Ayk was surprised when a small-ish female ran into him. He wasn’t expecting anybody to be walking around in this part of the tent sea, only because the tents were thinning out. His eyes narrowed somewhat beneath the shadow of his hood at her warning, but he raised his hands in a “surrender”-ing motion to show that he was no threat despite the numerous weapons on his person.

“I usually don’t have people running into me, female,” he said as she was reaching down to pluck a brightly coloured feather off the ground. Ayk stiffened slightly at the sight of it. Was he careless? Or did it just happen to fall off that General’s ridiculous headwear when he was walking back towards his grandiose tent. Ayk thought back to his encounter. No, there was definitely a feather missing from that hat when the General entered his tent.

So, he played dumb. “The General?” he asked quizzically, mostly to himself. His arms changed positions to that one was crossed against his chest while the other was bent at the elbow so he could rub his chin in a thoughtful manor. “I don’t recall seeing the male. Forgive my oversight.”

Inside, he perked up slightly at her hesitation with mentioning her ‘task’, but did not mention anything about it. Instead, he said, “Watch the skies, then. I think the dragons might be getting close to this place.”

[Gosh I'm loving how this is coming along, I'm so glad I started it ^^]

I pushed my hands into the pockets of my bright white cloak, the hood of which was flapping gently behind me in the cool afternoon breeze. It was a gorgeous day outside, the light wind pushing a few stray clouds through the sky. I breathed deeply and let out a long sigh, enjoying the fresh air. The outdoors had always been my safe place, something that I loved when nothing else made me happy.

Pursuing something interesting to do, I pushed on through the packed dirt roads, pausing every once in a while to check my surroundings, just out of force of habit. It had been weeks since that action was a necessary one, but it was more ingrained into the fiber of my being than breathing was.

I spent a few minutes this way, strolling contentedly through the near empty roadways through the camp that could have easily passed as deserted. That was the only thing up to that point that struck me as odd. Should there not be watchmen constantly patrolling this place? Surely that was a necessity for a camp as large as this. I ended up just shrugging it off. It was surely only because I was nearing the center of the camp, where it would be unlikely for trouble to stir. After all, there must be guards towards the edges of the camp. Surely there must.

I was interrupted from my thoughts by the sudden appearance of voices. I strained to listen for the words, which became more clear as I grew closer to their sources. It sounded like only two people. I still couldn't quite make out their words, but I could tell that one was male and the other was female.

I smiled at this development, interested in what their conversation might be. I peeked my head around the corner, spotting the two in question immediately. One of them was focused on the ground and the other was facing away from me. I grinned and disappeared back behind the corner, listening in on their conversation, which I could now hear very clearly.

I scowled at the last line that the male spoke. Dragons might be getting close? How could he possibly know that? There hadn't been a dragon spotted in weeks.

I decided that simply listening wasn't going to get me the information that I desired, so I stepped out from behind my hiding spot, a small scowl still present on my face. While the idea of battling dragons entertained me, I had no desire for them to be close to a human camp like this. "What do you mean, dragons might be getting close?" I asked, finally coming into full view of the two conversing.

Em
She nodded, still twirling the feather between her forefinger and thumb. Maybe this wasnt from the General's hat, anyways. But the voice at the back of her head couldnt help but wonder- who else has plumes so ridiculous as this? Despite her thoughts, she knew that the General would never go anywhere without his suit and hat in perfect condition- at least not willingly. Something clicked in her brain, and Em suddenly felt very wary of the male in front of her. Since when had he been in camp?

Em was about to question him when a voice echoed from behind the male. A person appearred- another woman- from behind a tent. It seemed that she had just materialized, but Em knew better. The female had been standing behind that tent long enough to hear that last few words of their conversation. Had she been eavesdropping? Even if the two hadnt exactly been talking in secret, it was still annoying.

"Exactly that," Em snapped, a little more harsh than she wanted to. "Why were you eavesdropping?" What happened to being respectful? Em lifted her top lip in an imitation snarl, although no sound came out. How dare this female be so snoopy? Disrepectful, thats what Em thought.

I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest and lips curling up in an instinctive snarl as I glared at the girl in front of me. My stature spoke plainly that I didn't really care that she was a few inches taller and much more strongly built than I was; my smaller frame hogged as much space as possible, as if my anger had inflated me.

"I wasn't asking you, hon. And you can't honestly blame me for hearing your conversation, can you? Because dear, look around you. You're in the middle of the largest road in the entire camp, standing directly next to the General's tent. To be perfectly honest, I was just wandering around and moved in the direction of the only voices I could hear. So back off." I smirked, content with my response, and turned from the female to the male standing across from her.

Again, I was confronted with someone much taller than I happened to be. I was very clearly the smallest of the group in pretty much every aspect, though I couldn't quite put forth enough effort to care, and it certainly didn't scare me. "Anyways, as I was asking, what were you saying about dragons being close? Unlike her, who seems to be completely disinterested in what you might have to say," I shot a sideways glance at the female, scoffing as I did so, "I personally think it would honestly be foolish not to at least ask. I for one haven't heard word of nearing dragons in weeks, aside from the ridiculous mission I'm supposed to be going on later, the location of which is decently far from camp. So if you'd be so kind as to share what information you might possibly know, that would be great, thanks."

Em couldn't help but scoff as the girl completely blew her off. Did she know that her tiny little stature wouldn't help her right now? Em actually growled at the girl, sitting into her hip with her right knee bent.

"What a worrywart," Em taunted. "Scared of a few little dragons, are we now?" Even with her mocking demeanor, Em couldn't help but wonder- which mission? Certainly it couldn't be the very same one Em was enlisted to- right?

"We're located in a world where dragons are plentiful. Maybe he was just offering good luck. Ever consider that?" Em stood up to her full height and let her hand reach out to grab the end of her spear, though didn't draw her weapon. Em looked this girl up and down, taking notice of her red hair, and her surprisingly kind-looking face. That settled it, then. This girl was probably all talk.

Em would wait until the man replied, then speak afterwards as to not interrupt him. As much as Em wanted to step on the girl's toe, she held back her annoyances for the moment. "What mission?" she would ask, keeping her tone short and firm. With any luck, this girl would not be Annabeth Faye, and would not be her partner.

Ayk was surprised to see another female butt into the conversation he was having with the one that ran into him, but this one was a whole lot shorter. He shifted his stance a little so he could keep an eye on both females and his cloak fluttered at the end as he did so. Were all females this short? It had been a decade or so since he was last around one. Then again, were all females this rude or was it just those in the army? Gray-gold eyes crossed somewhat. Nope, all females were rude and put on a mask to be polite when it suited them.

When the female-who-had-run-into-him raised a hand to touch the end of her spear in response to what the female-who-eavesdropped (Ayk didn’t know their names, didn’t really care to either) said after… Ayk scowled. Okay, he had to know their names. He couldn’t keep calling them “female-who-had-run-into-him” and “female-who eavesdropped” in his head, it was starting to get confusing.

But when this new female mentioned “mission” and the one holding the spear reacted in a short tone, he grew interested. Was this the same task the other female was talking about?

"Scared? Of dragons?" I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "Please, hon, I've killed more dragons than years you've been alive." I knew she was just trying to get under my skin. I knew it, but even so, I couldn't help being bothered by this girl's attitude.

"And I realize that he might have just been wishing good luck. But, as I said, it would be completely and ridiculously foolish not to ask." I let out a long sigh and rubbed my temples, my eyes half closing as I glared at the girl from under my hood. I didn't have the patience to deal with people, and the little patience I had was running thin.

I practically choked when I saw her go to grab her weapon. It seemed like she was trying to do it secretly, but I had seen that motion hundreds of time in my lifetime before, since I had always had a tendency to frustrate people.

"Don't." I said sternly, pulling my hood off and stepping towards her, grabbing her arm with my other hand. I allowed my ex
pression to soften, begging the female to be rational. "I don't care how annoying you are; I don't want to hurt you. so please, don't do anything stupid."

There was a reason I fought dragons, not humans, because I didn't enjoy hurting another human. That was the whole bloody point of the war, to avoid the unnecessary injury and death of other people. So if that was what this female wanted, then fine. But it certainly wasn't what I wanted.

Em

More dragons than shed been alive? Em held back a very sarcastic 'really?' as she listened to the rest of her words. At the end, the other girl rubbed her temples, much like Em did when she had a headache. Did the other female really do that, just for show? Of course she did- it made everything so much more dramatic.

The other female moved towards her so fast that Em didnt have much time to react. She nodded, releasing the hold on her weapon, and with it, all the protection she felt by doing so. It seemed that the other female had given up the argument. As much as Em felt like she had won, she knew she hadnt.

"What mission?" she asked, this time with a much softer tone. However, iit still came out very firm, something that Em couldnt fix right now, She just had to know; was it her mission?

[Oh my gosh I feel so bad, I typed up a reply for this and thought I hit send, except I didn't >.< I am so, so sorry
Also yes, of course you can join.]

I thought for a moment as to whether or not I should tell this girl. I knew the general probably wouldn't want me to, but to be perfectly honest, I didn't much care what he thought.

"Fine. It's a mission from the general to hunt down some dragon nest." I waved my hand dismissively. "It's not that big of a deal, but I'm bugged that he forced me to have a partner. I normally work alone, and you can probably tell away." I laughed awkwardly and rubbed the back of my head, ruffling my hair a bit.

((okay, here's my bio:))
Name: Arka Ayudo
Age: 18
Gender/Sexuality: Female, Asexual
Personality: Arka is a very kind, generous individual with an uncanny green thumb. She is talkative and friendly, and always wants to help. Her opinion on dragons is an unpopular one, as she believes fighting them is not the solution. However, Arka is willing to be on the battle team to help as a medic.
Appearance: Standing at 4'9 with rounded features and a bright face, Arka appears much younger than she actually is. She has dark brown skin, brown eyes, and short black hair in tight curls. Her usual outfit is the simple white gown, green cloak, black boots, and gold pin of her class. She often adorns herself with flowers, and always carries a bag full of bandages, herbs, and other emergency supplies.
Fighting Style: Although her class is not a fighting one, Arka can defend herself in an emergency. Her weapon of choice is to run or try to negotiate, but she is skilled with a knife.
History (optional):
Other: Because she refuses to fight the dragons and even talks of trying to befriend them again, her loyalty is often question. Arka is also terrified of water, and cannot swim.

((should i post something to get my character started? i'll just start off with a small thing to get them into the story))

Arka had just woken up to light filtering in through the tent door. How long had she slept? What time was it? She must have been so exhausted last night from the trip, she hadn't woken up until long after dawn! Changing into her robe and cloak was easy enough, but taming her hair in this state... it was hopeless.
Her mind was racing with excitement and anticipation. Her whole life, she had wanted so badly to come face-to-face with dragons! Real, live, dragons! She had read so much about them, and the stories fascinated her. Especially the really old ones her grandmother used to tell her about when the dragons and people lived in harmony, without war. Her dream was to make that time a reality again, and for the majestic creatures to no longer be looked at in fear, but in admiration and mutual respect and friendship. Although she despised the war, joining the front lines as a healer was the best way to get close to the dragons.
After having pinned the golden shamrock to her cloak and picked up her bag, Arka walked out the tent into the bright sunlight outside. There was a group of people- warriors, by the looks of their clothing- gathered on the path. Curious, she approached them.
"Um, hello?"

OoC://

Sorry for not posting sooner! And I hope you don't mind Ayk's little development.

BiC://

Ayk’s gray-gold eyes narrowed fractionally. So she was going to find that dragon nest he had heard rumors was close by. However, even the General didn’t know why he was sending two warriors to find the nest. He had received word from the King who had received word from his Spymaster about human rebels doing something with the dragons. Even he doesn’t know the entire details and the Spymaster is his Master.

His thoughts growled at him. The only instruction he had been given was the follow whoever the General placed on the mission.

However, his growling thoughts were interrupted when another female voice made an appearance. He turned to look at the newcomer and scowled. This female was even shorter than the two he was currently talking with! This time, he spoke without a filter.

“Why the feck are all you females so short!”

Arka's ex
pression turned from one of curiosity, to confusion and slight irritation, to a calm smile.
"Well, maybe you're just tall?" she said, then seemed to regret saying that.
"Um, I'm sorry. No way to introduce myself. My name is Arka, and I've been put on the front line as a healer! I assume you all are warriors, judging by your clothing and weapons," she gestures to them, her other hand twirling a small flower she found on the side of the path. "So, what are your names, and... what's going on?"

[Gah! I forgot D: But here's a post! As a side note, since they haven't introduced themselves, may I change her name? The character I've been using recently is called Wren, and I feel like that name fits the theme better. L'emme know, okay?]

Em

Em looked, well, down at the newer female, who introduced herself as a healer. When the male finally spoke, Em furrowed her eyebrows, looking at him. "I'm only a few inches shorter than you, y'know," she said softly. There was a hint of playfulness in her voice, but not much. But when she spoke again, her voice had hardened, as her words were directed more to the two females than him. "It's them who are short."

Her mind raced back to the first female's words about the mission. Dragon nest? A partner?  "I don't suppose you're Annabeth Faye, are you?" In her mind, Em silently pleaded that this female would have no idea who she was talking about. If it did so happen that she was Annabeth, Em was in for a long trip.
