"Whatever!" Melanie yelled, throwing her hands up. "I do what I do because I love you. Because I don't want to hurt you anymore. I'll never, ever forgive myself for what I've already done. Don't you get it?! I'm only doing this because I'm afraid to hurt you. To...lose you." She twisted the doorknob, walked out, and slammed the door behind her.

Severus quickly opened the door, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her in before slamming the door. "NO, you don't get to walk away form this. Not again." He snarled, grabbing his wand. He wasn't her Severus, He was himself. "Legilimens!" |

"Damnit!" Melanie said, preforming Occulmency to the best of her ability. She did have some training by Dumbledore, from that one time where Voldemort had been getting into her and her brother's minds. Unlike Harry, she had excelled in the subject. Very well. She managed to block out her thoughts from Severus, then tried to break free of his grip. She squeezed her eyes shut, knowing that looking at him would cause her to lose focus.

Severus dug harder, knowing that Dumbledore had taught her well, but not well enough. If he could trick the Dark Lord day to day, he could do this. He started to feel the trickle of memories, seeing them flash before his eyes.

Damn. Melanie could feel him finding her memories, her thoughts, her emotions. She tried harder, feeling something like a mental wall block out the thought he most wanted. What she "knew" was a rumor, of course. She wasn't absolutely sure if it was true or not, which was half the reason she wouldn't tell it to him. Harry could've made it up. Instead, she tried letting others flow out to drown him out-The good ones. Her birthday party, her first kiss with him, the way it made her feel when it happened. Love and warmth. The way she felt as she held his hand when they Apparted together that one time, how she noticed that they fit like a puzzle piece. The first time he told her he loved her. How she immediately knew that she did, too.

This was not going well. He was not seeing what he wanted. He felt the wall, and he suddenly knew how to break it. He filtered all of his emotions at her, hitting Melanie with all the bad memories of them.

"Get out of my fu*king mind," Melanie spat through her teeth, trying not to look at the memories. It was difficult, but she managed to stay focused. She had to. The wall stayed put, though it took much more effort to do so.

It was a dirty play, but Severus knew what to do. He filtered all the emotions he felt every time Melanie had kissed Damon.

Melanie squeezed her eyes shut again, but it did no help. The feelings were still there. She answered them with feelings of her own. More love, more warmth. The way she felt kissing Damon versus the way she felt kissing him. Kissing Severus was much more warm, more pa.ssionate, more right. She tried her best to ignore the negative feelings. Focus on the warm ones, the happy ones.
