She inclined his head when she heard him compliment her hideaway. "You could say that. I guess. It took forever to raise enough money to get some of this stuff. Basically, it is a place I can hide from my family. They don't know about it," she said. Which was a good think. This was her hidey-hole. The only place she felt relatively safe in.
Besides school.
And she had even slept here for a good week at one point. Though, she did have to use a friend's bathroom every once in a while. With a sigh, she reached for the small remote and turned on the TV. It blinked open to the news channel where the anchorwoman had just gone over a recap of what happened just a few minutes ago at a local cafe.
They even showed a small clip of what exactly happened.
Isedon's eyes widened. "Dude..." she breathed, leaning closer as she watched.
~xXx~
Zakeru scoffed. "Ginger Ale and saltines. Good for queasy stomachs. Believe me, it will help," he said as he lead her into the building through a side door. Immediately, the smell of engine oil and leather hit his nose before he ducked into the kitchen.
He pulled out a chair from the table. "Sit," he said as he pulled down a glass and filled it with some Ginger Ale. Then he pulled out a small packet of saltine crackers and placed both of them before her. "I'll be back in a few. Stay in here though until I tell Faolan what happened." He offered her a small smile before he left the room to go find his stepfather.

Greyson nodded and bit his bottom lip. He could understand why some people wanted to get away from their families for a while. His family was crazy, but they were very close-knit, and he'd had a relatively easy life. Needless to say, Greyson had been privileged.
When he heard the woman speaking about some shooting that occured at a cafe nearby. He remembered his sister had told him that she was going to go eat breakfast there. His heart sunk. The anchorwoman said that nobody was shot, and then they replayed the surveillance video.
He inched closer, leaving Rana to lay on the floor. He watched as the scene took place, a man pointed a gun at the girl with red hair.
"Holy crap." His eyes widened. That crimson hair and silvery eyes were unmistakeable. "That's my little sister," he said, getting to his feet. Just as the man was about to pull the trigger, he watched as a boy with black hair knocked the gun out of the way, sending the man away from Solstice with a punch.
The rest was too quick for him to register.
He then recognized the boy- that kid was from the carousel, too. This was becoming way too strange for Greyson's liking.
~~~~~~~~~~
Solstice sat down in the chair and sipped the ginger ale. She was a bit hesitant in eating the crackers, but she got three of them down. Just as Zakeru had said, it calmed her stomach down. She felt much better. Tapping her fingernails on the table in front of her absent-mindedly, she waited for the orange-eyed boy to return.
She didn't even know his name, but she knew he was from the carousel that she rode yesterday. She looked down at her ring and sighed. The jewel was such a strange blue color. She looked up at the ceiling and began to count the tiles silently to try and pass the time.
Perhaps this would all turn out to be nothing at all. Maybe the man was just a lunatic. Who was she kidding?
That man had some sort of reason for trying to attack her, and she was grateful that someone had intervened. She'd be dead if Zakeru hadn't. Letting out a sigh, she tried to make sense of things.
It took Isedon a few minutes to realized that she recognized those two from the carousel. The gray-haired boy also looked mighty familiar. Who the hell was he? The male with her identified the female with the boy on the screen as his sister...
Holy sh!t! Now she recognized that male!
That was Zakeru!
Damn. Boy has some moves.
Turning towards Greyson, she said, "I know where they are," right after the achorwoman asked the location of the two.
~xXx~
Zakeru came back into the kitchen leading a man about the same height with chocolate brown hair with mismatching green/blue eyes. "And this is the girl as I was telling you about, Faolan," Zakeru said. "I don't fantasize about anything. Except action video games."
The man just chuckled and turned his hetero-chromatic gaze to the girl. "So, you are the girl my Stepson rescued from that crazed man in the cafe? Well, I have to tell you know that you two are all over every news station in the city." Slapping one hand on Zakeru's shoulder, he pulled the boy close. "Get her what she wants and get to work on that bike. It is due to be finished early next week."
Waving a goodbye to Solstice, Faolan exited the room.
Greyson gave Isedon a look. "Don't turn their location in. My sister hates reporters. Just tell me where they're at, and I can drive there in my truck. I'll even take you there, too if you want." He put his hands in the air and turned around to put Rana back onto her leash, tugging slightly to urge the dog to get up from her place on the floor.
"And that boy.... He was at the carousel. I recognized him, even if the quality of surveillance cameras is crappy." He ran a hand through his hair.
"But getting to my car means that we'd have to go back through the park, and possibly encounter freaky white-eye man again." He bit his lip, and Rana let out a slight whine, knowing what Greyson was talking about.
~~~~~~~~~~
Solstice was glad to see that Zakeru's step-father was friendly, and not angry about a stranger being in his shop. She let out a small smile in the man's direction and listened to the two talk. It took her a while to notice Faolan's heterochromatic eyes, which she thought was unusual. Of course, her eyes weren't a normal color, either. Greens and greys didn't usually mix in eye colors.
As the man left, Solstice waved good-bye and bit her lip and looked at Zakeru. "I bet we're all over the news." After a few moments of silence, she added, "What's your name? I didn't catch it, if you mentioned it. I'm Solstice, anyways."

Isedon snorted. "I'm not going to turn the location. Zakeru would find some way to kill me." Freaky white-eyed man... A small growl left her throat and her hackles rose. "Then we'll sneak back to the park. I know another way. Which street/parkinglot is your truck in?" she asked.
~xXx~
"What's your name? I didn't catch it, if you mentioned it. I'm Solstice, anyways."
Zakeru turned his orange eyes back towards Solstice. A smile curved his lips. "Zakeru Tokage, is my name. And I didn't mention it earlier. Sorry about that. Things just rushed together," he said, tilting his head to one side as he slid his hands into his pants.
"I gotta go finish making that bike. Your welcome to watch. But I'll warn you know, please don't touch anything," he said, stressing the "please" before he turned to exit the kitchen again.

Greyson scratched his head, and Rana yawned. Greyson bit his lip, trying to remember the lot that his truck was in. After a few seconds, he turned his eyes back to Isedon and said, "It's in the lot beside the park's entry sign."
"It's a little far from where we first met the freaky dude, but if we can both run as fast as we did trying to get away from him, I don't think he'll catch us." He let out a nervous smile. He sure hoped that what he thought was true. Lord knew what the man would do if he actually did get his hands on one of the teens.
~~~~~~~~~~
Solstice bit the inside of her cheek and ran a hand through her crimson hair. His name was unusual, just like hers. It flew together, and melded, though. She liked it. It faintly reminded her of the name Zachary. Pushing aside the random thoughts, Solstice decided that it would be best to follow Zakeru.
"I promise I won't touch except the ground." She put her hands up in the air as she stood from her seat, following him out of the shop. "So that bike's not yours, is it?"
Isedon cocked her head. "IF we ran fast enough. And that is a big and major IF. Besides... We can go there at dark. The shop should still be open since Zakeru is working on making a bike and he won't harm your sister." She quickly changed the news channel to something on Comedy Central.
~xXx~
Zakeru couldn't help but grin at her response. Though, he shook his head at the question. "Na. It's for a client. Faolan thought it would be a good chance for me to get some money besides making spare bikes in spare time." He shrugged slightly. "If you ever go in through the front, there are a row of bikes that I made, just for the shop. And I also made the bike you rode today."
He glanced over the bike skeleton once. All that he needed to do -- basically -- was put it all back together. The painted pieces -- chrome, black, and red stripes -- had came back yesterday and he had spent most of the time getting all the pieces organized on a side table. Quickly glancing at it, he saw he still had all the pieces he needed.
With a quick nod he picked up the engine and started installing it.
Greyson, being the protective older brother that he was, couldn't help but be skeptical about staying here until nightfall. He didn't like the idea of his little sister being with some random boy who just swooped in and saved her from some gun-weilding maniac. However, he suppressed the need to audibly growl and sat down, taking a moment to look at his ring, the green colored stone on the griffon's eyes catching in the light.
"Was that carousel... weird to you when you rode on it?" He broke the silence after a few moments.
~~~~~~~~~~
Solstice didn't know much about bikes, but apparently Zakeru was good at making them. "Well, you're pretty good at what you do, then. That bike is awesome," she said, referring to the steampunk one that they had escaped on. She stood idly, watching Zakeru do his work.
"And it's cool that you have a way to make money that you actually enjoy. I was stuck flipping burger patties at a fast food restaurant for a few days." She let out a light laugh. That was one of the many reasons that she wasn't a particular fan of fast food- and a reason that she was quite skinny. She had seen how grossly obese some of the most frequent customers were, and she hadn't had a craving for fast food ever since then.

Glancing over her shoulder to break eye contact from the stupidness rolling across the TV screen, she shrugged her shoulder. "Like the fact I got a ring that I can't get off or that the dire wolf I rode seemed to warm beneath me," she said, showing him the snarling wolven ring on her hand.
"Then yea. That carousel was extremely weird," she added.
~xXx~
Zakeru flashed her a smile. "If you do something that you love, you never have to work a day in your life," he said, shrugging slightly. "At least, that is what my mom tells me. So you tell me, what do you enjoy doing?" He had just finished installing the engine, wiping his slightly greased up fingers on a rag before moving onto the front; adding the gas tank, front axle, and handlebars.

"You have a ring, too?" His eyes bulged. He moved a bit closer to her and looked at the ring. "Holy crap. Something is not right here. And I know I'm stating the obvious." He put a hand on his forehead, blinking his eyes a few times.
"Mine's one of a griffon." He held out his hand to show it to Isedon. "I'll bet you every dime in my wallet that my sister and that guy with her have ring's too. And... It might have just been my imagination, but my sister's eyes were blue last night. They're never, ever blue. Ever." He put his hands in the air to show that he was not joking around.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Yeah. When you do something that you love, it's not really working." She let out a light laugh. "My mom used to say that to me, too." She paused at his question. She'd never really told anyone what she enjoyed doing. It wasn't a question that she was frequently asked. However, it wasn't a difficult one to answer.
Without a flaw, Solstice said, "I like to do anything that involves some form of art- singing, dancing, painting, playing the violin." Solstice paused. "All of that is fun to me. But it's hard to find a stable job in the world of performing arts, or even as a literal artist." She ran a hand through her hair.
"Wolf ring," Isedon said. "Maybe that is way your dog came after me. 'Cause I smell wolfy." She shrugged. That could be a possibility. But, this was all so strange. "Maybe later, we could find that old dude and demand answers?"
~xXx~
Zakeru scoffed as he worked. "Make a demo CD of you just playing the Violin and singing. I'm sure some of the Record labels might find you good and decide to give you a contract. You could also audition for that dance show... So You Think You Can Dance... Maybe win that. You'd get a contract for sure. For the painting, you could help design logos." He shrugged as he lifted the front wheel to the front axle. "There are a lot of opportunities. Just got to look in the right places."
Greyson thought for a moment. Rana didn't act aggressively towards people, so it was a high possibility that Rana growled at Isedon for that exact reason. He'd never thought of that until she mentioned it. Rana sniffed at Isedon's hand slightly and whined.
"Yeah. It would be a good idea to find that old man, but the fair isn't here anymore. They left town either last night or early this morning. Yesterday was the last day for the fair." He scratched the back of his head. "But maybe he lives around here, or somewhere nearby. We could investigate a bit and find out."
~~~~~~~~~~
Solstice hadn't thought about those. She wasn't good with technology, so she preferred traditional things. However, she guessed that they were all possibilities, if she had someone help her with the technological aspect of everything. She let out a light nod, a look of enlightenment appearing on her face.
"I never thought of those. I'll have to look into those options." She let out a light smile in Zakeru's direction.

Isedon frowned when she heard that the old man probably wasn't in town anymore. He was their only shot at getting answers about the rings and about the freaky men with the pure-white eyes. Her russet eyes narrowed as she ran a hand through her hair.
Yea... This was going to suck big-time.
"But what if your wrong and he went with the fair. That means tracking it down to its next location and traveling there with all four of us. No offense, but it'll make one uncomfortable road trip," she said.
~xXx~
Zakeru saw the light flash on in her eyes as she considered what he had said. With a faint smile, he leaned across the bike. "From what I heard, Faolan is looking for a good artist for a logo. He might even give you some extra cash," he said, cocking his head to one side. Orange eyes bright.

Greyson pondered a moment. "My parents would be pretty pissed about me just getting up and going on a road trip, especially with my mom being sick and all..." He bit his lip, and Rana layed down again. "But if it means finding some sort of answer, or finding that old man, I guess that I would be open to that option."
He bit his lip. "The next fair is in the next state up. Um... Which state is that?" He looked down at his feet, deep in thought. He never was good in map-memorizing, or remembering which states surrounded the state that he lived in. After all, he hadn't lived in this state his entire life.
~~~~~~~~~~
Solstice grinned. "Yeah. I'll see if I can get him to see if he's willing to let me work on that logo. I already have a pretty good idea of what it could be like." She looked at his position.
"It's amazing how bikes don't fall over when people lean over them like that." A slight giggle erupted from her throat.
Isedon cocked one brow. "You don't know which state it is?" she asked with a smile before laughing. "Want to know a good way to remember the state you do live in? Recite your address," she added, leaning on the couch as she smiled at Greyson.
~xXx~
Zakeru shrugged and glanced over his shoulder even though he was still leaning on the bike. Faolan was talking to somebody over another commissioned bike. He pursed his lips and turned back towards Solstice as she giggled, stating she was surprised how the bike didn't fall over.
He gave her a wicked smirk. "The trick is keeping your weight on your legs. And this thing is missing a tire," he added, pointing towards the rear-end. "And you could talk to Faolan at lunch. He doesn't do much."
"Don't make fun of me for being terrible at anything to do with maps." He bit his lip. "We live in Arizona. The next stop for the fair is somewhere in California." He nodded, proud of himself for remembering after a moment.
"See." He smiled triumphantly at Isedon, raising his chin up a bit.
~~~~~~~~~~
Solstice nodded. "So that's how you're balancing on it." She grinned. Her eyes darted to Faolan as she saw Zakeru looking at him.
"I'll be sure to speak to him then. I wouldn't pass up an opportunity," she said, placing her hands on her hips. "My brother's probably worrying right-" She stopped for a moment as her cell phone rang. She gave Zakeru an apologetic look before looking at the caller ID.
Her friend. She denied it and turned back to him, only to receive a text message a few seconds later.
Why the hell are you all over the news? Are you okay? That boy that rescued you has got some serious moves. And he's cute.
Solstice rolled her eyes. She would reply later. She was not in the mood to answer questions, or dwell on others' comments about people who saved her life.

Isedon's grin stayed on her face, russet eyes sparkling with slight mischief. "Yes, yes. I see. You deserve some sort of treat for that," she said.
~xXx~
Zakeru nodded and leaned back off the bike so he could add more to the half-skeletal frame. Twirling a wrench in his hands, he tightened a few things on the front of the bike and set the tool down as he heaved up the back wheel.
"Your friend seems mighty persistent to talk with you," he noted.

Greyson gave Isedon an unamused look, but dropped it for a grin shortly afterwards. "You might want to watch out. You're the one wearing a wolf ring, puppy." He raised a brow at her.
~~~~~~~~~~
Solstice let out a light laugh and shoved her phone into her pocket. "She's stubborn. She'll probably send me several more text messages."
Her eyes drifted to the entrance of the store. She cursed under her breath as she saw the camera crew and the sharply dressed woman walk in. "Damn reporters," she said.
