Poppy glanced at Kitty, sweeping Crispin up by his arm and leading him away from the girl so they could talk in private. She stopped, let his arm go and stared him in the eyes. "You're not going to die, Crispin." She said softly. "Nobody is here." She explained to him slowly in a low voice about how the wizard had set healing wards around the isle, and the humans were only here to be fed to werewolves, vampires, and shapeshifters. She wiped away her tears with a shaky hand. "Nobody's dying here."

Crispin's eyes opened wide. Here was his breaking point.
"How can you say no one is dying? If they are to be fed to you? I love you dearly, but it is so ghastly..." He had apologetic sparkles in his eyes. But he was especially tender on the subject of others' death, after what happened to his family.

Poppy's face twisted into a pained ex
pression. "They don't die here," she said, "They get shipped off..." She pinched her eyes shut. "I, personally, hate the idea, but my boss...." She blinked back tears. "You don't understand, Crispin." She said in a whisper: "It's either I do what he says, and ship all these humans out to die, or they kill my little sister." Pain racked through her body, and she had to lean against a tree to keep from collapsing onto the ground.

Crispin's eyes got even larger. "I understand what it's like, to lose someone you love. It's not worth going through. Protect your sister..." He fought back tears. He wanted to kiss her, so badly... His eyes pleaded clearly.

Poppy knew what he wanted, but didn't want to give it to him. If she kissed him... her nerve would shatter and she wouldn't be able to kill him. She looked at him with bleak eyes. "She's still human," she said soflty. "She's only three years old... They killed my mum and dad..." She shook her head. "But I never did like my parents..."

Poppy stared back hopelessly. If the boss finds out about Crispin and I, he'll make sure that Crispin gets shipped out to someone who'll kill him slowly and painfully. And then he'll kill my sister. And he's human. He knows now, so now will be the perfect time to end it all; before it gets out of controll. She blinked, shaking her head slightly as she took a step closer to him. "I'm so sorry," she said quietly, feeling her fangs dig into her gums, reminding her of her thirst.

He bowed his head in defeat. "I love you... so much. Take care of your sister... and yourself. I knew I'd die, but never expected this... Don't be sorry," He whispered, afraid of what was about to happen. He shivered, his hands sweating urgently. His mind told him to get the heck out of there, but his heart told him to stay. ((So depressingly romantic. ;o))

Poppy, in one swift movement, struck him in the side of the head, near his temple, which knocked him unconscious on the spot. "Silly human.." she muttered, picking him up in her arms with inhuman strength. Tears streamed slowly down her face. "I could never kill you, Crispin." Or the other boy, she added silently. She walked, until she was forced to drop Crispin in a small hollow, where nobody would find him. She shoved a note in his hand, and then sprinted away, stopping only when she ran into Nathaniel. "Oh, Hi." Her note read, Dear Crispin, I've placed you somewhere nobody can find you. Please don't move. I'll bring you food and water later, and please forgive the throbbing in your head; I had to knock you out. Sorry. From, P.B. ((LOL. Her initials are P.B. ;D So, I play, P.B. & J. -giggle-))

Crispin lay, in total peace. He thought he was dead, but he wasn't. He read the given note when he woke up. He was in love. He hoped she was too.

Kitty screamed jumping. She turned around pointing a sharp stick at Jace. She lowered it and let out a large breath of air, "Sorry. You just...Scared me." She said tossing the stick on the ground. She looked over at the elk, "Eh...I don't know. I just came and stumbled along it. Maybe it was a bear or something." She shurgged.
