"Katherine does not love you, Damon." Severus replied coolly. "And Lily didn't love you." Damon retorted coldly. Severus' eyes widened before he glared at Damon. His hand tightened before he threw Damon against the wall. He turned on his heel, stalking out of the room and into the moonlight. "Damon, you jacka.ss!" Stefan yelled. |

"No, because I know why," Melanie snarled, her head shooting up to glare at Damon. "It's because I'm the closest thing to my mother he has. I'm almost positive it's the only reason, too." She got up off the couch and stormed out the door.

Damon returned the glare before standing up. "Shut up, Stefan. Let's just go." He sighed, walking out of the door. - Severus sat down against the pilled, taking a shaky breath as he held his head in his hands. Damon is right, she chose James over you. He was everything you weren't. The evil voice in the back of his head told him. Severus shook his head, attempting to banish the thoughts. He was cool, he was pure-blood, he was a champion. You were nothing. Just a greasy haired boy that got picked on. "Stop." Severus pleaded, his voice barely a whisper. |

Melanie stomped up to her dormitory, tears streaming down her cheeks. "God freaking' damnit," she snarled to herself as she pushed away thoughts that came into her head about Severus not loving her.

"Stop. I love Melanie." Severus told himself. No, you love Melanie's eyes. You love Melanie for every part of Lily that shines through her. "No." Severus shook his head slowly. Yes. You love Melanie because she has Lily's attitude... And you hate her because of her hair. You hate her because she's sarcastic like her father. "NO!" Severus said, feeling a tear run down his cheek. "No. I love Melanie for her sense of humor. I love her for her sarcasm. I-I love her for those eyes. I love her for her. I love her because she sees past what others see. She sees me." He said determinedly, standing up. He was not going to run from his problems. Severus wiped the traitorous tear from his cheek, taking off into the castle. |

Melanie screamed into her pillow, feeling so cliche at the moment for taking her anger out into the pillow. It was like a bad sitcom. She didn't care who heard her, though most of them were heavy sleepers and didn't even flinch. Tears streamed down her face, herself choking out soft sobs. "I-I can't be c-crying over this." She inhaled and exhaled three times. It was something she had remembered her father telling her. Melanie might have only been two, but she remembered things like that. Her mom singing her to sleep, her dad teaching her how to punch at a young age...but she couldn't think about that now. It would only upset her more. She calmed herself down and went into the nearest bathroom, splashing water onto her face. Her bloodshot, puffy eyes were starting to return to normal. Melanie was glad that she hadn't worn any makeup or it would've been all down her cheeks. She...she had to find Severus. They needed to talk, and they both knew it.

Damnit. It was dark. Severus needed to find her, needed to rea.ssure her. He wanted to hold her in his arms and tell her over and over again that the voice is wrong.

Melanie wandered around the castle, not sure of where he was. It got really dark all of a sudden, and she blinked a couple of times so her eyes would adjust. It didn't work.

Thank God Severus is a spy. All those days in the dark have given him night-vision. "Lumos." At least he remembered his wand. |
