The top two chains are the real ones of course.
The bottom two are what some people thought
should have been, but there was a mixup.
Do you see the resemblance between the ones that should have been?
Venonat -> Butterfree is incredibly obvious. Same colours, same feet, same antennae, same eyes, same hands, even the same mouth and fangs.
Caterpie -> Metapod -> Venomoth also makes more sense than Venonat -> Venomoth. Venonat is the spitting image of Metapod despite their colour difference. The prongs at the top of their head? Yeah.
Many people think that it's ridiculous that there was a mixup; the names fit, first of all.
They also think this because of the fact that coccoons (Metapod) evolve into butterflies (Butterfree) in the natural world.
xD Well, so what, people? So what if it doesn't follow the natural order in our world? It's
Pokémon. So yeah. There's also the question of resemblance between the Carvanha -> Sharpedo ->
Garchomp, though it seems less likely.
