"Doctor, will she be alright?" Sarah asked, fear in her voice.
Cas.sie heard the doctor sigh, and the shuffle of papers as he looked through the clipboard. A tense silence filled the air, taut with fear and grief.
"I don't know," replied the doctor finally. Sarah made a strangled sound. Cas.sie wanted to hold her, to comfort her, but she couldn't. She was trapped here, locked inside a body that had become a stranger to her. "The disease has progressed far. We've tried every cure that we can think of. The fact remains - we have no idea what she has. We've looked up every medical case, and there are no reports of something like Cas.sie's ailment. I'm sorry to tell you this, but your sister is lucky she has survived this long."
Fear choked Cas.sie. She didn't want to die. She didn't want to have to say goodbye to her friends, and Sarah, and Buttercup, the kitten Sarah had gotten for her in the hopes that she'd get well soon.
But Cas.sie knew she was dying. She couldn't do anything to change that.
"Excuse me, ma'am? Visiting hours are over," a nurse said over the intercom. Sarah's voice was choked with tears as she responded. "I know. I was just leaving." Cas.sie felt a brush of lips as Sarah kissed her forehead before rushing out the door.
"Sleep, Cas.sie," said the doctor. Cas.sie sank into a drowsy oblivion as the doctor put some sort of painkiller into her I.V. bag.
~
Cas.sie woke suddenly. At first she thought she was at home, but when she tried to move, the tubes and wires reminded her that she might never go home again. Tears welled up in her eyes, and fear cut off her breath. Calm down, Cas.sie told herself. Just calm down. Breathe.
The hairs on the back of Cas.sie's neck prickled. Someone was in the room with her. She fearfully shot a glance at the alarm clock on the table next to her bed. It was one o'clock in the morning. What would someone be doing in here? Cas.sie couldn't hear anything, save for the whir of machines as they measured her heartbeat and blood pressure. She just had the sense of being watched.
Cas.sie would have jumped, if she could, when someone sat down on the bed next to her. It was a young woman, not too much older than Cas.sie herself. Long auburn hair flowed down her back. The woman wore a white dress, beautiful in its simplicity.
"I am Aeviki," the woman said softly. Her voice was smooth and alluring, with the faintest hint of an accent. "I have chosen you to be one of my own. Drink." The woman held a worn blue bottle to Cas.sie's lips. Cas.sie resisted at first, but finally gave in before the lack of oxygen killed her. But, she finally decided, why not? I'm dying anyways. Whatever was in the bottle was delicious. Cas.sie drank hesitently at first, but then faster and faster. Aeviki had to slow her before she choked and awoke the entire hospital.
"Sleep now, Kasu." Aeviki faded into oblivion. Cas.sie blinked drowsily. What had the woman called her? Her name was Cas.sie, not Kasu.
Thud-thud. Thud-thud. Thud-thud.
Thud-.
An unbroken beep rose from the moniter measuring Cas.sie's heartbeat.
~
"...We commend her body to the earth, so she returns to the Lord who made her..."
Cas.sie blinked and opened her eyes. What was going on? Why was it so dark? She lifted her hands and touched cold wood. Fear closed her throat. Wails came from outside, wherever that was.
"Rest in peace, Cas.sie," whispered Sarah.
What? I'm not dead! Cas.sie thought fearfully. But if you aren't dead, then where are you? a voice in her head remarked snidely.
Cas.sie felt a faint burning sensation. It felt like fire was coarsing through her veins. The sensation grew stronger and stronger as the minutes pas.sed. A demon took over Cas.sie's mind, and everything went black.
~
Cas.sie opened her eyes to silence. She felt good, better than she ever had before. She sighed happily and looked down.
And froze.
Sarah was lying in her arms. Her lifeless eyes bored holes into Cas.sie's own. Blood soaked her sister's shirt. Her throat was torn open, making bile - or something like it - rise in Cas.sie's throat.
Cas.sie looked around her. Dead people were strewn around her, each sharing the characteristics Sarah showed. Ex-boyfriends, friends, teachers. All were dead. Cas.sie's head swam. "What happened to me?"

Plot;;;
When Cas.sie Hart came down with a mysterious disease, no doctor knew what it was. They tried every cure, but nothing worked. A mysterious woman, Aeviki, came to Cas.sie in the hospital and gave her something to drink in a small bottle. What Cas.sie doesn't know is this -
Aeviki is a vampire.
She is one of the oldest vampires, but she had no fledglings, until she met Cas.sie. She felt bonded to the young human, somehow, and gave Cas.sie her blood. She gave the human the name Kasu, which means "bright" in the vampiric tongue.
And now Cas.sie is a vampire too, trapped in a dark world with no sense of direction.
Rules;;;
