     The air was cold and fresh, like a crisp sweet apple. Snow lay in a feather blanket across the cobblestones and icicles hung like Christmas decoration from the eaves of the grand old stone building the group approached. The scents of cinnamon, pine, and smoking tobacco permeated the chilly air. Amelia, resplendent in crimson satin and snowy white fur, lead the way on her brother Gage's arm into the building. The two parents stepped quickly inside so that they could watch their children being announced for their debut.
     "Mistress Abigail Matthison, daughter of the late Lord Archer Matthison and Lady Amelia Matthison!" the doorman cried as Abigail moved into the room on delicate feet. Abigail looked nothing like her mother. Where Amelia was dark of hair and eyes, with amazonian proportions, Abigail was as delicate as a flower. She was tiny, and wore her honey gold hair in loose waves around a face that was all big sea green eyes. Her gown was a confection of pale blue silk and silvery embroidery.
     "Master Garrett Boyd, son of Lord Gage Boyd and the late Lady Mary Boyd!" Garrett was also fair of hair, though his eyes were a blue so dark they were almost black. He was dressed all in black, with a heavy cloak of fur pinned to his massive shoulders. He stood tall as a giant, well over six feet, but it was with great gentility that he offered his cousin his arm and escorted her into the ball room, where they both stopped to stare.
     The Grand Meeting Hall was the definition of opulence. The floor was a checkerboard of black and white marble, with a stage of peach colored marble rising directly opposite the large double door they had entered through. In the far corner, there rose a massive holiday tree, glowing with candles and festooned with ribbons and garlands of every color. On either side of the entrance way rose white marble stairways, with mahogany banisters and carpeted in red, which joined in a balcony lined with arches that ran around the entire room. The walls were spaced with tall stained glass windows depicting beautiful lords and ladies dancing, and on either side were enormous fireplaces, big enough for six to stand in easily, burning what looked to be entire trees.
     After allowing the young ones to gawk undisturbed for a mew moments, Gage stepped forward. "Come along you two, let's get you out there." He took Abigail's arm from his son and lead her into the room, allowing Garrett to escort his aunt. Soon, the four had found a place near one of the fireplaces to watch the colorful people dance by.
