Tarot is a form of divination in which the reader lays out cards in "spreads" and divines meaning based on the patterns and meanings of the cards.
A tarot deck consists of the "Major Arcana" and the "Minor Arcana." The "Major Arcana" are symbolic of significant events, and the "Minor Arcana" fill in the details.
The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards. The Minor Arcana consists of 56 cards in four suits (14 cards per suit).
Not all readings are literal. Many of the cards have metaphorical meanings.
