria's abusive street life came close to comparing. As the flames ate away at her, it was impossible to form a single sane thought. Aria had no choice but to grab onto a low branch (not feeling any difference as she curled her fingers around the flames consuming the branch) and pick herself up before the fire ate her alive. Now that she was once again on her feet, she searches the ground, trying to figure out what tripped her. At first, she thought the cause of her fall was a rather thin log, but on closer examination... she realizes it was not a log, but a body. Aria jerks back from her crouch and takes off, going anywhere, as long as it took her away from the body.
"Daniella? Answer me, Daniella!"
The pain in his voice was obvious, and it broke her heart, but with all the other screams still ringing in her ears, she couldn't tell where his voice was coming from or how far away he was. And with the unbearable pain she felt from head to toe, she could not find it within herself to answer him. And Aria was just about ready to collapse when she felt arms suddenly embrace her.
"Oh, Daniella. I- if I lost-," the man choked between sobs. He buried his face into her scorched hair, quiet sobs raking through his body.
"Come, on," she said softly, "we need to get out of here."
Taking his hand in hers, she pulls ahead of him and urges him along as she squints through the smoke and flames, trying to find any indication of an opening. And before they've even taken five steps, his hand is ripped from hers and a loud crash bombards her ears. Aria whips her head around, and she sees that not two meters away, an ancient tree had collapsed... right on top of the young man. And that's when she screamed.
Back in reality, Aria could not get that last moment out of her head, and when she closed her eyes, she could see the man's death all over again, in crystal clear detail. Tears streamed down her face as she starts to sob uncontrollably for this man who died to save 'Daniella'. He'd come back for her, and ended up squished forever under that burning tree. And then, one truly heartbreaking realization comes to Aria...
She didn't even know his name.

Ryu stood there and watched the girl from under his hood until the wind blew his hood off, revealing his snowy locks to the world. The wind making the sun reflect off his hair in a way that seemed to make it look like the dew on the grass. He tried to grab his hood, but he couldn't quite reach that with the pitcher in his arms. He held the pitcher, and when he looked up into her eyes, he could see an oddness to them. Something that wasn't human entirely. He blinked his own eyes and looked at the girl. Nothing seemed odd about her on teh outside, but her eyes made him feel like she wasn't entirely human. It bugged him, but then again, it's something he needed.
Understanding hit him and he gave a small gasp. She wasn't human, or at least fully. His voice failed him as he tried to form words. His throat was a bit dry and his brain was still in shock from what hewas seeing. The way she looked at him, she didn't seem entirely comfortable, but there was no gain without risk. He tried to speak again but all that came out was a small squeak and a breath of air. He hadn't seen another dryad in, well, since he discovered his own heritage. He blieved he was the only dryad kid around that any rumors going around about others were from other villages around. He looked at her up and down then focused back on her eyes.
He managed to clear his throat softly and ran a hand through his hair. "Y-You're Dryad... aren't you?" He managed to get out. His throat a tad dry but it was still from shock of meeting another dryad. The only thing he ever wanted was for someone out there to be like him, to be dryad. But then, realization hit him again. She suffered at the hands of the people of the village. It hurt him a bit for having to know what the girl was suffering at. He felt like he should saying something else. "You suffered at their hands, like i have. They've hurt you..." He blinked and continued to focus on her.

Rue's eyes watched the sun intensely as silence still sounded. For some reason this guy wasn't budging, he wasn't going anywhere. It annoyed her that he was just... just, watching her. She wondered what he wanted, since she clearly gave him free passage to around her. The longer she felt his eyes on her, the more insecure she got. It was as if he was seeing right through her in this morning sun.
Rue was pondering on the thought of just walking away when she heard a voice. It took her a minute to realize that the question the voice carried was directed towards her. Her heart started to beat fast and her eyes grew big, her mouth slightly agape. There hasn't been a time in her life where she was actually talked to. Rue tore her eye away from the sun and quickly scowled at the boy. She didn't know why she decided to scowl, though it was probably due to the fact that she felt like her life was getting revealed in one simple question. Or it could have been because her whole face lit up in red when she realized that he was talking to her.
After she scowled she shifted her gaze back towards the horizon. Usually at a time like this Rue would just walk away. This time, however, was different. Different how? She wasn't quite sure, but it had to do with him. And when he spoke again, Rue dropped her eyes to the ground. The scowl that had just stained her face was now washed away with mourn. What he was saying was true. They have hurt her. It wasn't always the physical hurting she had to endure, but mentally she was scared by these villagers. Rue lifted her sad black eyes, and met his eyes. She was still inclined to silence, but she gave him a slight nod and a weak smile.

((um, alright Eternity... And cal me Ru. Shorter. I guess i'll post.))
RYU
The girl didn't speak, nor did she make any kind of noise to confirm his fears. All she did was nod and that scared him even more because who knew if she could even talk. Maybe the village had damaged her vocal cords as they tried to his once. He subconsiously placed a hand on his neck and rubbed a little, remembering that day very clearly. It made him shudder to think they might have done that to this girl. A girl for that matter! Nobody should harm a girl no matter what race. He hissed under his breath and looked at the ground, not wanting to frighten her. He noticed his shadow had started to let shorter already.
Hiseyes shot up to teh girl as his head snapped up at teh sudden realization. They were just standing there. In teh middle of the hill where anybody could see them. It wasn't safe for either of them. Oh bless this day because they were goingt o need a bucket of luck to get out of this one. He knew villagers would be rising soon. "They hurt you and will do so again if they see you out here.... Do... How to say this..." He rubbed the back of his neck and grabbed his hood, pulling it firmly over his head, hiding any trace of snowy hair and cast his face with shadow. "Do you want to remain at my little.... hideout... until the sun has set? Or you don't have to leave.. Yes, this is sudden as I've just met you, well, seen you around."
He could hear the sounds of a distand bell ringing and he knew exactly whereit came from. The breadmaker was usually first up to make his morning dough, hwich wasshort coming due to them not being able to leave. He hissed under his breath again and walked past teh girl beofre stopping an arms length behind her. "You coming? Or did you want to find another shadow to hide in?"

The bell reaced his ears as well and Nova jumped, knowing that soon after this person was up, more would be soon waking. He hissed to himself and the cat in his hood gave a soft meow before it bumped its head against Nova's. Nova reached back and pat teh cat's head. "We gotta get outta here little guy..." He tunred on his heel adn headed back towards that cabin he foundteh cat in.

[[Maybe Nova can run into Eternity's character and meet up with Rue and Ryu later. Nova and Aria (if they meet up) could even run into Rue and Ryu after crossing the cursed border, or something like that.]]
They stood in silence as Rue's mind wandered, though her eyes stayed glued to the earth. She kept playing his words over and over in her mind. It was strange, to her, that someone had actually talked to her, and in a kind way for that matter. Even though she scowled at him, she yearned for him to speak to her like that again. Although, the feeling of yearning made her feel uncomfortable, since it was a new feeling.
But Rue didn't have to long for his words any more. He spoke again. Though the point he was getting to seemed sort of rash. But he seemed to notice it because he gave her an option of it she wanted to go with him. Rue saw this as the perfect time to just walk away, declining his offer, however right when she was about to leave, the morning bell assaulted her ears. Rue's heart stopped along with her intentions.
The snowy-haired boy walked right past her and stopped somewhere close behind her. He spoke again, a question lingering in the air between them. Her back was still turned towards him as she tried to think, though she knew they were running out of time. She didn't want this boy to get hurt by the villagers if she kept him waiting for so long, but she needed her time to think.
Her thoughts whirled in her mind. One part of her wanted to be isolated from everyone, and the other part remember her thoughts prior to meeting him, and felt the longing of his caring words. Rue thought and thought and thought. To her it felt like hours of thinking and trying to decide which part of her won the war that raged within, but in actuality, it was only a minute or so. And after that agonizing minute, Rue spun on her heels was faced in the direction the boy was heading. Hesitant, she walked up along side of him and stopped waiting for him to lead the way. Still inclined to silence, Rue studies the ground, her face still showing the color of embarrassment from the whole situation.

It’d felt like a lifetime had passed before Aria had finally stopped the tears. Something about not knowing something as simple as the man’s name tore her apart. She’d watched him die and didn’t know his name.
Rubbing her red, swollen eyes, she looks around at the still-quiet village. To her left, are the dark village shops, including the bakery, and a handful of empty vending stalls, and to her right, past the massive tree growing in the very center of the village, the sun is creeping its way farther and farther from the horizon. Before she knows it, Aria would be smack in the middle of one of the busiest streets if she didn’t go hide soon.
After dusting herself off and getting herself ready to go, Aria comes to realize she hasn’t had anything to eat in a looong while, and that if she planned on eating today, she’d have to find something right now. Peeking over her shoulder every few seconds, Aria quickly headed over to the bakery. Making sure she stayed away from the bakery’s front window, she made her way around back and headed straight for the dumpster. She figured she’d have the best luck finding food back here, seeing as though the villagers would not dream of touching food that’s more than a day old, meaning lots of food would have been thrown out, and well, if your customers wouldn’t eat it, why keep it? Though Aria couldn’t imagine why the villagers would throw out such good food, she figured it had to do with this “deadline” she hears everyone talking about. Hiding in the shadows allows for Aria to listen in on many conversations. Though she doesn’t understand most of what they were saying, she kept hearing the word “deadline.” And she saw a pattern in their faces too. They’d be scrunched up and red, or pale and leaky. Maybe they thought their food got too yucky if you didn’t eat it fast. Aria couldn’t tell, but she was not one to complain for she was perfectly fine with the meals the picky villagers have provided. Most of the time, she’d find perfectly good food (in her eyes anyway) laying in the dark alleys she chooses to hide in.
Just as Aria got the heavy dumpster lid open, a loud clanging exploded in her ears. Clamping her hands over her ears, Aria takes off running, very, very afraid.

((Actually, that would make sense since Nova's heading to some cabin and it's a little ways from the village.))
RYU
He waited there for her, giving her any amount of time she needed to answer his question. It was odd for someone you just met only a few minutes ago to ask you to hide away with them. It was something right out of a bad romance novel. It kind of disturbed him that he had even asked her, but he knew he could leave her there. It'd be like throwing a rabbit in a pit of starved wolves. The options and the time wer against him at the moment. There were people waking up and he could tell by the sound of shutters slamming open from windows and wodden crates being dropped with supplies, heavy supplies. He winced and remembered the time he had one of those thrown at him. He shook his head.
He bwas a bit suprised when teh girl walked up next to him andhe took that as a yes. He nodded to her before he started walking again. His pace was a little rushed, but there was good reason. People would be coming to the well to get their own water. Whether it was to be heated up for cooking or for drinking as is. They would all get there and start shuning them, throwing stuff at them or just trying to provoke them.
He shook his head and noticed someone was close to them. He could feel it. He pulled his hood lower on his head, covering his eyes. He rushed to his cabin and when he was sure she was behind him, he opened the door for her to walk in. As of now, she was something, no, someone he had to protect. It wasn't everyday that you meet another Dryad and certainly not one that looked so *censored*ile already. He walked in after she did and closed the door behind them, locking the door. He put his pitcher down and looked around. "The cat's gone..." He turned to the girl. "Are you hungry? Or thirsty? Have you got any fresh wounds from these idiotic villagers?" He looked at her with worry in his eyes.

GEONOVA
The town was coming to life like a bear out of hibernation. They would be trowing away the old and making new products and foods for the day. What luck that he managed to sneak a few pounds of beef from the butcher's trash cans. He had them all wrapped up in a canvas pouch. It would feed him for at least a few days. He smiled happily and pulled his hood over his head to hide his eye color. His eyes were cast in shadow, making him smile alittle. Maybe he could go get some bread that teh baker tends to throw out. The man made the best bread and the best pasteries, which were always pre wrapped. Nothing spoiled by teh dumpster stink.
When he turned the corner to the baker's store dumpster, the cat he had been holding jumped and ran away. He whined slightly. His companion having ran away. Another set of bells starled him and he noticed a girl run away from teh baker's dumpster. He tilted his head to the side and ran over o the dumpter to watch where she was heading. It was weird, but he didn't really know. He blinkeda couple times, not knowing if he should follow or what. He turned him attention to the dumpster she abandoned and hopped up, looking down at the contents. There was a lot of bread there and cakes. He smiled.
Nova felt very lucky today as he gathered up some bread that was still soft and some prewrapped pasteries. Hegently put them into the backpack he was carrying. He smiled and hopped down, closing the dumpster lid before he walked off the direction the girl had gone. He wasn't sure why he was following, but maybe she needed help. He started to run.

In the distance, the village was coming to life. The smell of bread stated to fill Rue's nostrils as they got closer to civilization. That delightful smell alone could wake the whole village. No, that smell alone could lure a hungry Dryad into a swarming village street. It was a uncanny thought, but it was the truth. There had been several times where Rue couldn't contain her hunger and paid the price for it. But that was long ago, while she was still a child. Nowadays, it seems as if she hardly eats, and that's all thanks to the mental scaring; the memory of what the villagers did to her. She fears humans as much as she hates them.
The smell started to disperse as the two Dryads entered a cabin. It seemed old and abandoned on the outside and in, but Rue assumed that this was home to the boy. It was his safety and she felt like she shouldn't be here. Like she was intruding and just causing this amazing creature so much trouble. But there was nothing Rue could do about it now. Going back outside only asked for trouble. So once they were securely inside, Rue lifted her eyes. There was no need in keeping them glued to the ground when no humans were around. Here she was safe. Or at least hopped that she was safe. She still didn't know anything about this boy except that he was Dryad.
Rue slowly brought herself to look at the boy. It was difficult for her to glare at him when he wore an ex pression of worry in his eyes and voice. Rue felt like she surrendered when she dropped her gaze and stared at the palms of her hands. For a while she was silent and non-responsive to his questions. That moment she was silent, all she could think about was how much it annoyed her that he looked so worried and was so nice. She finally shook her head as a response to all of his questions, and then she brought her back up.
Rue looked at him and the hood over his hair. Had she actually seen his snowy-white hair or was she just imagining it? He could pass for a human with his hair covered. The feeling of uncertainty put her on edge. "Can..." Her voice was a little scratchy. She couldn't remember the last time she spoke. "Can you take off your hood?" The blood rushed to her cheeks as she held steady eye contact with the boy. She was curious to see his reaction.

[[Hnng, sorry for the short post. /writer'sblock]]
Time didn’t pass quite right as she ran. She could’ve sworn she’d been running forever, but really, she hadn’t run into anybody yet, meaning, it couldn’t have been more than 10 minutes.
A fire burned through the muscles in her legs, her lungs exploding, her heart pounding in her ears. She wanted to stop running, but she was scared, oh, so scared.
After running for a little longer, her legs were groaning, and Aria finally stopped. Just as she was about to slink into the shadow of a nearby building, she heard something she failed to hear sooner - footsteps. Fast-approaching footsteps. Panicked, she whipped her head around and saw someone running toward her.
For a moment, she hesitated, deciding whether she should run or hide. She didn’t have much time, for he was getting awfully close. Realizing she hadn’t tucked in her hair, and that she no longer had the cover of the early dawn light, Aria took off again. Her lungs instantly protesting. Not daring to stop or look back, Aria ran far and hard, fearing her short life may come to an abrupt, gruesome end.

((Sorry it took me a while...))
RYU
Ryu waited patiently for her answer, which he only received a shake of her head as a answer anyways. He nodded and went about doing what he had first gotten up to do. He poured his water into a small sink, which he plugged up with some piece of metal. He splashed his face with water, wetting his hood a bit. He grabbed a towel and dried his face. He was about to turn back to her when she spoke, finally.
Her voice was scratchy and rough from years at least of not being used. He turned to her and his eyes were widened a bit. He gaped at her. "Are... Are you sure..." He rummaged through the lone cabinet in his little cabin before he pulled out a glass and poured some water into it. He looked at her and placed e cup down. He nodded and reached for his hood.
"I'll take this off... Just, tell me.. What's your name? And are you Dryad too?" He pulled the hood back and over his head. His snowy locks spilling out like the snow on a mountain. He ran a hand through his hair and looked at the girl. What she had seen was not an illusion. It wasn't from the heat. It was real.

Nova continued to run the same direction he had been. He ran for a good ten minutes before he managed to see anything. Something, well, more like someone came into view. He was a out to call out to the person, but she up and ran away from him. He sighed and ran after her again. She was fast. It seemed like she had been running for the longest time, but it was more like she wanted to get away.
He ran after her, wanting her to at least slow down. He panted slightly and his breathing was beginning to become labored. "Hey! Wait!" He managed to yell out to the girl. He ran a little faster, wanting the girl to stop. He hissed at the pain that was beginning to burn at his side. He ran through the pain and continued to run after him. This girl would be the death of him.

[[Its fine. I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving, that is if you celebrate it!]]
Rue watched the boy's eyes widen and hesitantly ask her a question, but she stood in silence. He took a while to come to, but once he was done pouring his water, he finally revealed his unusual hair. With some restrain, she kept her eye level with his, not looking anywhere but into his soft green eyes.
When he spoke, Rue gave the boy a slight scowl. Wasn't it obvious that she was a Dryad too? Didn't her eyes give it away her identity like she thought it did when they first met? Maybe he just wanted her to confirm it like she did he. However, it seemed strange to Rue that he couldn't tell just by looking into her eyes, especially around this time of the year. For some reason, in autumn, the humans notice that she is a Dryad easier than usual. Rue recalled what she over heard one day while barely escaping a beating. "That creatures eyes! They make me so uncomfortable! I feel like when I look into those big dark eyes, that some how that creature can posses me! It makes me sick! I wish there were a way to kill those awful creatures!" Over hearing that made her more guarded and taught her to always stare at the ground when around people of any species.
But in this case, Rue couldn't take her eyes off of the boy's beautiful white hair. "I am a Dryad, can't you tell?" she hissed unintentionally, still looking at his hair. She was envious that the thing that made him noticeably Dryad was his stunning hair, whereas she got soulless black eyes. She dropped her eyes to the ground, in force of habit, as she answered his other question. "Rue" Her voice was softer and was starting to have a warm tone to it.

As the sun crept higher and higher, Aria could pick up the sounds of window shutters opening, spatulas scraping on frying pans, and the opening and closing of doors. The village was waking up. Aria had to lose this guy fast. If anyone else saw her, she probably wouldn’t be able to handle it if they were to gang up on her.
As she continued to run the soon-to-be-busy streets, she looks back and sees that her pursuer was catching up to her. She wasn’t sure what she should do. Most times, people wouldn’t go out of their way to bother her. I mean, if she made it easy for them, they’d do everything they could to make her miserable. Otherwise, they didn’t think she was worth it. And so, Aria wasn’t sure why he was trying so hard to catch up with her, but it couldn’t be good, and the concealment of his face scared her that much more.
Just as Aria was about to make a sharp left into a familiar alley, the boy, judging by his voice, called out to her. Stunned, she stopped running, and looked back at him. By the sounds of it, he couldn’t be too much older than she was. But that wasn’t why she stopped. It was his tone of voice. It wasn’t angry or harsh or even scared. Ever since the villagers came to know what she was, they’d always speak with pure hatred dripping from their voices.
After a moment’s hesitation, she jogged back to meet the man, grabbed him by the collar, and dragged him into the alley. As they reached safer, dimmed light of the alley, she lets go of his collar and makes her way farther down. Reaching a row of overflowing garbage cans, she turns back to wave him over. As she does, she realizes his hood had fallen off his head when she’d dragged him along. Aria wasn’t sure if it was just the bad lighting in the alley, but she could swear one of his eyes was darker than the other...

The hiss in her voice didn't go unnoticed by Ryu. He flinched at the noise, remembering all the times people used that tone of voice while they whispered behind his back or even to his face. The way people would hiss out curses at him or hiss out some vile language that was rather hurtful, not that the villagers really cared for how he felt at the treatment. That little hiss from the girl was all it took to bring back memories of beatings and one instance where he had had some woman throw a pot and a knife at him. He shuddered at the memory and at the memory of her words as he laid on the ground, holding his head. Get away from me you vile creature! You have done nothing but bring pain here! He remembered seeing her shoes as she walked over to gather to pot and knife. The woman had actually delivered a kick to his chest that time. These creatures should die. They don't deserve to have a life in our town. Tainting the streets and air with their presence.
He shook himself of the memories when she spoke again. Her voice had taken on a slightly warmer, friendlier air. He looked up at her, his face softening slightly at how dry her voice still sounded, like she hadn't talked in a few years. He opened his mouth but shut it again. He picked the water-filled glass from the floor and placed it by the sink. "Rue... Lovely name.. I'm Ryu." He pulled his cloak off and folded it up, reavealing the clothes, well, the shirt mainly, underneath. Just a sleeveless black shirt. He pulled a stoll from the corner and sat down in front of her, not too close in case she felt uncomfortable still. "You can sit on the bed.." He ran his hands through his hair before rubbing the back like he was nervous.
"Do you need anything? A bath? Water? Food? I know I'm asking you a lot of questions, but your body is probably more beaten than mine. I've lived outside the village for a while now, so I'm sure an hatred towards dryads has been aimed at you." Ryu fiddled with the hem of his tattered shirt and picked at a string that was just barely poking out of the shirt. He felt bad for the girl. Had her eyes been only slightly brighter, a little lighter a shade, she wouldnt have to hide out in the shadows and endure beatings from people who didn't even try to understand them. They were still human, in a sense.

Nova was surprised by the girls reaction to his voice alone. She had actually stopped. He slowed down a bit, not wanting torun anymore. His lungs burned like a fire had been set in each one. He hadn't noticed she had jogged back toward him until he felt a hand on teh collar of his shirt. He yelped when she pulled him toward an alleyway. She pulled him fast, causing his hood to fall from his head. His jet black hair and dual colored eyes revealed to the girl. He stumbled a bit as she led him into the darkened alleyway and even more so when she let go. He managed to stumble a bit but regain his footing.
When she waved him over, he could tell by her ex pression that she could see his eyes. He threw his head forward, his hair slightly blocking his face. He sighed and knew there was no way to really hide his eyes. He flipped his hair back into place and walked over to her before he got down on his heels. He looked at her and smiled slightly. He reached into his backpack and pulled out one of the many pre-wrapped pasteries he took from the baker's dumpster. He took her hand in his and placed the pastery in her hand. She looked a bit hungry in his eyes.
"I saw you running from the dumpster. I'm guessing the bell and such scared you off before you get anything. Those things scared me too." He kep=t his voice down to a whisper so that people wouldn't hear them. Evenif this girl wasn't a dryad but merely a girl loooking for food, surely by being caught with a dryad would get her in trouble with the villagers. He knew he was being a little friendly with the girl, but Nova was a nice guy and liked talking to people. He stood upa bit and brshed off his pants.

He was being kind, while she was being distant. Why? Rue thought. She had spoken to him harshly and left his questions to silent answers. The way he talked to her made her feel like they were long lost friends that got reunited. Although, the probability that they were friends at one point was possible. For about five years of her life she lived as a human; she had a family and friends, she even started a little bit of education before she got abandoned. Nameless and faceless bodies clouded her memory. Their kind words and gestures were stained with hatred. Everyone gets blinded with hatred at some point. Rue reminded herself, though Ryu's kind words were tantalizing.
Thinking about his questions, Rue tried to hide her smile as she wondered what good would a bath do if tomorrow she would just be alone and hiding in the filthy shadows once more, no matter how luxurious it may feel. However, his last words got under her skin, partially because it was true. "Just because I am a girl doesn't mean I can't handle myself. I know how to defend myself," She didn't exactly know what she was saying or if it was corresponding to what he had just said, but the memories that flew past her eyes kept the annoyance in her voice. "The beatings my body has had to endure is because of my carelessness, but don't get me wrong, I am a strong girl and I know how to be safe, and I know that the deep hatred the humans have towards our kind holds strong, because mine for them does too. Still, why would your beatings be worse than mine?" After she got done venting some of her built up anger, she felt bad. He was just trying to be kind. She knew the point he was getting at, but she couldn't help but defend herself.
Rue was quiet for a while. Her eyes were studying the ground, she was ashamed to look up. But still she had to ask him "Why?" Rue made her way slowly to the bed he had welcomed her to sit on. "Why are you being so- so kind when I've shown you hardly any speck of kindness?" She felt as if her voice showed her defeat when it cracked after the 'so'. After she plopped down on the bed, Rue brought her eyes up to the boy, no, to Ryu. She was waiting for his response before she even thought about accepting his compliment, or before answering his questions. Strangely, she wanted to stay and was hoping that after her rant, he wouldn't throw her out.
