Blood and scorch marks stung Jason's hands. His heart was racing and sweat glistened on his forehead. His breath came out in low gasps as he collapsed to his knees, pain overcoming his physical strength. He couldnt cry, but how he wanted to. He forced himself up, only to stumble foward and falling back to the earth.
Wiatt emerged from the brush and pulled Jason to his feet. He supported his friend as he dragged Jason foward. They had to get out of here. The village was in ruins, all was lost. Their families along with it. A blank look was sealed on Wiatt's face as his eyes scanned the fire marked landscape. The others had gone on without them...they were believed to be dead.
Seri manuevered her way across the dence forest, reappearing to the barren soil where Wiatt and Jason stood. She clutched a bleeding gash at her side but showed no pain on her face. She was hit hard by an attacker, but apparently the stranger did not expect her to fight back. She swallowed hard, her dark eyes cold and uncaring. The three were silent. Seri's usually pretty face was smeared with ash from the destruction.
Jason gave a sigh of relief, they were reunited. He didnt speak. Surprised that his friends had survived the rade. "Survivors?" he choked.
Wiatt looked to the ground. "Left if there are any. We're last to go." he stated in a low voice.
Seri's gaze drifted across the two boys before she motioned for them to follow. "We missed the train. But there is another soon." she said, tearing a piece of fabric from her top and wrapping her wound. She dabbed Jason's wounds and helped him walk. She lead the small group to the station where a train squeaked to a stop.
"Any more?" the conductor stated. Seri looked up, "No Sir. Just us." she said in a small voice. The man nodded in pity and helped the three on the train, he motioned foward and the train lurched foward. Seeming to leave the past behind.
Wiatt and Seri seated Jason in an open seat and Seri pulled a small medic case from her shoulder bag. She cleaned his and her wounds, along with Wiatt's the three were silent for the seemingly long train ride. After treating her wound, sleep overcame the girl and she drifted off to sleep.
