Deathpaw wandered back over to theother apprentices and grapped a small bird from the pile. He gobbled it up and burried the remains in the dirt outside of camp. He looked at the other two. "I here we are gettnig that mousebrained-idiot, the blind kit." he sneered...

Hailstorm nuzzled him, "Maybe they were punishing Lifewing, I don't know, but I do know that she has been doing really well at sensing where she is going, so maybe it is a curse and a blessing." She said kindly, licking his nose...

Blizzardpaw ignored Deathpaw, knowing better than to quarrel with him. Icepaw flicked her tail at him and her icy blue eyes seemed to burn with cold fire. "Duskkit will be a great warrior!" She hissed at him. She got up, leaving her half-eaten prey and headed to the nursery. She wanted to see if Hailstorm could take her out in the forest after the apprentice ceremony. Flamestrike had trained her when Hailstorm was in the nursery. Now that Duskkit was being apprenticed, Hailstorm could continue training her.

Flamestrike sighed. "I don't think StarClan would put punishment on a kit, even if Lifewing should be punished. I better tell Rainflower that she's mentoring Duskkit before the ceremony starts," He said, remembering now that he had to return to his deputy duties. He released his tail from her and licked her muzzle before he departed. He walked out from the nursery and almost ran into Icepaw. "Sorry," She sputtered and he smiled warmly at her. "I presume you are going to talk to your mentor?" He asked and she nodded before scampering into the nursery. Flamestirke twitched his whiskers with amusement and padded to the warrior's den.

Fallingstar blinked his eyes open. He looked outside. A warm, calm day. The typical day in green-leaf. He shook his head to rouse himself. Fallingstar already heard a few scuffles and meows outside, signifying that a few cats had already beaten him to be the first to wake up. At this thought, Fallingstar jumped up and started a brisk walk to outside his den. He paused for a moment. 'Oh yes, today is the day Duskkit becomes an apprentice.' He thought. He sighed, and in one pounce, leapt from his den to outside. He slowly made his way to the giant rock. [Um, I hope that's where all the clan announcements take place]. He yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the rock for a Clan meeting." He waited for awhile, as he watched cats slowly form a group beneath him.

Coalpaw roused when he heard Fallingstar yowl out to the Clan. Without waiting or thinking, he quickly jumped to his feet and dashed to the rock, eager to be one of the first to watch his leader.

Rainflower slowly stepped out of the den, her heart thumping. Will today be the day she finally got an apprentice. Rainflower's mind was clouded with confusion. 'Am I ready? Can I really teach the kit how to become a warrior?' Rainflower tried to shake the thoughts out of her head.

 Dreamstone had been basking under the sun again. She opened her eyes when she heard Fallingstar yowl for the Clan to gather. Dreamstone then started mentally debating on whether she should join or not. After a few heartbeats, Dreamstone grumpily picked herself off the ground and started her slow journey towards the rock.

Nightowl had already been up, and he was just about to hunt, when the leader's yowl stopped him. 'Ah, another gathering?' He asked himself. He sighed and turned around, slowly padding towards the source of Fallingstar's yowl.

Icepaw peered at the highrock where her clan leader stood. She shook her fur out and stood up, her white pelt glowing a dull blue. She padded under the base of the rock and sat next to Coalpaw. She purred a hello to him and looked up at her leader.

Blizzardpaw watched his sister go. As he expected, she plopped down right next to Coalpaw. He rolled his eyes and flicked his tail in annoyance. With a sigh, he left his prey, knowing he would return after the ceremony. Without enthusiasm, he padded to the base of the highrock. He would rather be hunting than at an apprentice ceremony.

Flamestirke hurried through the gathering cats and reached Rainflower. He sighed with relief, knowing he still had time to tell her. He sat down next to her and curled his tail closer to him. He whispered quietly to her, "Rainflower, Fallingstar has chosen you to be warrior to this new apprentice. Come closer to the highrock so you can finish the ritual," He said to her.

Shadowstorm entered the camp as their leader yowled for the clan meeting. She quickly dropped her prey at the fresh-kill pile as Pantherclaw did the same. They hurried to the base of the high-rock. It looked like most of the Clan had already gathered. She saw Flamestrike whispering to Rainflower and felt her hopes die. She had been wishing that Duskkit could be her apprentice. Her tail drooped as she sat and Pantherclaw shot her a sympathetic gaze before he returned his watch to his leader.

Emberpaw padded out of the den. Today, her kin would become an apprentice! She thought happily and approached Duskkit. She approached her from upwind so Duskkit would catch her scent. "Hey Duskkit. Bet you can't wait to be an apprentice," She said and ran her amber tail along Duskkit's flank.

Rainflower gasped when Flamestrike told her the news, as she nodded obediently and padded up closer to the high rock. She gazed at Duskkit, wondering what was going through the kit's mind. 'Probably confusion and excitement.' She grinned at that thought.

Coalpaw looked around to see Icepaw sitting next to him. He meowed back a hello, and leaned closer to her, whispering "You think Duskkit is ready?". He always felt excited whenever a new cat was going to join the apprentice den, and Duskkit was no exception. He knew that Rainflower would probably fill her mind with things only kits think of, and Duskkit would be a very childish apprentice.

"I've called you together for one of the most important moments in the life of a Clan." Fallingstar began, hoping that he got each word right. "Duskkit has reached her sixth moon, and it is time for her to become an apprentice." He beckoned the kit with his tail. "Come forward, Duskkit." He said gently.

Flamestrike felt his whiskers twitch with amusement. Rainflower was a great choice. This would be her first apprentice, but a flicker of doubt ran through his head. This would be Rainflower's first apprentice. Wouldn't Duskkit need more treatment because of her blindness. He whisked the thought away and watched the ceremony play out.

Icepaw shifted her icy gaze back to Coalpaw. "I think she's ready, but how can she be blind and be a warrior?" She asked. "I mean. She won't be able to see signals if we're planning attacks or see where a warrior is when she needs to strike in battle," She sighed, her white paws shifting uncomfortably. She looked up at Duskkit. Her sightless gaze was cast around the clearing. For a moment, it seemed like she was seeing the clan.

Coalpaw looked at Icepaw for sometime. It seemed that this she-cat really cared about other cats. 'More than me, at least.' He thought to himself. "Well," He began. "I'm sure there were plenty of blind cats before. Blindness is only a hindrance, not a curse." He touched Icepaw's side with the tip of his tail. "She'll be strong." He looked up at Duskkit, and for once, sincerely hoped that this cat would become strong. He hated it, watching cats defile others because of a small detail.

Icepaw took comfort in Coalpaw's touch. "I'm just worried. I know Duskkit will be a great apprentice, I just don't want her to get hurt. Also, think of Fallingstar," She said and then continued, wanting to explain. "If Duskkit fails, the clan will look down on Fallingstar because they would have thought he did something wrong with Duskkit's mentor or whatever reason," She said, trying to explain, but not being able to put exactly what she meant into words.

 Scribblekit walked out of the nursery den. He sat down and wrapped his tail around his paws. He licked down the fur on his back wanting to look nice for Duskkit's ceremony. He sat up straight and listened as the leader began to talk. He could hear some of the cats talking about whether or not Duskkit was strong enough to be an apprentice or if her blindness would hold her back. He couldn't help but feel a little angry at the other cats. Duskit would be a great warrior and he knew it.

 "Didn't you turn six moons too?" Ashpaw asked limping up to Scribblekit.

 "Yea." Scribblepaw answered not paying much attention to Ashpaw. He was still trying to listen in on the other cats conversation.

Skykit lay outside the nursery in a small patch of sunlight, watching the clan cats do their business. She knew that today she would finally become an apprentice with her brother and sister and couldn't wait. Her silverly-blue fur gleamed in the light of sun-high and seemed to turn her black paws, ears and tail to a dark bluish color. She twitched her tail boredly as she waited for Fallenstar to make the annoucement.

Earthkit was lying down calmly inside the nursery when Scorchkit leaped on her, scattering moss and bedding everywhere. "Furbrain! What was that for?!" she hissed furiously, giving her flank a few licks to clean her ruffled fur.

Scorchkit gave an amused mreow, grinning at Earthkit mischieviously,"Why not? I need to practice my battle skills for when we become apprentices!"
