Meridith didn't know why, but she believed that it was worse than it sounded. A small whimper escaped her while she thought about it. "P-please." She said. "Please do-don't." Her voice broke and that was all she could get out. She looked up at his face but it was blurred by her tears.

"Well," said Asher, watching her closely without seeming too. "Are you hungry? The kitchen is right over there. You can help yourself to anything that is in the fridge."

Jay sighed, and almost stopped and turned around to go back. "I'm sorry, but you broke the rules. It's only a few days, it'll be fine. I wish I could turn around and bring you back. But I can't." Jay stopped before continuing. Woah. Was I really that nice to a girl on her first day?

"But I wo-won't" Her voice caught and she couldn't finish her sentence. She looked away from him, trying to hold back her tears. If she started crying now, she wouldn't be able to speak and she still might be able to convince him. "Won't r-run away ag-again." She managed to finish.

This time Jay did stop, but shook his head so quickly that the feather fell from his hair and drifted to the floor. "One second," he growled, setting her down to pick up his feather. After picking up his feather, he turned to Meridith.

Meridith stood still as he picked his feather up. Dimly, she thought about how strange it was that it didn't fall out the entire time he was running. She pushed that thought away and came back to the present situation at hand. He had set her down, which was a good thing she thought. Now, if there was just some way to have him take her back to their room instead of the punishment room. "I'm sorry." She blurted out. She said it with a strong, clear voice, much different than her usual stuttering, silent one. She managed to bl
ink away the last of her tears and looked at him, standing awkwardly as she waited for what he would do.

Jay took a step back, titling his head slightly. "I'm...sorry. I've never heard any one say it quite so clear...I'm mean I've heard it, but everyone either said it screaming at me, through a fit of tears, or trying to get away from me." He set his head in his hand, "fine. But if you ever so much as touch me in the wrong way, talk back to me, or don't do what I say, you are going there. Do you understand?"

Meridith let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding. She was safe for now. "Th-thank you. I-I won't be any trouble." She was back to stuttering but she was still talking above a whisper, a huge step for Meridith.

He still couldn't believe he was doing this. "Let's go." He growled, striding forward, completely ignoring the fact Meridith was still alive. When he approached the door he didn't even look back to see if Meridith was there.

Meridith followed a few paces behind. Her heart was racing at her near miss and she still couldn't believe that she was able to say sorry so clearly. But she knew Jay wouldn't let something slide again so she would have to be careful from now on,

Jay stepped inside and finally glanced back to see if Meridith was there. "Are you hungry now?" He snapped, without turning around, "running around the castle must or tired you out," he snarled, trying to control his anger.

Meridith took a step back, surprised at his anger. Just a few minutes ago, he was being so nice but his mood changed so suddenly. "Y-yes." She said, once again quiet. "I-I'll go ma-make something." She kept her eyes down and made her way to the kitchen.

Jay fingernails dug into into the palm on his opposite hand. "Okay, lesson number one. Don't anger an hungry vampire. I haven't eaten in DAYS. It really doesn't help eating this...human crud. And it seriously doesn't help you running off. Sure, I set it up. But for once I trusted a person to actually stay. And of course, you didn't stay. Because once again another person hates me and wants to get away from me! I didn't choose this life! God!" He yelled, walking out the door, locking it this time.

Meridith leaned her head against the fridge and shut her eyes. The thought of trying to leave again never entered her mind, even if the door had been unlocked. She was upset, scared, and confused. Why was he yelling at her? And what did he mean that he trusted her not to leave? That was a natural reaction. Sighing, she pushed herself away from the fridge and rummaged around the cabinets looking for some pasta. Finding some spaghetti, she started to boil a pot of water and sat in one of the dining room chairs to wait.

Jay stormed through the halls, ignoring any one and every thing he saw. He finally reached the main hall and went out into the front lawn. After going outside, he went down to his favorite tree near a small pond. He lay beneath the tree for hours with his eyes closed, remembering the easy times when everything was simple. But that was 400 years ago. He smiled slightly, remembering how he planted this tree at only age seven. This tree had been with him for hundreds of years. But, the feeling of hunger awoke him and he went searching for something. He didn't care what. Just...something.

Meridith had finished cooking her meal and sat back down at the table to eat it. It wasn't a lot but she didn't have much of an appetite after today. The more she thought about her situation, the worse she felt. She folded her arms on the table and set her head down in them. She stayed in that position for awhile, eventually dozing off.

Rylee looked over at the bed. "No, I'm not really hungry." Maybe an hour or so of sleep would help calm her down a bit. "Do you mind if I sleep?" Her eyes never met his, but she could practically feel him staring at her. Please stop, she thought. Rylee had never liked being stared at, which made this even more of a nightmare.

Although it took him an hour or two, Jay stumbled across a few animals to devour, andrnfinally decided he was calm enough to go back to the castle. He walked slowlyrnthrough the dense forest until finally reaching the castle. As soon as he wasrnabout to open the door, a thought raced through his mind. Holy, he thought, did I justrntell every inch of my feelings to a stranger? He shook the thought and continuedrnto go inside. He went up to their room, and opened the door. |

"Not at all." Asher replied. "Obviously the bed is over there." He gestured with his arm. "If you need anything just call." He took a seat on one of the chairs, pretending to take in one of the books that laid on the coffee table.

Meridith stirred slightly when the door opened but that was it. She was in the middle of a dark dream, involving the forest where she was caught, the castle she was in, and a lot of vampires. Different scenarios played through her mind while she slept and none of the ended well.

Jay fan his fingers through his hair. "I'm sorry." He mumbled. "I was...hungry." He walked slowly over to her, and picked her up. "You know, a kitchen table really isn't the place to nap." He set her down on the bed and then Jay sat on the rocking chair to the side of the bed.
