Hawkgaze sat with his nose pressed into Rosestar's fur, his eyes filling with anguish. 'So young,' he mewed, stiffling a small wail of sorrow. 'Too young to die. Oh Rosestar, you had such a long life ahead of you!' His only kit, dead. And right when she had become leader. He had never expected to become her deputy, but now, he was to lead Brook Clan. He shivered at the thought, his shoulders hunched as he sat by Rosestar's cold body.
Sunstrike padded out of the Nursery, Leafkit and Lionkit tumbling after her. She walked up to Hawkgaze and nuzzled him affectionately. 'Where ever Rosestar may be,' she meowed, 'She would not want to see you like this. Be strong, Hawkgaze.'
Whisperpaw lay just outside the Apprentice's Den, sighing. He knew Rosestar well, for when he had started his apprenticeship, she had been close to her Warrior Ceremony. She had always had a kind word for him, praising him when she had become a warrior, and taking on his Mentorship when she had become the leader. Now she was gone, only a few sunrises after she had come back from Moon Falls.
Willowpaw sighed and toyed with the mouse she had chosen, but her appetite was gone. 'This could be a bad omen,' she murmured. 'So soon after she was made leader to catch such a bad Green Cough that she lost all nine lives.'
Scree knelt by the water, lapping up the cool liquid slowly while keeping a wary eye out for any of the pesky Clan cats. But the forest was quiet, with no patrols out whilst they said goodbye to Rosestar.
