I've been handling things pretty okay so far. the most difficulty I'm having is probably judging the value of pets.
you guys (or anyone reading this) wouldn't have a guide for the species' prices with the various colors, would you? I've tried to just look for the averages in the search, but I get the feeling people are putting ridiculous prices on certain pets to prevent them from being sold...

Unfortunately, no such guide exists as far as I know. The best way to judge the price of a pet is to use the Creatu Search (under the "Information" tab) with the location set to "Rancher Shop" and price your pet at an equal or lower value than the lowest price. It's a lot like being a merchant!
