(Do you mind if Basil doesn't really know the other pups? If not, I can edit this, no worries. Long post is loooong.)
Basil almost never yawned, especially not when waking up. At any given moment, something could be listening, and one little yawn, and they know you're sleepy and defenseless.
But in this case, he allowed himself a little one. Digging all twelve of his front claws into the dirt of the borough, he stretched out first his right leg, then his left leg, which had been aching worryingly all afternoon. And it did still hurt, especially when he stretched it that far- oh, a just a tiny bit longer- and there, all done. It felt better, he told himself, and from then on decided to ignore it. Ignoring unpleasant things made it much easier to enjoy yourself.
Where was everyone? Clicking his tongue impatiently, he sniffed around for any traces of his kin, though it was more for show than anything. As always, his senses registered nothing, and he trotted out of the underground den in an impatient huff, and emerged blinking into the bright outside world.
Midday already? Sometimes he regretted the fact that Pine and the clan let him sleep in. Though he was a bit different from the other rabbits, it was a bit disappointing to miss them.
Oops, unpleasant thought. This took a bit more effort to ignore, but he decided to take a stroll to relieve his feelings. Maybe he'd find a few roots too, or berries. It was laos an excellent time to practice his hop, which he always seemed to have a problem with.
Five minutes in, and already he was beginning to trot! No, he mustn't make a fuss. With twice as much determination, he concentrated on how lovely the morning was, how bright everything was- wait was that a wolf? On a tree?
