Melanie turned around. "Uh oh. You'd better go. Guess I'll meet you in the Great Hall?"
We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip.

"Nono, they are screaming because they love me." Stefan chuckled, gesturing at the food they now presented to them.

Melanie laughed. "Oh, I see how it is," She said to the elves jokingly.

"I missed you, too. So much. I missed everyone so much..." Melanie shook her head. "I missed this place so much."

"I felt the need to. I didn't do it for my benefit. I did it for...everyone else's. I couldn't hurt anyone anymore. Or cause anyone anymore trouble."

"Yes, Melanie, it is. You left because Sev doesn't want you anymore, so you felt rejected. That's why you left."

"No, it isn't!" Melanie said, angrier now. "That was only a small part of the reason."

"No, you're right. You also left because Damon finally gave up on you. Not a great feeling, having two men stop chasing your tail like everybody else does. You left because not one, but two men decided you weren't worth the chase anymore."

"That's not why!" Melanie said, growling. "You don't even know." With that, she turned around on her heel and stormed off.

Melanie sighed. She had never been mad at Stefan before. It didn't feel right. She slid down against the wall, feeling like she had nowhere else to go. Once again, she had that feeling that she didn't belong here. Or anywhere.

The Shadows pulled on Stefan, rubbing on him affectionately. Stefan mad was uncommon.

Melanie stood up, thinking. She knew coming back here was a mistake. And now she had to deal with the consequences. She figured that she should find Hermione and Harry. And Ron, too. They'd probably be in the Great Hall since it was mealtime. Melanie tried her best to smile and keep her head up. Act like nothing was wrong, even though everything was. "Melanie?!" Hermione was the first to see her. She ran up to her and squeezed her, not caring about all the eyes that were now following her. Melanie hugged her friend back, tears streaming down her face. "My God. Hermione, let me go. I can't breathe," She said with a laugh, and Hermione let go of Melanie with a smile. "I missed you, Mel. So much." Melanie smiled back. "I missed you too, 'Mione." Melanie knew Hermione wasn't going to ask why she had left. Hermione would understand that Melanie didn't want to talk about it. Harry was next. Melanie was the one that ran to him this time, hugging and laughing and crying. "Harry," Melanie sighed, kissing her brother on the cheek, "I missed you. It's not the same being with the Durselys without someone to suffer with me." Harry squeezed her slightly. "I was so worried about you, Melly." Melanie smiled softly and then went over to Ron. "Hey, kid," She said, ruffling his hair. "I...I missed you, Mel," Ron said, his face turning redder than his hair. "I missed you too, Ron," Melanie said, laughing. It felt good to be back. It really did. But there still was a place in Melanie's heart that was empty. And she felt as though she couldn't live without that fraction of her heart.
