Ez shrugged. "I don't know." She didn't want to say Julie was probably dead, since it wouldn't exactly be the best thing to say to a little child. "We can't get out to find out anyway. A few minutes ago someone locked the door, and do you see how high this is? Even with a bit of luck... We wouldn't make it to the ground."

Ez shook her head. "I cannot interfere with the guards. That would get us all killed. It's what He wanted, I'm sorry." She turned around and lit a candle carrying it over to the other two she had to carry up the many flights of stairs, thank you very much. "Oh, good. You're awake. If you didn't get up sooner, you'd probably die from either staying in the same place or starvation and dehydration." She took a look out of the window, and seeing it was going to get dark, she closed the window. "You three should get more rest, though. I'll come up with food and water for you, and maybe a way to get out."

Ez patted Rika's head. "Sh, no you need to rest. You've had enough action." Ez looked out the window, still unsure about this Julie girl. She drew the curtains over the window, then picked up the candle.

Ez almost rolled her eyes. "There are things you won't understand until you're older. And no, I can't open the door. It was locked by one of the keys, and we keep it in the top of the tower in the guards' station, no stairs leading up. Only way up is if you're already inside. The door's made of stone and iron, no chance busting it open."

Ez squinted at Julie in a not-so-friendly way. "I have ideas." She lowered her voice. "You should get out of here Vigillante. A fugitive shouldn't be hanging on a window sill seventy feet in the air." She closed the window and shut the curtains, looking back at the one remaining awake. "You were knocked out by some sleeping gas with those two girls. I brought you three up here because you were the only ones who weren't dead. And, thanks to the pope, we're locked up here for about two weeks. Along with a criminal trying to crawl in the window."

Ez opened the curtains. "Are you crazy? Do you even realize where you are? Look down. There are guards down there waiting to kill anyone who comes down. You're also pretty high up in the air. Seriously?"

Ez stared at Julie as if she were a freak. "This window is the size of a blowfish. And you want to climb in. Sorry, but it's impossible. I would let you in if I could. Why don't you use some kind of knives to climb up and down?" She closed the curtains again, crossing to the other side of the room. The candle's wax was about to drip on the ground, so Ez had to blow it out before the place was set on fire. She set it on her writing desk and sat in a chair to watch the others.
