There were no words to describe the relief that Reeve felt at that moment. They were safe, for now at least. There was no telling what would be beyond those gates, but they would be facing it together, just like they always had.
Hearing the sound of the gates caused Kathline to run back into her brothers arms. He could feel that she was just as scared as he was.
"We'll be back before you know it. Don't worry," Reeve told his sister while patting her head.
Ez reluctantly moved forward across the bridge. "Come on everyone, best get out of here before the full moon." As she walked through the darkness, her skin tingled as if there were an electric storm.
Rika looked at the two other people. Why are they so afraid? She asked herself. Rika then ran up to Ez and walked in front of her. "Before full moon? Why?" she asked not making eye contact. She just looked around at the magnificient place
Ez continued to stare straight ahead. "Because that is the time the most terrible things will happen. On full moon, only one will make it to the end. It usually isn't women and children, so in case you want to get out of here alive you best hurry."
Nothing about this place seemed very good. There was death or terrible things happening in every other sentence that left the Black's mouth.
Reeve looked up at the falling feathers again and seriously rethought his earlier position about how it was obvious this was a place angels would stay. With a shrug he continued moving forward with Kat in tow like he always did.
Ez was getting dizzy, since the smell of the river was of blood and sorrow. She fought to keep her consciousness. She spoke to herself, loud enough for anyone to hear. "No turning back... Just keep going, Ez... You can do it, you're doing fine. You've got nothing to lose, come on. Get these people home, and you'll be done with this bridge for the rest of you're short life." She looked down at the ground, seeing a red brick under her foot. "Everyone get down!" She dropped to the ground, keeping one hand on the brick so the others could get down.
Rika noticed the Black fall to the ground and shout to get down. Rika did as she was told and fell flat on her stomach and covered her head with her hands. She didnt know what it was all about but she did so anyway. "Whats happening?" she shouted over to Ez
Reeve followed suite of the Black and her small friend as soon as the words had left the Black's mouth. He propped himself slightly up on one elbow so that he could shield some of Kat's small form from whatever it was that they were all hiding from.
Ez waited for the others to drop down, then she released her hand from the red brick. As soon as she did so, a shower of arrows launched across the bridge, the height of a large dog. When the wave was over, Ez stood up cautiously. She motioned for the others to stay down.
