Have you figured out how to hatch eggs yet? If not, you can gather Creatu eggs by exploring the four planets (Relcore, Scria, Reiflem, and Atquati - via the Explore button up top). If you happen across an egg on one of these planets, simply click "Pick it Up", and then you'll be prompted to visit the Hatchery to incubate it. (You can otherwise get to the Hatchery by clicking the golden/orange egg near the top left of the screen.)
Once you go to your hatchery, you can incubate the egg by clicking the Incubate button under it. The amount of time for full incubation varies depending on the Creatu. You can hatch the egg before it's fully incubated, but I recommend waiting until it finishes so that you have less of a chance for the hatch to fail. All the information you could hope for regarding Creatu hatching will be available in the Hatchery, either on the main page or via the links near the top of the page (Creatu Directory, Creatu Log, etc.)
If you're a Merchant, you'll get one hatch per day. If you're a Rancher, you'll get three. Each time you hatch an egg, there's a certain chance of getting a rare-colored Creatu. These Creatu are worth more TU, and they can be sold/traded to other players. That's generally how ranchers make their living.
If you're a merchant, your main task will be selling items in your shop. You'll want to create a Merchant Shop if you haven't already, which you can do by hovering over the Shops tab at the top of the page and choosing "Merchant Shop". If you're a rancher, you can choose "Rancher Shop" instead. This is where your pets can be placed for sale.
