The cat's answer really ticked off the usually calm Echostar.

"You were just looking?! What kind of answer is that?! Who are you? Do you even belong to the clans?" snarled the furious leader. She wasnt going to put uop with ridiculous ansers today. Not ever.

Even in her fury, a flash of pride coursed through Echostar's body. She was proud of Silverbolt, and her proudness thickened when she saw her brave deputy bristle even more at the cat's words.

The cat attempted to get up, but his wounds were bleeding profusly. A flicker of pity shot through Echostar.

"Silverbolt- go get Maplefeather. I can handle this cat if he tries anything."

Silverbolt nodded, her eyes glimmering with malice.

" I am not of any clan..." His weak voice trailed off. He was angered that she even thought he would try anything, her she-cat had attacked him. He was now severely wounded because of her. He was only a few feet away from the forest, he had barely done anything wrong.Then a thought crossed Mockery's mind, he could run away. They may think of him as a coward, but it was better than being ridiculed by their furious leader. He knew he would leave a trail with his blood, though. And he was still weak...

When the cat confessed of not being part of any clan, Echostar let the fur along her back lay flat. She calmed down, pity for this loner overwhelming her.

"So you know not of the warrior code?" she asked kindly

"Only some, but I know I shouldn't have crossed onto your territory..." He blinked, pain and frustration filling his body. "Im sorry." He knew it didnt count as much, and he doubted the leader would forgive him, but it was best to try.

Echostar listened to the cat intently.

"I understand. FireClan forgives you. Also, I see that you are injured. I have sent my deputy- Silverbolt- to fetch our medicine cat, Maplefeather to heal your wounds. Forgive us for hurting you, we were only defending our territory." Echostar said kindly.

"You are strong, even though your wounds weaken you. You seem to be a clever, kind cat... Would you ever consider joining FireClan?" asked Echostar.

Before the cat could answer, Silverbolt rushed up with Maplefeather at her heels.

Silverbolt narrowed her eyes at the cat, but Echostar lightly flicked her tail at her deputy.

"We'll talk later." she mewed to Silverbolt.

Silverbolt nodded, and padded back to the camp.

Maplefeather crouched down to the cat, pressing the healing leaves and concoctions all over his bleeding body.

"Thank you..." murmered the cat to Maplefeather. The medicine cat blinked warmly at him.

"I never quite caught you name." mused Echostar

Echostar sensed the cat's hesitation; his surprise.

Mockery was his name.

"Ok Mockery, your wounds should heal in a few suns. The poultice will releive them of pain in a few mousetails [seconds." softly mewed Maplefeather.

"Thank you." replied Mockery.

Maplefeather left, and Echostar turned her gaze on the injured cat.

"Yes, I offer you a place in my clan. If you accept, you will be taught clan ways, and have your name changed. You are young enough to be an older apprentice, so you could become one.. If you don't accept... I understand. I'll give you untl tomorrow to think about my offer. Meet me here with your answer tomorrow at sunhigh?" meowed the leader.

Mockery nodded.

"Now, I must go, my Clan awaits me. See you tomorrow."

Silverbolt was shocked.  Slowly, she pulled herself into a sitting position right in front of the cat and looked into his eyes. Echostar opened her mouth, as if she were about to speak, but Silverbolt silenced her.  She swatted the cat's paw as he tried to put his mask back on, and he froze.

"I...I'm sorry." he said, his voice quavering.

"It's fine......you are strong, and clever.  You caught me by surprise, and that's why you got to me, you know.  Don't go telling yourself you're better than me," Silverbolt joked, licking a paw and running it over the raised fur on her back.  She continued for a few minutes, looking up as if just realizing the cat was still there.  She searched his face, from the burns and scars to his deep, dark eyes.

"Why are you here?" Her voice was calm and cold, the deputy in her overcoming her personality.

Silverbolt jolted into a sitting position.

"Let's get you to Maplefeather.  Can you get up?" Silverbolt watched him struggle for a moment before finally stalking over and nudging his flank until he was leaning against her.  He tried to stand on his own, but fell.

"Relax, I don't bite...okay, I do, but I won't bite you now."  Silverbolt laughed, helping him walk across the clearing to Maplefeather's den.  Mockery settled down in a bed of moss, stretching out as Maplefeather scurried around gathering herbs and mixing them, giving Mockery poppy seads and other herbs.  Soon, the herbs got the best of him, and Mockery dozed off.

"Will he be okay?" Silverbolt asked, once she was sure he was asleep.  Maplefeather nodded.

"Well, he's pretty roughed up, but he'll be fine."  Silverbolt sighed, nodding.
