Icefeather dipped her head to Sleetstrike as she rushed past, slipping out of the camp after Swallowtrill, she could scent Willowleaf a short distance behind. "Hey," she muttered catching up to the she-cat, "poor little kittypet back there, having to deal with Sleetstrike....If Leafshade takes Spidermask for his patrol, then let's just hope that cat will be okay. I think Sleetstrike was calming down though," she added as an afterthought.

The patrol was late, the sun was already high in the newleaf sky. Hopefully the ReedClan border was still secure, it hadn't been checked for a while, and the clan was probably up by now.

Leafshade flicked his tail to show he understood, and beckoned to Bluefrost. "Come on, before Sleetstrike claws us...," he muttered. "Wait though. Hey Spidermask, want to come with us?" He called to the warrior, who seemed eager for something to do. Not waiting for a reply, the black and white tom slipped through the entrance to the camp, and out into the forest.

The dawn patrol's scent trail was still clear, but fading on the bracken near the camp. Leafshade padded forward a few tail lengths, and then sat down to wait for his patrol.

ReedClan

Lakeripple let out a faint sigh of relief, the cats in the den hadn't heard her, but she had heard most of their coversation over Jaypaw's excited yowls that Elmrise was having her kits. So the cat's name was Kitty, and Swanflight was to be her mentor. Lakeripple huffed quietly to herself. That was a lucky cat. Though she was older, she had only ever trained one apprentice herself.... and the little she-cat had died after a horrible case of greencough.

The cat's in Falconstar's den had left already, and Lakeripple figured she'd better find Sandflight and Swanflight. She was planning on asking the deputy if Kitty could accompany them, to show her the territory. She also thought she might ask if she could help with Kitty's training, if the she-cat decided to stay. Lakeripple had once been an outsider here too, she thought she might be able to help the new cat to avoid, and deal with some of the problems that would surely arise over her staying with the clan. She was also eager to play a part in another cat's training, she had wanted another apprentice for a while now.

Lakeripple slipped from the shadows, and padded over to Sandflight. "Swanflight asked me to lead a hunting patrol, he wants you to come. He'll join us too," she dipped her head to the she-cat in front of her. She remembered how this cat had been made an apprentice several moons after she herself became a warrior. She suddenly realized how old she really was. Well she wasn't old for a cat, but was closer in age to the senior warriors in the clan. But the clan was still quite young as a whole, and there had only been a few generations that had made it to the elder stage.

"Hey Swanflight!" Lakeripple called to the white tom, who was near the nursury. Before we headout, could I have a word with you?"

Echopaw was surveying the clan curiously. So much was happening, Elmrise was having another litter of kits, and a kittypet had emerged from Falconstar's den. He looked to his mentor, still awaiting her descision.

ReedClan
Riverstone began coming towards Falconstar and once in vicinity, he gave a curt nod and meowed, "Yes, Falconstar?  What might you need?"

"Bluefrost, GET OVER HERE!" Leafshade called angrily. The tom looked like he was going to pick a fight with Sleetstrike. "WE need to hunt," he added hurriedly, he was afraid Sleetstrike might claw him for being loud and somewhat dissrespectful.

Lakeripple turned to Sandflight. "Go ahead, we'll catch up to you later," she murmured in the she-cat's ear. Standing up again, Lakeripple padded lightly over to a shaded and concealed spot, near the Apprentice's den. She was pretty sure that it would be better if she and Swanflight weren't everheard talking about Kitty. If some cats found out too soon, it could endanger the young cat's survival in the clan. There were some cats that she wouldn't put it past them to murdur the she-cat before she even became an apprentice.

Sitting in the shadows, she watched Riverstone trot over to Falconstar's den. Why's he going in there? she wondered curiously. She noticed Jaypaw shrinking back as his mentor drew closer. He must know about Kitty! Lakeripple realized, a warm pur rising in her chest. She knew the young cat would welcome Kitty as a new den mate. Then she shifted her yellow gaze again to Falconstar's den's entrance, waiting for Swanflight.

rnPinestar was now awake, and he padded out of his den. What in the name of StarClan is going on out here? He looked around, and noticed an unfamilliar cat almost immediately. He narrowed his eyes, and began to walk toward the cat. His claws were unsheathed in case it attacked him, but he had noplans of attacking it first. He was now only a couple of fox-lengths away from the cat, and he stopped there, not really wanting to get much closer than he already was. His face showed no emotion. He didn't really want to greet the cat by going ' Hello, I'm Pinestar. Who are you?' So, he narrowed his eyes. "You're trespassing, you know."

Redwing padded out of her den to find Echopaw and the rest of the patrol (If they haven't already left.)

Echopaw looked at his mentor. "Well? Are you ready to go?"

Lakeripple gazed non-blinking, at the white tom in front of her. Flicking an ear casually, she spoke with a clear voice, determined not to show guilt: "Look," she began, "I saw you and Rabbitfoot leave the nursury. But there was another cat with you, she smelled like a kittypet. I wasn't sure what was going on, so I followed your group. I hid in the shadows outside of Falconstar's den, and listened from the begining." Lakeripple gave Swanflight another, calculating look, then plunged on. "So you're going to be a mentor," she purred. She opened her eyes again and voiced what she'd been thinking: "I'd like to help you train Kitty. Let's face it, the clan, and Falconstar, don't want me to have another apprentice. Most of them blame me for Rainpaw's death," she finished, almost inaudable as she dropped her voice, trying not to relive the memories that still haunted her. "Even though she died from greencough. They think I didn't train her to be strong enough."

Lakeripple looked up, waiting for the tom's reply.

Icefeather laughed softly as Swallowtrill talked. It was so easy to talk to the other cat, she was funny, and good at what she did. "Remember when I was an apprentice? When that fat squirrel got away from me, Sleetstrike nearly shredded my ears," she purred warmly. So far they hadn't seen, or smelled any ReedClan cats. It was strange, their scent markers hadn't been checked yet.

Icefeather paused to rub her back on the bracken above her head. A few more days and the two clans would gather under the full moon. If anything was wrong with ReedClan, they would find out then.

Non-Clan
Byrd's ears pricked as she heard another cat's meow.  One she had heard before, but never really became known.  Always considered 'some cat.'  But this time, it was calling for her.  Trotting towards the source, Byrd saw a black cat, looking as if she were about her own age.
"Yes?  What's your name?" Byrd asked, hopping up on the fence with the black cat. [or at least I think Ebony's on a fence o-o ]

ReedClan
Riverstone's eyes narrowed at the thought, but quickly accepted the leader's words.
"Very well, Falconstar."
His thoughts drifted off to what might happen in the future, having a kittypet in the Clan.  Then it became more of a 'what's her warrior name going to be?', 'is she going to be an apprentice or warrior?' sort of topic.  Perhaps we'll leave this curiosity to settle itself out later, during the ceremony.
Riverstone, with his word given to Falconstar, padded away with a curt nod and wondered if he should go hunting.  ...Or 'stalk' Kitty.

Paleflower looked up at her mentor, Shadefire.  With a smile [I don't care if cats can't smile >8I] she pawed through a few more herbs and nodded.  Efficiently, she had sorted through what Ashfoot had messed up yesterday, and gone through a supply check.  "We're running low on cobwebs and goldenrod."
