OOC: Stewpid me, I could've just checked that >.< Sorry... I forgot about the Mentor x Apprentice pairing post....

Oh, and for people who are behind slightly....

In ReedClan, the two foxes - a yearling and its mother - have been scared off by Swanflight and Lakeripple, but the cub somehow found its way back to camp. Greypaw fended it off by himself, and following treatment from Rabbitfoot, is currently resting. Swanflight and Lakeripple have returned to their home, with Lakeripple awaiting treatment for her wounds. And the foxes, assumedly, have no intentions to return anytime soon....

Yah, just an idea I had, guys. With the first page of each new page for this thread, we summarise recent events in big red letters so that people who have missed a few posts don't have to read through it all. I've used it before for a rolpelay and it worked :)

((Sanfight?))

Lakeripple hissed angrily, crouched in a half-standing position, her muscles screaming in protest. "Stupid fox cub, I will have him!" she snarled through gritted teeth. The worry in Swanflight's eyes surprised her slightly, but she figured that was a natural response, given her situation. The pain from the scratches on her flank was beginning to lessen slightly.

Lakeripple's vision was starting to sharpen, become clearer. The activity in her mind seemed to slow as well. "can you help me?" she whispered to Swanflight, her tone weary. All she wanted was to lie down in a soft bed of moss and sink into her dreams. Then again, lately her dreams had been troubled by nightly visits from a shadowy form. It wasn't a cat, but more like some extremely annoying form of a memory she'd forgotten.

Reedclan
Palestripe narrowed her eyes, her fur on end. "He went through the dirtplace tunnel to go back to try and help, when Lakeripple told us to leave! He wasn't at camp! I trusted Greypaw to do what he was told, not wander off like a head-strong kit!" She noticed Greypaw lower his head.

Greypaw mumbled, "It's true. Palestripe took me out there to help, then we went back. But I wanted to do what I thought was right."

Palestripe muttered, "You nearly got yourself killed in the process." She lashed her tail angrily, not mad at Greypaw, but herself. Palestripe turned her head to face Rabbitfoot. "You may not and cannot tell me where to keep my paws." she growled.  She turned, her fur fluffed up and her tail lashing, as she sat down by the nursery, looking at the camp entrance, and sniffing the air.

OOC: I know, there's a Swanflight and a Sandflight in ReedClan.... >.>

Swanflight
ReedClan

"I'll try my best," Swanflight promised, and edged closer gingerly. "You may lean on me if you wish." Since he was considerably larger than Lakeripple, he could probably accept her weight. And despite the frenzied display of flying claws he'd performed before the foxes, he wasn't all that exhausted. Drained slightly, yes, but nowhere near as tired as his friend was. "You must take your time."

The tabby she-cat's eyes darkened. "I don't have Swanflight's authority, but it's my duty to know how to assess and decide what's better for your welfare. That includes giving you, anyone, commands from time to time." She turned to Greypaw, allowing Palestripe to depart. There seemed to be a little disappointment in her eyes. "And if that's true, then you are a truly foolish apprentice. Even if it's just outside the camp, you do not risk leaving this place for the sake of being heroic. Foxes are for warriors, not apprentices. Even I know that. Now follow me."

She padded towards another grassy tunnel, but this one was more secluded. It led to a thick clump of gorse that grew out of the rare soil that marked starkly against the sand of ReedClan territory. Small packets of herbs and supplies lay in organized piles at the roots of the gorse shrub.

"Sit down carefully, and don't move too much."

((Heh. I like the idea of summarizing what's happening so far.))

Lakeripple meowed a quick thank, and shifted her weight so that she could lean on Swanflight. Despite his size, she tried not to lean too much on him, he was tired too, although not nearly as much as she. Inch by inch the two cats crept carefully through the forest. When they were within a few fox-lengths from the camp entrance, Lakeripple paused, and murmured: "there's not room for two cats in the thorn tunnel, but I think I can manage." Without waiting for a reply, Lakripple edged away from Swanflight's side, and gingerly stepped into the tunnel.

The thorns scraped her sides, but Lakeripple was careful not to brush her flank against the spikey sides. As the tunnel widened, Lakripple let out the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. Now to find Rabbitfoot....

((Okay, so not the greatest post, that's for sure XD))

Reedclan

Greypaw did as he was told, as he sat down. He looked down at his paws, feeling more shame then he did pain. I just wanted to do what's right. He thought sullenly.

OOC: Just lost a whole post I'd written by clicking on a silly bookmark D:<

Rabbitfoot
ReedClan medicine cat

"Now," Rabbitfoot began, spinning her paw around a spider's web that had been built in the skeletal branches of the gorse, gathering a misty bauble around it. "I'll apply this to your wound to reduce any bleeding."

She shuffled over on three legs, one forepaw occupied with the bundle of cobwebs around it. Carefully, she reached out, and gently spread out the fine threads that had stuck together in places to form bandage-like strands. Rabbitfoot eased the cobwebs over the scuffled fur, their retained stickiness gripping his pelt quite easily.

"Come back later and I'll rub some chervil leaf paste on it, to reduce chances of infection. Now be careful where you go. No hunting or training for a while. Just rest."

Greypaw nodded as he padded out of the den and went into the apprentice's den, avoiding Palestripe's cold stare as he went by. He found a nest in the back corner of the den as he sat laid down, rested his head on his paws, and let sleep take him before any other thoughts entered his mind.

Swanflight
ReedClan deputy

The trek to the camp had been a disquieting and tense one. But once they reached the safety of the thorn tunnel entrance, free from the peril of being picked off the territory like beetles from an overturned scrap of turf, Swanflight eased his bristled fur. With Lakeripple so vulnerable, he was certain the vixen and her child wouldn't think twice about striking them both, should they return.

He allowed her to go first, then followed closely behind her. Swanflight wasn't sure what to anticipate in the camp, really - turmoil and terror, or an eerie silence from the absence of cats. Neither Rabbitfoot or Greypaw could be seen. That concerned him.

Swanflight noticed Palestripe a few pawsteps away. The deputy eyed her for a moment, remembering his rage at the apprentice's appearance, at her abandonment of the fight. He approached her then, eyes set, slightly cold. "Where is Greypaw?" he asked quietly. But suddenly the apprentice emerged out of Rabbitfoot's quarters, to recede into the apprentices' den. Swanflight had momentarily glimpsed the mass of cobwebs on one side - an indication he'd been hurt. The deputy whipped around again. "Why is he injured? Tell me everything that's happened!"

Palestripe meowed, "In the apprentice's den." she couldn't hide her drooping eyes, as she had grown tired. "He's got a nasty bite on his flank." I am responsible for it. I'm a warrior, but I can never do anything right! She thought sadly. If only I could just do something right, just once. She prayed to Starclan silently, hoping she could prove herself to be a great warrior.

Lakeripple dragged herself to stand a little ways behind Swanflight, listening. She wasn't eavsdropping, but she had her head cocked slightly, her muscles tensed as she thought of what she'd heard earlier that day. Briefly, Lakeripple wondered what had beome of Kitty.

If Rabbitfoot was with Greypaw, she didn't really want to meet the little apprentice at the moment. The treck back to camp had only worn Lakeripple out more, and all she could think of was sinking into her bed of moss. Apart from that, she didn't really want to leave Swanflight's side, she felt as if they'd both just survived a forest fire.

Exhaustion won over though, and Lakeripple sank to her stomache on the ground, her paws tucked neatly under her. She lashed her tail, sweeping the dust around to create a little ridge around her, where she put her head down, not listening to the conversation taking place in front of her.

Swanflight
ReedClan

"Yes, I can see he's going into the apprentice's den, and yes, I can see he has a nasty bite on his flank," Swanflight retorted quietly, impatience sapping at his voice. "I want to know why."

Motion in the background caught Swanflight's eyes - Rabbitfoot. Without a sound she approached them both, her tail swaying with deliberate slowness above her. There was an illegible look about her face.

"A fox broke in," she offered discreetly. "And it attacked Greypaw. He's not too badly injured, but excessive movement won't favour him. And as of yet, there is no sign of the fox." Her eyes narrowed. "I don't think it'll come back any time soon, anyway.  I didn't see what happened but I have no doubt Greypaw fought admirably."

She turned to look at Lakeripple, and her eyes became round again, registering the warrior's weary state. "As for you, you'd better come with me, Lakeripple. Come to my den and I'll see what I can do for you." The medicine cat stood, turned, and began to pad away towards her den without another word.

Swanflight was left facing Palestripe. But then his tail suddenly drooped, his head hung, and an air of fatigue quickly gathered about him. "Patrols still need to be set. As well as a hunting party. But, the Clan is so scattered... With this unnecessary incident involving the foxes, I doubt anyone will have the courage to set out into the territory again. And neither would I blame them. For certain, no apprentices must leave the camp by themselves for today." His mind momentarily flickered to Elmrise, like a leaf turning over in the briefest of breezes, but sighed his thoughts away. Had she had her kits yet? How many had been born? Was she safe?

Palestripe meowed, "I can go hunting if you wish." she glanced at the nursery behind her then back at Swanflight. Her tail curled over her paws as she relaxed her shoulders again. She knew she'd probably wrenched it or hurt it somehow, she jsut didn't want it to be noticed. A point in her shoulder did stick out slightly, so when she stood it looked even more awkward. Palestripe added, "Or I can stay in camp."

Lakripple didn't have the energy left to protest. "As long as your treatment involves lots of sleep, I'll be happy to come," she meowed weakly. She dragged herself silently to her paws, and nearly passed out from fatigue. "Okay, I'm coming," she muttered to herself, beginning to stagger after Rabbitfoot as the medicine cat made her way across the clearing.

With the little energy she had left, Lakeripple raised her head to look around. She saw a lot of frightened faces poking out from the shadows. Her vision began to cloud with the effort of holding her head up, so Lakeripple dropped it again.

After what seemed like half a lifetime, Lakripple was pushing her way into Rabbitfoot's den. She fixed her yellow gaze on the medicine cat, and meowed: "I'm here, so fix me up." For whatever reason, Lakeripple wasn't in the friendliest of moods. Whether it had come from fighting off a couple foxes, she wasn't sure. Then again, she was very tired, and she sometimes got a little impatient when she was exhausted.

Swanflight
ReedClan deputy

"Hunting?" he echoed. "I would have to send a party, perhaps even larger than usual, in case the foxes reappear." He took a moment to make a third schedule, and names began to roll of his tongue as easily as acorns. "Redwing will take Echopaw and Jaypaw on a patrol. Riverstone will lead a hunting party, consisting of Sandflight and you - but only if you truly feel well enough for it. Lakeripple and myself will remain here with Greypaw and Kitty, to recover and guard. Falconstar can do what he thinks is best for him. In fact, I could hunt nearer to the camp, so that I can return quickly enough if something happens..."

He sighed audibly. "I'm being selfish. But, I can't let things become too careful... not with Elmrise..."

Rabbitfoot
ReedClan medicine cat

Rabbitfoot excused the clipped edge to Lakeripple's words. But something concerned her. The warrior had suddenly become exceptionally weak; a supposed soreness made her body move hesitantly, slowly. She was ruffled, but she wasn't all that torn up. Perhaps she was coming down with a cold?

"Don't worry, you'll be resting after I'm done with you," the medicine cat replied gently. Somehow, she felt calmer when other cats were stressed. Rabbitfoot lost patience only with careless, senseless, or downright nosy Clan-members. Lakeripple's agitation did not rattle her. "Just tell me where you hurt or ache. Tell me anything you think can help me. The more specific you are, the better my accuracy in deciding what to treat you with."

Lakeripple sighed. "My flank hurts, obviously, I think the scratches are still there. My right shoulder aches a little, that's the one that Swanflight couldn't support. Other than that, I'm just a little tired," she concluded with a yawn for emphasis. Lakeripple blinked open one lazy eye, it was clouded with weariness.

"Back in the clearing, were you really telling the truth about Greypaw? I know him well enough to assume he went out looking for the foxes. I don't want you to tell me what he may, or may not have done, but I think someone needs to be keeping more of an eye on him."
